The most important move for the Jets this offseason is to hire a GM who gives the Jets instant credibility. A person who has a proven track record of building franchises and is a shrewd evaluator of talent. Someone like Polian. Woody needs to be willing to give the new GM absolutely FULL control of the franchise- including canning Rex if this is what the GM feels is in the best interest of the franchise. The second most important move this offseason is for the Jets organization to tell Mark Sanchez that he will under no circumstances be the starting QB for this team in 2013. Perhaps under these circumstances, Sanchez would rather accept a buyout of his contract than to rot on the bench, given that he seems to think of himself as an unquestioned starting QB despite ALL evidence to the contrary.
From my point of view, it doesn't matter. Let him start Tebow, let him start McElroy, let him cut McElroy and bring in someone who is semi-retired. He accomplished two things by so stubbornly sticking with Sanchez: he destroyed the team's chances to make the playoffs in a season where the second half schedule was extremely favorable, and he essentially ruined Sanchez's career by not giving him some time to recoup. Not only the above, add to it that he wasn't fair to the other guys in the team, most particularly the defense, who may not have wanted to sacrifice a year for Sanchez's sanity.
No, they really haven't. Go look at the snap counts on defense. you're going to find 4-2-5 written all over them. The Jets have lined up with the 3rd CB or S much more often than with the 3rd LB.

BS there were locker room divisions before Tebow got here. Besides, if your backup QB can divide a team so badly without fucking even playing, your culture sucks. That's coaching.
Was listening to LeGreca on Fri on my way home. He was making point that Rex will not be fired because of his loyalty to Woody. LeGreca read a twit from one of the listeners who challenged him with what have been discussed here numerous times: Rex has to be fired because of his complete ineptitude in managing QB situation. Specifically: Why was Tebow dressed as QB-2 and not used when it was obvious that Sanchez is falling apart? Why McElroy wasn't QB-2 and why Tebow wasn't allowed to play. The answer to the 2nd part was obvious: Rex never believed in Tebow. The answer to why Tebow then was QB2 was very interesting. According to LeGreca, who admitted it's just an intelligent guess on his part, Tebow was backup QB because that was in his contract. When Jax and NYJ were the 2 options, Jax's deal was that if Tebow comes, he would be openly competing for the 2nd QB slot. The Jets sealed the deal with Tebow by contractually obligating themselves to dress TT as QB2 so long as he is not injured. If this is true, it'd explain most, if not all, puzzling QB decisions by Rex. If you consider that TT's signing was all WJ's doing and that Rex never put the owner on the spot, but took the blame himself... I highly doubt that under this circumstances Woody will not give Ryan another year.
Rex has no credibility left, even with his own fans. So yeah, who cares anymore what he says it's meaningless
I think the entire FO/CS needs an enema. Flush them down the toilet. Including Rex, who jumped the shark last year and shot his wad two years ago. He's just not HC material and I don't expect him to learn a la Belichick.
It doesn't make sense. How can you hire a new GM, a process which ultimately is the search for stability, but preface the discussions with we may need a new coach next year. The only GM who would do this is an inside guy.
Hypothetically, You tell a GM you know it's going to take a while to rebuild, you tell the GM that REx is here one more year and if next year is bad, Rex is the fall guy, the GM is safe and you get your pick of coach, is it really not that enticing of a job?
First, most of the thread discusses merits of firing HC, something any fan would care about. Second, just taking tour comment at face value, how many Jets fans have you spoken to to be able to assess that Rex has no credibility "even with his own fans"?
It's not that bad of a deal for a GM right? They have a free year to do whatever they want. They can even tank if they want. I don't think it's as constricting as everyone makes it out ot be
I think the issue will be this.. Everyone in the league has seen how New York media treats the jets. No less it's own fan base. A few people mentioned this... How many people are really going to want to come here? I am a fan of Rex, but not enough to not see the flaws. In the same breath we have a still learning head coach who we are going to let go for yet another new head coach I'm willing to bet. Everyone cries for a coach to be with this team for a long time... Not every year is going to end well. Shit if winning the SB was that easy there would not be teams in this league who have not won any. We should consider that no matter what the jets have done. Since Parcels left the jets how many "reputable" coaches have wanted to or been in the running to coach this team? I don't remember any report of a coach with any note worthy name being in the running. Do you really think we didn't put calls in to Shannihan, Cohwer, etc. I think the best we can hope for is a diamond in the rough and maybe we get someone who mixes the right chemistry and gets this team a winner. But at the end of the day...It's still just a game we watch.
They won't hire that type of GM, They are gonna hire someone with no experience who was the manager of a footlocker
