Rex is the coach now, not necessairly the future. The new GM can say I don't want Rex and if Woody likes him enough, fine Rex is gone. Rex is probably a lame duck next season anyways regardless of who fills the GM spot.
It wasn't blind loyalty to Sanchez. It was there being no real QB alternative on the roster. What was Ryan going to do? Play Tebow??? Seriously??? How would that help the franchise??? We know three things about the Jets QB situation. Sanchez is not the Jets QB of the future. Tebow is not an NFL QB. McElroy is nothing more than an NFL back up, if that. Knowing that makes the rebuild easier. Would the Jets have been better off today if Tebow played and won a game or two more? Absolutely not.
It is a media construct. Do you really think this would be back page stuff every day if this was Kansas City? Seattle? Green Bay? The foot shit is ridiculous personal stuff that got leaked was probably someone that wanted revenge on Rex for some God-awful reason. How many skeletons in each of our closets would be embarrassing if we were in the spotlight as much as the HC on any team in NY? His SB predictions are confidence in himself, his abilities, and his team. There's nothing wrong with that. Do you want to go back to the Mangini era? The hooded stealth FBI stance of Beli? I don't. I can't stand it cause its football, not the FBI. Herm was a walking sound byte that didn't even instill confidence in you as a fan. He just made you laugh. Rex should instill confidence in you. And he turned it way down this year - he didn't say one thing controversial. If you want to take the stand that this regime shouldn't be banking on 2 AFCCG appearances from 2 years ago - then fine I agree with that. But then you can't bash Rex for predicting SBs wins 2 years ago either. That's a double standard you can't live by and undermines your own argument.
No, I don't think your picking on me. lol Umm.. It's all a matter of perception though, it is hard to know exactly what perimeters that were associated with this team. None of us truly know how much say Rex puts into the offense or the adjustments in the game. No one knows how much time he spends in those offensive meetings or how involved he is in the overall offensive gameplan. If he doesn't put much input then he absolutely should, IMO. I think that he would be someone that would completely trust the OC to do his job and handle those roles all while putting in his input when he felt it was needed. That would be my perspective, how it really is, who knows? I was referring to a motivational aspect though, I think he inspires the players better than anyone else could in that organization and really makes them feel like they can do anything. I think he gets the best out of his players on both sides of the ball and I think that translated in to the 6 wins that we got because I am really surprised we managed to get even that considering the roster that was constructed (poorly constructed) for the season. That's all. The Mangini and Herm thing, I realize that but they didn't get there or come close to getting there two years in a row. That's my only point there.
Well that is faulty logic, dont you think. None of the proven GMs in this league were born proven. I would honestly want someone from a good organization that has an eye for scouting and has worked on top of the organization. Hughes for example helped the Packers find Mark Murphy. Murphy was instrumental in the Packers getting so much young talent and becoming the powerhouse it is today. I have also read that he helped hire the Seattle Gm. Look at the young talent base that they have.
True...Rex had his top 3 play makers on offense together for a total of 13 snaps for the entire season.
Also, on top of the whole "Keeping Rex will hurt the GM search". We all thought Woody wanted to keep Tanny on the Jets FO, but he reached out to potential GMs and they said no, she he let Tanny go completely.
Did you even watch last season? We were 2-0 and playing the incredibly shitty Raiders. Rex had one of his worst coaching days and we lost. Then went onto lose the next two and were 2-3. That was the turning point in the Rex regime for him and Sanchez. Cracks began to show during that stretch which eventually led to him losing the locker room. Did you just conveniently forget about that? How about his ludicrous decision to hire Sparano as OC? Not dressing McElroy as the backup with the season on the line. WTF was that??? Not giving Tebow playing time even for a few minutes at the end of games when Sanchez was awful. This is HIS roster the past two seasons. The first two were Mangini's and a bunch of free agent signings. Now, that he has to spot talent and coach his guys, things haven't been going as well. Does he have an eye for young talent? Maybe on defense, but certainly not on offense. He needs to be able to spot talent on both sides of the ball and coach the ENTIRE team, not just the defense. He's the HEAD COACH, not the defensive coordinator. HUGE difference. Also, he babied Mark Sanchez. Puts his arm around his shoulder and consoles him in the locker room after he yanked him from the game. What great NFL head coach does that?!?!?!? This isn't pee wee football. Rex is a good defensive coach because that part of the ball is about emotions and talent. He sucks on offense because it requires you to be a master tactician in addition to having talent on the field. You can't will an offense to make plays like you can on defense. But but but he did it the first two years. Yes, with Mangini players. Eventually the pregame speeches with tears flowing gets old. Offense ain't buying it when there's adversity. You need to make adjustments. Rex had no clue on offense. Why did he have Tebow come into the game when Sanchez actually made a few plays in a row? Again, WTF was that? But but but but but Sparano is the one who made those calls. Bullshit! Rex can overrule him when he sees ALL SEASON LONG that it ain't working and messes up the rhythm of the starting QB. Against Tennessee with the season on the line, Sparano has the genius idea to give Tebow the third series. With the SEASON ON THE LINE!! Where was Rex to overrule this ridiculousness. It's one thing if it worked during the season, but Tebow was an OBVIOUS disaster. Apparently the only two who didn't see was Sparano and Rex. This is a great head coach?
I'm glad we're keeping Rex, though most people here agree to can his ass, too. Did Tannabaum get fired or just demoted?
That is what I'm screaming. It's sad that we had to watch such a pathetic offense this season. I was talking to my wife yesterday about how there is not one single player on that offense that makes me excited or would make me want to go out and buy their jersey. We have nobody to be proud of at any skill position on offense. It's sad.
Conor Orr @ConorTOrr After Mike T talked to the team, the team gave him a round of applause. #nyj Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN Mike Tannebaum wrote a letter and read it to the team this morning. It was emotional, according to Darrelle Revis #nyj The above is sad to read
Mangini's "Players" that you are referring to were drafted in the top 20. Yes he has a good eye for talent, but Revis was a top 20 pick, Ferguson was a top 20 pick. Wilkerson has started to become a dominant force on defense. The Jets traded for Cromartie under his watch. The lack of talent on the roster is not the head coach's fault its the general managers fault. Would you want to take the blame at work if your boss needed you to create spreadsheet reports but did not give you the spreadsheet program. Its the same sort of thing. He was not given talent to work with this season.
Makes sense. Tannebaum's fatal error was the Sanchez contract. Most other things you can make up for but this could set our team back years. And lol at people still being butthurt that Ryan is staying. Disliking a man's personality isn't a good enough reason to fire him and I bet any GM on the market would be happy keeping Rex.... but no.. all these coach couches and GMs on here know way more than Rex about football or what's going on inside the locker room.
Just stating a fact. Whether you like Pete Carroll or whether he is a good coach or not is not the point. The point is Pete carroll has final say over all moves in Seattle.
