http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/je...d-a-reputation-then-people-try-to-bring-you-d No surprise on where I stand with this one
Why does he care what the media/fans looking for reason to shit on him think? Your reputation is not held by those people. It is with the people that actually do know him. They are the only ones that matter. As much as I make fun of him on here at the end of the day my opinion is just that, an opinion by somebody who doesn't matter.
If this was the old days where players were with one team for their entire career, your point might be valid. But in today's world, your reputation outside of your team is just as important as your reputation within it. Additionally, if you view yourself as a role model, it matters as well. Additionally, not sure that you are compartmentalizing things here the way Tebow correctly did. He's separating his "reputation" as a football player and his "reputation" with regards to character. He doesn't care if people think that he sucks as a QB. He does care that some people have questioned his character.
WTH are you talking about? What do you want him to do? Keep silent and just suck whatever is dumped on him?
I've never been a fan of Tebow as a QB but I really am appalled at what this organization has done to him. The guy is a class act.
I definitely see your point, but in his position I'd be pretty bummed too. Especially given the fact that he is trying to market himself to a new team as a starting QB.
I listened to a radio program. The reporter stretched it even further. He said Tebow was asked to play wildcat during the game, but he said no and refused to get on the field. If Tebow doesn't stand up for himself and speak out, he will be permanently labeled by this BS.
Hopefully mine will not . In case Cowboys get lucky, join the cowboys forum, we welcome new fans and as I stated publicly before you are one of the most knowledgeable football fans I have spoken to .
But those people on other teams aren't just going to buy what the media shovels out. They understand the games the media plays. They will call Rex and Tebow if they want the truth. As for being a role model, thats a genuine concern I guess. I think it is silly, not that what I think matters though. But I think anybody viewing him as a role model, again, would take his words and actions from the past over people like Merrill Hoge's. I don't care what he does I just think he is sort of stooping to respond to people who aren't in positions to affect him. I'd be bummed too. Pissed off. I mean that is just a reaction. I just don't feel he needed to act like this is so damaging to his reputation when somebody is just trying to sell newspapers or get you to click a link.
One of the Phins beat reporters, Omar Kelly, claims that Tebow curses and drinks but he does so in private and doesn't make a show out of it. I don't know if there is any truth to that or not.
Unfortunately, you are wrong about people not buying what the media shovels out. Some won't, but many others will. Hell, just look through the threads on the topic here. How many posters here have called him a phony ? Or a hypocrite ? It's a miscalculation to say that those people aren't in positions to affect him. If you was just you sitting at home, that would be different. He's talking about people in the media who ARE in a position to affect him based on the size of the respective audiences that they have.
Sometimes, I wonder if you really believe what you are saying. Tebow=professional athlete/public figure/celebrity You=some guy on the internet There is a difference between how he has to protect his reputation and you having the option of not caring what people think.
Rick Reilly hired a lip reader to watch one of the Denver games last year and see if Tebow ever cursed. He didn't. Tebow has been mic'd up now for several games. There were multiple game "heat of the moment" type opportunities for him to curse, if he did that sort of thing. A lot of people would curse if they got tackled by Lance Briggs and Brian Urlacher. He didn't.
I was talking about people in important positions on other teams. They aren't going to take the media's word for it. As for posters on this site...do you think they really represent anything close to an unbiased or accurate representation of actual fans? Most people on this site are looking for reason to criticize Tebow. As for media audience, I think anybody who is willing to overlook Tebow's massive body of work as far as his reputation/character is concerned, and take one story as gospel, does not matter either.
