Greene seems like a good dude but definately a mediocre RB. I see more in Powell. I hope the powers that be (whoever they are) don't decide to keep this guy just cause he barely cracked 1000 yards the past 2 years. He has little burst, well below avg. speed for a RB, poor hands and doesnt even do a great job in pass protection. I just don't see the upside of keeping him around. I hope the Jets allocate that money elsewhere. Any of you draft experts see any 2nd or 3rd round talent out there at RB that we can draft to compliment Powell and maybe McKnight?

We'll always have that run against the Bengals, and the run against the Chargers. And the run against the Pats. I truly believe that if he didn't get hurt against the Colts, we would have made the Super Bowl.

We saw Powell's potential the past few weeks, but I still like Greene. I keep him if the price isn't unrealistic. I like the tandem approach. Greene was a great 2nd half back when paired with TJ two years ago.

I agree with this. I think Greene can be cheap and a better OL (through the draft) can only make Powell and Greene better

Greene is not a bad back. But he can be replaced, especially if the line is improved

My take is the same as the beginning of the year. Greene is a closer, and Powell is the starter. If you were to chart the majority of Greene's success it was when the defense began to tire. Powell has shown more elusiveness, and tenacity.

That being said, I would let Greene walk, and draft a running back in the 3rd 4th round. The cream of the crop seems to be Gio, but he won't (most likely) make it out of the first.

    Misleading title.

I think Greene is worth keeping around if he is cheap enough; we're not likely to make a splash in FA so unless we draft a good rb, which is always a gamble, we could use Greene next year.

That's why we lose. Past 2 years we shy'd away from the run game in the 4th, if we keep running regardless of the score, no team can play us for 60 minutes. Limits turnovers, controls the clock. It's a winning formula with our defense and Rex seemed to be too influced by media with pressure to unleash Sanchez. Such a shame.

Sad fact, if Greene is not resigned, he currently sits at #10 all time on the jets rushing list. 860 more yards puts him in the top 4.

    Yeesh.

Wen your Down by two or three scores teams tend to go away from the run.

I would actually re-sign Greene, as long as it's role player money and not star money.

He's a good back to have rostered. More of a complimentary player though.
If we could actually generate leads, DB's don't want to see a guy like Greene in the second half.

I've been a Greene supporter from the get go. Yup, we all remeber those runs in the playoffs from a couple years ago...He still is a good back, at the right price!.Hope to see him back next year. With a better o line and hopefully Norv calling the plays, who knows what we mite see out of him!

The thing with Greene is that you can't really blame him for only getting 1000 yards. Our running game started off very slow this year, learning the new blocking schemes. It wasn't just on Greene. The run blocking took a while to get in sync. As you noticed, his production got better as the year went on. Our passing offense was so bad, it got to the point that we had to run regardless of them stacking the box, and still had some success with it. I think Greene should come back for cheap, I can't see us signing a premier RB this off season with the tight cap. Greene has chemistry with this line and the running game. He's a serviceable back who's highly underrated, in my opinion. Powell can compliment him with more experience and McKnight is almost there.

I like Greene as the short yardage half of a platoon, but his skill set is just too similar to Powell's to justify keeping both of them.

I think that they should let him walk, and go after a speedier back in free agency (like LaRod Stephens-Howling or Felix Jones.)

While I don't think it could fit under the cap (and there may be too much bad blood to make it work anyway,) Reggie Bush could be a great fit for us too.

He'd be a great platoon back.

    Greene is nothing special.

I would replace him with Mendelhall, Felix Jones, or Reggie Bush for a year or two until we find our stud RB in the draft.

I think it's a bit premature to be micromanaging the roster for next September. Let's at least see how the new guy gets through the draft.
