I don't think he was ever promised to start but I'm sure he was lead to believe that if Sanchez struggled his # would be called, especially since he was listed as the " back up QB" and McElroy never even dressed for a game. The kid was a pawn in Woody Johnson's PSL selling master plan and his career has suffered for it. This organization is pathetic.
What makes you think everything the Jets said publicly (to protect Sanchez) was what they told Tim privately? Especially when they DID say publicly Tebow could get up to 20 plays a game and he's never approached that. Not to mention they put the '#3 QB' ahead of him when push came to shove.
I don't know if there is a place for tebow as an NFL QB and I have my doubts, but... All the guy did was what he was asked. he bulked up to play special teams and the wildcat package. He was nothing but encouraging to Sanchez by all accounts and never made any comments to harm the team. Rex fucked him over by first, not ever replacing Sanchez when Tebow was the backup, then just jumping over him to the 3rd string QB even when the playoffs were out of reach. The reason of course is that they want no chance that tebow might have some success and they'd look even stupider than they already look over this. Then, because they are getting called out for the dispicable way they have treated the man, they leak out some bullshit about him being insubordinate so they can assassinate his character. Rex should be thoroughly ashamed of himself IMO!
There is a huge difference between being the fan of a team and being a fan of one player, particularly when it comes to football. Jets fans root for the laundry - the 53 players that make up that team. That is what 99.99999% of football fans do. You and the other Tebow followers root for one player, even though he may not even play and then somehow root for the team that player plays for, unless and until your boy doesn't get the playing time you feel he deserves. I am a lacrosse coach and your rooting interest is equivalent to that of a parent of a player on the team. You root for your son (Tebow), are happy as long as he is playing as much as you think he should, root for the team when your son (Tebow) is a starter or plays regularly, and root against the team and the coach when your son (Tebow) does not play as much as you think he should. And when your son leaves the team, you couldn't give two craps about that team any more. It is as if you and your family moved to another town. This is not a normal NFL fan viewpoint. I hope you see the difference
I never faulted him for not being perfect. I laugh at the mentality of the tebots who excuse every one of his faults by blaming others. In this case, we have people blaming Rex.
Good points. I guess you could be right. I just think most football people do a bit more digging and they have a world of info at their fingertips so this story wouldn't really sway them. Just my opinion. Just passing along info bro.
What a crock of shit. Michael Vick was the most hated person in the United States after being sentenced to prison for extreme animal cruelty. He had a job one month after his release from prison. Ndamukong Suh has been voted the dirtiest player in the league for back to back seasons. He stomps people. He purposely kicks them in the balls. If the Lions released him tomorrow it would take him exactly one day to be signed by another team. Richie Incognito, Cortland Finnegan. Shit Ray Lewis probably murdered a guy. The list goes on and on and on. Reputation doesn't mean shit when it comes to being signed by a franchise. If you think this will keep teams from signing Tebow you're more delusional than I thought. Talent is the only thing that matters in the NFL. If Tebow has what a team wants, it doesn't matter if he was arrested for threatening to kill his mother (Dez Bryant), or be arrested for constantly beating your wife (Chad Johnson). If you've got the goods, the NFL wants you no matter what. Coaches, GMs; they get paid millions of dollars every year to produce a winning product. That's the bottom line.
No - you were halfway there and then you lost your way. Ryan and the Jets have the same doubts as you that Tebow can ever be an NFL QB. They dressed him as a wildcat package QB and an emergency back up in case Sanchez got hurt. They did not want to waste a roster spot dressing 3 QBs. The Jets did not fear looking stupid if Tebow came in and had success, they feared that they would become the 2011 Broncos redux and be stuck explaining to the media and Tebow's followers why he is not even in the discussion regarding the future QB of the Jets in 2013 and beyond even though he won a game or two. You see, if you don't think a player has what it takes to be an NFL QB and you watch him every day in practice and your opinion is corroborated by what you see in practice, then why bother putting Tebow in as a starter? Why put a player at a position that you and the rest of the organization KNOW he can't play going forward??? They jumped over him because they thought maybe McElroy could be an NFL QB and had not seen enough of him. Tebow got what he was promised - a chance to run a special package as a QB and some plays at other positions. Show me where the Jets ever said otherwise??????
