Rex is not a great head coach but keeping him doesn't hurt a GM search.

Rex allows a GM to come in and focus on the offensive side of the ball. Rex is a great defensive coach and keeps the media entertained, which, in New York, is a valuable talent.

The new new GM can have an immediate impact by bringing in a new OC and focusing on the offensive side of the ball. He has a completely free pass year one because of Rex and can groom his OC to replace Rex if he wants his own guy.

Sanchez will be no where near the starting position next year. They will aggressively work to get him off the roster. The only reason he stays is if they can't paper over the additional 4.8 million hit they take if he is cut. In that case, I'd be surprised to even see him dress next year. Rex has to get as far away from Sanchez as possible next year.

Really? It didn't have to do with guaranteeing Super Bowls and failing, videotaping other men sniffing and kissing his wife's feet and making other personal ads for dudes to plow his wife? It didn't have to do with announcing the Jets had been eliminated from the playoffs when they hadn't? Acting like an unprofessional loud mouth on Hard Knocks? Losing the locker room last season, stating the Giants are the Jets little brother then getting absolutely dismantled and eliminated from the playoffs by them? Constant sophomoric pot shots at his man love Tom Brady? etc...

Face it Rex brought a TON of this on himself, Herm and Mangini never got this level of polarization.

Tebow proved to the naysayers last year he could get the team to the playoffs and win. Rex didn't even give him a shot. Whether it was pride or loyalty, Rex fucked up big time. To reward him by leaving him as the HC is a joke. He is a brilliant DC, but he has not moved the Offense forward in 4 years. Remember the BYE week? he let the players have 7 days off instead of working a offense tailored to Tebow to make a run. He just gave them a vacation!!!

Rex is a players coach to the point of absurdity.

The Broncos completely altered their offense just for Tebow to be successful with his skill set. Doing that here would have done more harm than good. Rex realized that, he realized the last thing we need is to play a QB that isn't the long term answer who also has a huge following behind him which would have made things even worse in the sense of change during the offseason.

It would have been a really bad decision. They never should have brought him here and it was evident that Rex didn't want him here.

Who is to say that the Jets don't get a good GM and tells Rex to pipe down and sets a standard of professionalism that all of his staff have to follow? Who is to say that a good GM won't come here, hires a good OC and establishes a plan that all have to follow come draft day?

MT was a problem because he obviously did not have vision on how to build a roster through the daft and it came back to bite him. I think that Rex being on board will not be a bad thing if the GM is a strong individual who sets the standard for everyone.

Who gives a fuck about the SB predictions that he has proposed in the past, I like a HC that is confident. That was made to be a much bigger deal then it should have been.

The rest of it doesn't matter either, the media blew all of that up way more than it should have been. Which is the point, NY media blows everything up to a ridiculous level.

None of that has anything to do with talents he has as a coach. He is a different breed, sure, but he hasn't done anything horrible to deserve being fired.

Also... Herm and Mangini never got us close to an AFC title game, let alone two in a row.

I want a team that will consistently be in the playoffs and will be a force to reckon with, Rex has all the capabilities of bringing that kind of team to life. He is working with an over the hill roster and no talent on offense. You can't blame the guy for the shortcomings we've had the past two years when our GM consistently neglected major holes on this team, with no depth behind it.

He got the best out of the scrubs that were playing on offense for this team this year. Obviously it was atrocious but he did the best he could to get his team to play every game.

Just look at the guys that were playing this year..

The guy didn't have shit to work with.

Rex isn't going to pipe down, they know that for him to be at his best he has to be himself. I don't see a problem with him being a loud mouth coach that speaks his mind. I like it and I wish he would get back to being his brash hard nosed self like he was the first two years of being here.

Then again it is hard to be that when you know your roster is full of jags, especially at a lot of the skill positions.

Can you just one time read a statement, then read what was quoted and reply appropriately? I've spelled out two huge issues you had with reading comprehension within two minutes from each other on the other thread. Then you go on with this rant?

I quoted a guy who stated that Rex being a polarizing figure was just a NY media construct, I then gave examples of how Rex brings this on himself. I brought up Herm and Mangini ONLY to show that they never received the level of media attention Rex does, not to say anything about two title games or firing Rex.

I mean seriously, slow down, read, comprehend what was written and in its proper context, then respond.

This will narrow the field for top notch GMs IMO.

The Jets hired Jed Hughes who has not gone after big names. He is hired as someone who will go after a young up and coming guy. Do you really think some of them are going to turn down a job? Especially with the ability to hire a coach next season if the Jets do not make the playoffs and Rex is canned?

Please remember these are only the first changes announced and we expected this move. I agree that a GM needs control of all aspects of personnel including the coaching staff. Sure, Rex is now on a short leash for one more season, but that doesn't necessarily mean Woody will bring in somebody Rex doesn't get along with. I think Woody will go with someone willing to work with Rex until it's proven that the new GM and Rex are not on the same page. This indicates that Sanchez is staying, too. Woody wants to keep the Rex-Sanchez tandem going. The next question is: Does the new GM make the coaching changes needed to turn Mark around and get the offense going in the right direction. You already know there will be a new DC, so the coaching puzzle pieces must fit cohesively. The new GM will have to be in place quickly in order to make the roster moves needed for next season. Let's hope Woody chooses wisely.

He had crap to work with, but he absolutely did not get the best out of it. Getting the best out if it would have involved putting Sanchez back onto his red-amber-green plan from his rookie year to limit mistakes. Borrowing from Herm Edwards' 'any drive that ends with a kick is okay' plan would have been better than trying to run a regular passing attack with Sanchez and his no-name receivers.

He could have insisted on some sort of max-protect scheme to give Sanchez a little more time, then hammer into Sanchez that he needed to throw the ball away if there was noone open - just anything instead of the old drop-back-and-heave-it-up routine that Sanchez slipped into.

Ryan did nothing for the offense at all, he just let Sparano do whatever he wanted. Sparano is (was) the OC, but Ryan needed to step in when it was obvious things were not working and that Sanchez was in full-on melt-down mode.

And with regards to another of your posts (not that I want to sound like I'm picking on you, because I'm not, just disagreeing on two points!) Herm had the Jets within a field goal of the AFC championship game twice in the same game.

The things I am talking about are still relevent to the topic at hand. Fozzi who you quoted was referring to things in association with Rex and his coaching abilities and how they go hand in hand with the New GM's evaluation of Rex.

The first part of my post was all about the polarizing label, which was exactly on point. Then I went on to my views, which I felt was the direction that I wanted to go at that point.

Just because I don't line up exactly with you, doesn't mean It's not relevent. So, instead of constantly trying to correct me, how about you stay on topic? Mkay?

Fine, if you just want any young guy that is willing to take the job, then this is the perfect scenario.
