I could be wrong and that's absolutely fine here, but I believe a player must first have a role specified before they can expand his role. Vlad is dumb as shit, the football IQ just isn't there, and you're going to make him learn 3 positions? It's a waste of time IMO. Let him get one defined position first then expand his role. I love versatile offensive lineman, Rob Turner and Wayne Hunter were great at that role and helped us break a lot of big runs. We don't have that type of player on the roster. Jason Smith won't be back next year. Slauson or Vlad need to get demoted and have that as their role on this football team. The running game wasn't nearly as effective until it was too late. We need to start the season running the football strong and ending the season running the football strong. That's been a big issue the last two seasons as well. Offensive line has become a strong need in this draft. I don't think Slauson is THAT good due to him not being a good puller when it comes to Power O plays. Vlad is a beast in that department and well Brandon Moore is old as shit. The value for Slauson is great though - can't dispute that, I guess we can thank Bill Callahan, not Mike Tannebaum for that. I like Austin Howard, I think he's gotten smarter football wise as the year went on. By default he should be our starter at RT. LG / RG have me very worried. We need a true evaluator of talent. Tannebaum I feel just goes around and asks people for their opinions and bases it off that.
Packers have sick depth.... It's not like Tone is Megatron or something... Packers could have lost their next best WR and another top guy on D and STILL been in it. Next thing, you'll probably pull out the ole "I have more posts than you" routine....
LOL.. Everyone stop for a sec and imagine what scenario on this Jets team it would take junc to say "WHOA MAN THESE GUY SCREWED UP WE NEED CHANGE" One of the biggest laughingstock seasons in NFL history and he's got all the answers STILL.... Pretty entertaining.
Yes, trolls have a lot of free time and live on the internet. Mock my post count if you'd like. I am a long time season ticket holder (Sec 135) and attend 6 to 8 games a year, despite having a > 2 hour commute each way to the Meadowlands. Been a Jets' fan since the late '60s and despite the franchise's struggles I have managed to spawn a new generation of Jet fans with 2 of my 3 kids. Will compete my NFL/Jet knowledge base with any and all fans and won't take a back seat to too many in that regard. Perhaps I've mis-branded you as a troll (if so I apologize) but the reality is that anyone who is sincerely defending Sanchez and Tannenbaum possess a well-below body temperature football IQ. So carry on, message boards thrive on traffic.
Like I said in another thread, stability for the sake of stability is not smart. Everyone is quick to point out Bill Cowher and the Steelers. I don't think "after a long time he figured it out and won" is a good argument for keeping someone on. Look at the Packers and Seahawks after they brought in new, talented guys.
we didn't just lose Santonio though, we lost Holmes and keller- the 2 best weapons in our pass O. we also lost hill for numerous games. we didn't have tremendou depth to begin w/ but when you lose your 2 best players as far as pass O goes that's tough. GB didn't go through that. 6-10 or 7-9 is one of the biggest laughinstock seasons in NFL history? seriously? are you new to this game? I'm not an average fan like you, I don't want change for the sake of change. 2 years ago we were 6 pts away from the Super Bowl. Good organizations have stability, we change HC/GM every few years and people wonder why we can't get over the hump. I don't care about your post count or if you have season tickets but don't come on our board and bash posters who contribute. You are only active when the team stinks, that's more trollish than what others are doing. You can bash me or anyone else all you like but backing your method we go back into the cycle of new HC/GM/QB every few years which hasn't gotten us to a SB. Mike Tannenbaum built a roster that has the most playoff wins since 2009, Mark sanchez helped 2 teams get to title games in 4 years(you don't win consistently w/ poor QB play), rex Ryan has the most playoff wins since taking over and the most in jets history. yes we were horrible this year and yes those guys all deserve blame but that doesn't mean you clean house. Should Pitt clean house after missing their 2nd postseason in 4 years? should the Gints after missing for the 3rd time in 4 years? It's silly, it's common fan thinking. be better than the average fan.
look at the packers. Mike Sherman was there SIX seasons and won 2 playoff games before they replaced him w/ Mike McCarthy. 6 seasons is enough to evaluate. McCarthy through 4 seasons had 2 postseason apps and 1 postseason win, using your flawed logic they should have fired him after their 6-10 season in 2008. In Seattle they fired Mora quickly. Ok but Mora was 5-11 and he didn't have any success in Seattle. They could have fired Pete Carroll after a 2nd consecutive losing season last year, that's what you guys would have done- that's what the jets did in 1994 firing a young Pete after 1 season.
after glancing the thread title I thought it said "Woody may replace Tannebaum" a la Jerry Jones in Dallas and I thought... I'd take it.