I get it. But you are making some assumptions that are not necessarily correct, and subsequently ignoring the differences between the different types of fans. First, many of us have favorite teams other than the Jets that we root for. Personally, I root for the Florida Gators, Miami Heat, and NY Giants... in that order. That doesn't mean I am not a fan of other players who aren't on my team. Loved Michael Jordan as a player though he constantly beat down my Knicks. I'm a fan of Dwayne Wade even if he leaves the Heat someday. Same with Lebron. Yes, I'm protective of my "son" Tebow, because I am a Gator homer. I love my Gators like you love the Jets. It's different when a youngster graduates from the same school as you compared to a guy who just played on your favorite professional team. If Tebow succeeds, he brings positive light to the University of Florida. But regardless of his alma mater, I just like the way he plays football. I think the analysts are wrong about his NFL QB ability. That is the #1 reason I argue here. The other stuff is just collateral. In summary, I have teams I support just like you do.
They said he could get "up to 20 plays a game." Not 20. They said he could get one or he could get 20 or he could somewhere in between. To be honest, he stunk up the preseason and he obviously stunk up practices. He may have under utilized as a wildcat QB, but he was owed nothing more than any other NFL player - a chance to play in practice and his salary. This is not youth football where every player has to play a quarter. I swear, you people are worse than parents of young player who think their son is not playing enough. That is what you people sound like. "My Timmy is not going to get a scholarship to State U because Coach Ryan won't play him over Mark and Greg, who both stink, and now my Timmy's future is ruined. Waaaaaah."
Is this what you imagine? Oh the wonderful fantasy world that tebots live in. Do you also imagine the lolly pop kids dancing around and singing songs about how awesome Tebow is? Does Rex Ryan ride in on a broom stick and shoot fireballs at Tebow once in a while? How often do the flying monkeys mess up your Tebow fantasies? Not only do you guys blame everyone else for Tebow sucking but you pick and choose which of the news reports are accurate and which are just made up. Shockingly the ones that are made up are always the ones that don't shed Tebow in a good light. I wonder what it will take for you guys to finally wake up and see reality instead of filtering out anything that doesn't fit your alternate reality and focusing on and twisting everything that does. If Tebow can't beat out Blaine Gabbert, who's fault will it be?
Your rooting interest in teams never comes out in your posts. Thanks for clearing that up. I'm sorry to hear that you are a Giants fan, but........ I get it.
What's pure stupidity is that you actually believe it's a possibility that Tebow IS perfect. You don't know if Tebow is perfect or not? Are you for real? Their actually isn't any necessity to apply logic to the question of whether or not Tebow is perfect. He's not, no matter how badly you wish he was. given: no one is perfect tebow is a person
You should tweet him about it. Seriously. He is a pretty good guy he will probably answer you as long as you are respectful.
Talk about fairy tales. You, and some others here, have conjured up this myth in your minds, the myth that we don't hold Tebow responsible for anything, that he's perfect, that he's a HoF ProBowl QB right now. I don't know if it's delusion on your part, or if you basically lie with these convenient red herrings that you continue to throw out there. Given the entire history of what everyone knows about Tebow, is it even remotely plausible that he told Rex that he didn't want to play in the WC anymore ? No, it isn't. Even Ron Jaworksi questioned this when he was on with Adam Schefter and Hoge. The scenario I gave was an EXAMPLE. It was one POSSIBILITY that describes what could have happened. If you opened your eyes and bothered to look at it OBJECTIVELY and RATIONALLY, you'd see that it does indeed make sense. OR, that the point it was making, that there was a miscommunication, is very likely.
You should have just left it at that. I know. It's either the media's fault or Rex Ryan's fault that this vicious rumor came out. Clearly, given the entire history of what everyone knows about Tebow it's not remotely plausible. delusional is right.
