It makes NO SENSE to put huge dollars into any pass catching option (Keller, Tone, etc) if you can't throw the ball. Grabbing Hill in the 2nd round was about right for a G&P team with no QB.
Considering he's missed almost like a year's worth of time due to injuries, he actually owes the Jets some time if he's talking about honoring an agreement/contract..... Don't know what the hell he's babbling about.
He's been the only consistent target because whenever Sanchez panics and a play breaks down(almost every play for Sanchez) he looks for the tight end. Keller is not totally worthless, he is a decent receiving tight end, but it's simply laughable to compare him to Aaron Hernandez. Hernandez can block, doesn't get injured when breathed on, and doesn't go down as soon as he is touched by a defender.
So many people here just crack me up. When was Keller hurt before this year? Doesn't matter team has never been able to fully utilize him based on offensive struggles and he is now a luxury the team can't afford. Plenty of teams will be more than interested. Market will be somewhere between Greg Olsen's 5 year/25m and 6 year/36m top of market number before Gronk/Hernandez deals.
^Exactly. He is a middle of the pack statistical TE with mediocre blocking skills. Let him get his long term deal elsewhere.
I like Fred Davis a lot but he's coming off a torn Achilles tendon. More than 1/3 of players never play again after that kind of injury and most of those who do are never the same. It would be a risky move but Keller hasn't exactly been Cal Ripkin out there either to say the least. http://lowerextremityreview.com/article/return-to-football-after-achilles-tendon-rupture His mediocre stats have more to do with having a shitty quarterback than anything else.
I feel really bad for a guy that might have to take home 5 million dollars next year. If I only had these problems
I don't buy it. He was never a game breaker although I will say he is sure handed and runs good routes. Nothing special.
It would be overpriced tag for an injury prone TE like Keller. I do not like paying for players chilling on a hospital bed.
Hernandez is a mediocre blocker and is quite injury prone. He's also had issues with dropping the ball this year when he actually makes it onto the field.
While I don't think Mark will do much elsewhere I do see Dusty playing very well over the next few years. I hope the team does try to resign him. We have too many holes to fill already and adding TE to the list is not something I want to see.
I actually agree with you. All I'm saying is don't read into the stats too much. Vernon Davis has shitty stats but bet your ass if he had Brees or Brady throwing to him he'd probably go down as the best TE of all time. That said, I say keep Keller if the price is right. And that price tag is a nothing special price not a pro bowl price.
He started the year talking Pro Bowl. for what reason? His stats have never met his talent. But of course, we know this Jets team bases everything on how a guy looks in practice, so I wouldn't be surprised to see this joker franchised and then get $10M per in 2015.
I probably wouldn't pay him between $5 and $6 million per year. If he came cheaper I'd consider, but it doesn't sound like he will... Keep Cumberland and draft a good pass-catching TE in the mid rounds.
I think Keller is a big deal for your offense...dont know about the cap but loseing this guy will really hurt your offense. If you have to bring Sanchez back Keller is a must sign.