Woody needs to move fast I have no confidence in Woody making football decisions, he's gonna make decisions based on keeping STH's and selling PSL's. Well, looks like we have to move fast if we are to replace GM and or coach. See slideshow for coaches http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...e-coaches-under-pressure-after-week-16/page/2 GM's: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000103813/article/five-nfl-teams-might-be-looking-for-new-gms With the NFL season winding down, the names on the coaching hot seat receive a lot of attention. Just as many general managers could be looking for work. NFL.com's Albert Breer reported Friday on NFL Network's "Around the League" that at least three teams other than the Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns have started the process of looking for GM candidates. Carolina already has fired general manager Marty Hurney, and it's assumed Cleveland will make a change at the end of the season. But Breer's report indicates at least three other teams that still have GMs in place already have started to look for candidates. That means a minimum of five openings will be available. The Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers and New York Jets would be logical candidates as other teams that could look to make a change. There will be a lot of competition for the vacant GM and coaching jobs this offseason, with plenty of openings. The teams that are most prepared to move quickly will be rewarded.
I'm at the point now where I have absolutely no faith in Woody's ability to bring the right people in. I really wish he could bring in a competent GM, who then would bring in his own scouts/talent evaluators and coaching staff. The Jets can't possibly get the circus stink off this franchise fast enough. I want to be going towards the SB, not further away from it.
What makes you think our owner is capable of evaluating and picking a better GM who will pick a better HC? Chances are Woody could very well pick someone worse as easily as someone better. Before we got Parcells, Hess picked Kottite. In order to get Parcells he had to raid another teams successful management team and he did some very questionable moves to get that to happen. Which successful team do you think Woody is capable of raiding without the league stepping in? Since that's very unlikely we are essentially leaving it up to chance that Woody can interview the retreads and pick someone better then he already picked. I'm okay with taking the coin flip chance but I recognize it may not solve anything and it could just as easily be worse as be better.
I don't know what that has to do with anything? I've been here since 2004 hmy: and up until about a month ago, I only had like 30 posts.
Its the New York state of mind that is the downfall of this franchise. Fire everybody!!! We're sick. Then we wonder why this team hasn't won a superbowl in 40 years. Because we love to fire people! Rex has a vision for this team, and the last two years we've gotten away from it. It's clear we do not need an explosive offense to win, we just need one that doesn't give the game away.
The ownership (or ownershit if you will) needs to say screw the fans and their win now we wont wait attitude and worry about building a winner. A lasting winner. Screw NYC and their impatient asses. Think they will be complaining if the Jets were built into an every year contender? We need an OC who can handle everything on that side of the ball without Rex's involvement. (Norv could do it as could Tom Moore). We Need a GM who has played the game (ie: Elway in denver) jesus christ I'd take Namath at GM at this point!! I doubt though....sadly....that Mr. "Win it now Woody" wil ever stop worrying about besting the NYG in headlines long enough to do anything other than sign a shirt tail free agent loaded roster that looks good on paper to try and win a quick one.
Unless you are also kaboom why did you reply? You make my point, been here for a long time but didnt' start posting until we sucked. Taht sounds trollish, right?
I don't think there's a set number of seasons that it takes to evaluate a coach. After 6 seasons, it didn't work. Does that mean the franchise would've been worse off if it fired Sherman two years earlier? I'm a Rex supporter but the overall culture and general dysfunction throughout the locker room at this point I think outweighs the playoff runs in his first two years.
after 4 seasons Sherman's teams could never even get to a title game despite having an eltie QB in the prime of his career. Wouldn't you agree the circumstances are very different for Rex?
He's not a troll, he just lacks the critical thinking skills to understand objective reality. Like most other Sanchez supporters, it isn't his fault. Just drop a few coins in his cup next time you are outside the supermarket.
