I'd say the four playoff games they won were pretty big games and they came out big for.

I want Tannenbaum gone. I think a potentially lame duck GM is more dangerous to a team than a lame duck HC. Bring in a GM like Tom Heckert, bring in an OC like Norv and go from there.

There are no total rebuild jobs in the NFL anymore. Typically almost half of playoff teams didn't make the playoffs last year. This team has holes but also some talent.

Ok, I'll give you the first Cincinnati game - they were ready. The San Diego game? Came out ready? They scored twice in the 4th quarter, before that they had 7 points and the kicker on SD missed a couple of FGs. That's coming out ready? Again, I'm not talking about the finish - if the Jets are still in the game in the 3rd and 4th quarter, they've managed to get things done (except this year).

You're missing the point most of us are trying to make. We can all agree Sanchez stinks--it's the COACH who decides WHO PLAYS week after week--Rex's CONSTANT chirping that "Mark gives us the best chance to win," "I feel GREAT about Mark starting at the Titans (with the season on the line)" is the main reason he should be fired--NO OTHER coach would show such BLIND LOYALTY to a loser like 'ol butt fumble than Rex. Did you even WATCH Sanchez's performance in the Titans game (and the last 2 years)? You keep Rex Ryan and I guarantee you the entire offseason Rex will be talking up Sanchez on how it was Sporano's fault, a new OC will make Sanchez, better, give my man Mark ONE more chance, etc. You keep Rex Ryan for another year and your married to Mark Sanchez next year too and all he brings as well--Sanchez is the worst QB in the NFL and everyone save Rex Ryan can see that.

Injuries is the difference in most NFL seasons period followed by QB play. The Jets got hit hard by the injury bug and had sub par QB play.

This has been the best coaching job Rex has done since he has been a Jets coach. He has done more with less than any coach in the NFL this season. Don't fall into the hate Rex crowd because he does not act like Belicheat.

This is the crap that kills me. Rex supports his QB and he is a horrible coach.

Did ever think Sanchez gave the team the best chance to win? Was it Rex that got rid of Drew Stanton? No, his hands were tide he had Tebow, Mcelroy and Sanchez and Sanchez gave them them the best chance to win.

Stanton was on the roster he would have been starting when Mark lost all confidence.

What evidence do you have that suggests it was lack of preparation, rather than lack of talent / execution and poor QB play? Blaming the head coach rather than offensive coaching staff for the piss poor offense is ludicrous. Again, you have to look at the defense. They don't usually come out flat. They play very well, consistently. If it's a HC issue, you'd see the "flatness" on both sides of the ball. You don't. Case in point.

But Mark DOES give us the best chance to win. McElroy looked just as bad, if not worse last game. That demonstrates that the problem is deeper. Do you honestly believe McElroy would have lit up the Seahawks if we benched him earlier? It probably would have been just as ugly. Rex proved that he was right. What, did you really expect Rex to come forward and be like, "well Sanchez sucks, I have no confidence in him today, but we're stuck with him because McElroy is injured."? Of course not. Of course Rex sees it, he benched him, did he not? Rex always defends his players to the media. That's the kind of guy he is. He tries to put pressure on himself to take it off his players and all of you guys are falling right into that trap calling for his head, when he's done a decent job considering the circumstances. Being the best QB on the Jets, doesn't mean he's great. It just means he's better than Tebow and McElroy, that's all. We are married to Sanchez because of Tanny's absurd contract, not because of Rex. If Sanchez is planned to be the starter for the next few years, a good coach knows to let him get as many snaps as possible in the new system with the new players to develop chemistry. You don't just bench him halfway through the season. I feel that the plan has changed now, hence they are shopping Sanchez at the end and he has been benched, despite the guaranteed money. He's played terrible, don't get me wrong, but it's not completely his fault. Cavanaugh failed to develop him well and Sparano sucked at making a system that could work for him. They are to blame, not Rex.

I respect your opinion but there's a big difference between "supporting your QB" and PLAYING a guy all year (the last 2 years) WHO STINKS. Sanchez engineered 0 TDs the entire exhibition season--for most coaches that would have been enough. After Sanchez's terrible year, his butt fumble and McElroy saving the jets v. Arizona, how /why did Rex start Sanchez against the Titans????????? By the way, did you see his 4 int and his fumble at the end of the Titans game? Blind loyalty to rotten players should get Rex fired, not "merely "supporting his (loser) QB." You keep Rex on for next year and all offseason he'll be talking up his boy Sanchez--It wasn't Mark's fault, it was Sporano's fault, give Mark some time with a new OC, Mark (really, really) gives us the best chance to win, etc. Keep Rex and you're married to watching ol' butt fumble next year and the jets remaining the league's laughingstock.

I respect your opinion. However, without a doubt I would have started McElroy or Tebow against the Titans with the season on the line, not Sanchez--especially after McElroy's performance v. Arizona ( and Sanchez's v. nearly every other team including his 0 TDs in the entire exhibition season). The coach decides who plays. L. Tomlinson is on record as stating that he was "shocked" that Rex started Sanchez that key game v. Titans, and I totally agreed with L.T. I hope you're right that they are shopping Sanchez.

So the reality is you hate Sanchez and were ready to dumb him going into his fourth season after the Jets just extended his contract. Sanchez had a tough year and struggled with turnovers but he is still the best QB on the Jets roster. Fans like you did not help the guy survive in NY.

If your argument was Rex was responsible for the development of fifth over all QB and developed him horribly he deserves to be fired makes a lot more sense than the illogical argument you are making.

