The Jets do not have the personnel to run a 4-3 base defense. They have no RE to rush the passer. Their linebackers are big and slow. At a minimum the Jets would need to draft a pass-rushing RE and an MLB to run the 4-3.
Dude... I think you, obviously, gawda give them credit. I think there's no doubt. There's absolutely no doubt that's how I feel. Obviously, we played one helluva team today. Without question.
Patriot Homer just said on Football Night in America his sources say Rex will be back but Sparano AND Pettine will be gone.
Quinton Coples or Wilkerson and Demario Davis? The Jets actually have better personell to run the 4 - 3 than the 3 - 4. Not to mention they already run the 4-3 plenty.
Exactly. Firing Ryan tomorrow would be idiotic; you let the new GM (assuming there will be a new GM) make that decision.
I hate the Patriot Homer but this one is more than likely dead on. Though its hardly a scoop, most of us on here could have predicted that without "sources"
I do not understand why anyone would want to see Rex fired - who the hell else would have got even 6 wins with the QB and WR/RB options available to the Jets?
i'm not ON the fire Rex bandwagon, but I wouldn't be opposed. There are plenty of valid reasons to fire Rex. 1) His QB decisions 2) His lack of offensive understanding 3) His proclamations and negative press 4) His handling of the locker room Lots of valid reasons to fire him.
They don't run the 4-3, they run a 46 and a fair amount of 4-2-5. Both of those defenses do something different than what the 4-3 does. Coples is not a good fit in the 3-4. That's the main reason he got as few snaps as he did. The Jets only used him regularly in the 46 with some 4-2-5 and 3-4 mixed in. He's a tweener. He's too small to be a good 3-4 DE and he's too big to play standing up as an OLB where he will have coverage responsibilities also. The only way the Jets can realistically run a 4-3 next season is if they keep Calvin Pace somehow (very unlikely) and he can play RE in the 4-3. They'd also need to have DeMario Davis capable of playing MLB so David Harris could shift outside where his lack of speed won't hurt as much.
Rex caused us to lose 9 games by starting Sanchez. 1game by starting McElroy over Tebow. So to keep the saboteur of our season as HC makes no sense.
He didn't even deny his assertion of the conversation being off the record. He sidestepped it. I don't know if Rex is going to get fired or even if I want it yet, but it's no longer the impossibility it was a few weeks ago. You could fire him and justify it, with everything that's gone on.
1. who else should he have played? Tebow is worse and McElroy looks not much better. 2. All we need is a half competent OC 3. In the past. (edit: the proclamations - the negative press is always going to be there until the Jets win a SB) 4. The apparent drama in the locker room (of which there has been relatively little this year) is an equal mix of the tebow effect and the fact we are a losing team sitting in the NY media market. Give Rex a half decent QB and OC and we would be in the playoffs - simple as that.
I think Q can be a good 3-4 end since he's done pretty well against the run but there's no doubt his natural position is a 4-3 end. Mo would be very good as a 4-3 tackle but we would need another 4-3 end. Pace at this point is too old and hasn't ever done much of anything in his time as a 4-3 end any way. Maybe sign a guy like Avril? but we don't have much cap money so don't know how that would happen.
After going back to Sanchez yet again, I hope he is giving his goodbye speech tomorrow. He lost this team a year ago and never had control this season. He is as overrated as a HC as Sanchez is a starting QB. Let them leave together.
All u guys keep saying that a new GM bring in his own stuff which is true, but they also come in and stay with the same HC for a year.
McElroy was injured and Tebow is 100% gone - who should he have started if not the guy that IS (sadly) going to be our back-up next season?