Did you ever like Sanchez or did hate him from day 1?

Fans like me (and most of the rest of the world) "did not help the guy survive in NY?" You mean like when you was posing/smiling for GQ, pepsi, and all the other sponsors? You're right, Mark Sanchez is a victim. If the rest of us had only adopted Rex's mindset that we all should feel "great" about Sanchez under center, if we had JUST joined in on his chorus that "Mark gives us the best chance to win" then Mark would have the pro bowl. It's not Rex and Sanchez, it's our fault. Like I said, I respect your opinion, but a coach who continues to play guys who stink for 2 years now (we're way past the 2 champ games) should bear some responsibility-- Rex waited WAY too long--You don't wait until AFTER your team is eliminated from the playoffs to FINALLY make a change--Any other coach would have made the needed move a LOT sooner--that's the point. And if you keep Rex you keep Sanchez for next year--I hope I'm wrong , but I've seen enough of Sanchez and I'm tired of getting laughed at when I tell people I like the jets.Feel free to respond--you can have the last word.

Again, I clearly said that Tanny's contract is why they stuck with Sanchez as long as they did. If he was done after this year, they probably would have done exactly that but the decision made sense at the time since the original plan was to keep him for 2013. It's easy to put yourself in Rex's shoes and say things in hindsight, but you need to understand that Rex is the one who practices with the guys and meets with the assistant coaches. He knows better than you or any other fan on this site about which QB gives us the best chance to win. The problem isn't the usage of Sanchez, it's the development of Sanchez, which points squarely on Cavanaugh.

I’ve not read every answer to every thread to every rant about the state of the Jets and what needs to be done. I just wanted to weigh in & these are my sole views on what needs to happen. I also provide the disclaimer that I am not a “well educated x’s & o’s guy”. I’m also no cap expert, nor a talent evaluator. What I am is a passionate Jet fan who wants to see our team get out of the “laughing stock of the NFL” spotlight, and get back to playing competitive football. As well, I believe politics, variables and unknowns (I mean, none of us work at Jets HQ do we?) are also part of the calamity.

Starting at the very top we have an owner whose only goal is to put asses in the seats and collecting his revenue. It seems that his strategy (IMHO) is that if a good product is put on the field, than he makes money and the fans will be satisfied. Well the problem with that theory is that it’s not good enough for the fan base; it goes even further by insulting our intelligence. The only goal is to win the Super Bowl. Flat & simple, nothing less will suffice. It is the only reason every team in the league prepares, and executes a campaign every year. An owner, who wants only to make money, sees a Super Bowl title as icing on the cake, rather than the goal. Unfortunately, Leon Hess is gone and we will probably never have an owner who loved his team as much as he, again.

Mr. Tannenbaum should be gone, simple as that. I mean I just can’t see the value of keeping him, and I can’t believe that he was ever an “integral” part of any success we had. I believe that we need a general manager who has a vision, a creative flair for a new brand of football that says “we are about building a strong deep team with depth at skilled positions through the draft”. These prima donna players and their stacked contracts and guaranteed money leave no incentive or hunger for the athletes to perform. They get rich and they have a job, and that’s it.

Mike Pettine, Tony Sporano, and sadly, Rex Ryan should also go. Simply put, Pettine is useless, Sporano ditto, and Ryan just doesn’t have the cut throat mentality to make obvious and necessary personnel changes. I say sadly because Ryan’s faithfulness to his players is an admirable trait. I also still admire his defensive prowess & halftime adjustments. It’s just not a trait that serves an NFL Coach very well.

So, what are the answers? Woody goes nowhere so the best thing is that we are blessed with a solid general manager to bring in the people that are skilled, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and committed to righting the ship. It’s been done before; it can be done again…

Everything this Barcs guy is saying is spot-on and should be ready by everyone here. Happy to see a Jets fan who doesn't succumb to knee jerk reactions like half this board does.

The Jets could be 1-15 and Barcs would tell you the team is headed in the right direction. He is a blind "Sunshiner" through and through".

Dude, Mark Sanchez was the best option, he did give us the best chance to win. Did you see McElroy last week? Not that impressive. We traded away our true backup for fucking Tebow! Do you think it is apparent enough that Rex did NOT want Tebow?

McElroy was not that impressive considering it was his first start. Our problem is the fact that Mark Sanchez could barely touch Eli Manning's 'average' season this year.

He's the head coach of the team my man! He's responsible for everything that goes on below him, period, end of story. If the coaches that are working FOR HIM don't get the job done, then he's not getting the job done.

And the defense doesn't exactly come out strong most of the time either. It comes out strong more often than the offense, but this defense is somewhat overrated based on stats. But the reality is they tackle poorly, lack speed, don't defend the run or the short pass well and give up a lot of big 3rd downs.

You're absolving the head coach of all blame and that's as bad as blaming him for everything.

It's not knee jerk when you've got a guy who is in his 4th year, has the team headed in the wrong direction, doesn't have control of his players, his coaches or his own mouth, has turned the team into a laughing stock that other teams love to beat because of the way he, and his players by extension, run their mouths, and a guy who rode a talented QB into the ground by never once benching him until he practically had no choice, and then rode further into the ground right after that.

Guys that do all of those things don't deserve to keep a job. He may be a good head coach some day, but like Sanchez, he needs a blow. Let him take a few years, he can come back and win someone else a Super Bowl. But it won't happen here. You don't learn how to do all of the above in reverse while on the job.
