Dude c'mon okay wilson your right.. but just wait till coples has a full off season he WILL be in our base defense. Honestly I think coples is versatile enough to play anywhere on the D line. The way him and Wilkerson play together they just stunt them and shitt and create problems for any O line. I don't believe one bit Coples will be like Wilson in that aspect. And remember we heard earlier in the season that Coples only got part of the playbook.
Coples has WAY better arm scars then any of the other guys. Question is, which D-Lineman will Rex use our #1 on next year?
The shitty RB Jets are always drafting in the later rounds are indeed dime a dozen. Some of the early round RB (like last draft) have been pretty damn good.
I think our defensive line is set for years to come, and as of late we are seeing with experience that line start to become a major factor. We just need to do the same for the oline and we are good in the trenches.
his arm scars really are grim, I keep imagining one is going to get snagged on another guys helmet or something and just come right off.....*shudder* that said I was a fan of the pick and remain a fan of it.
I liked the Coples pick then, and I'm loving it now. To think that Wilkerson also started slow last year and started picking up at the end and now he's just wrecking it out there, now to see Coples also heating up at the end, it gives me the shills.
This is my biggest worry about Rex; I like him as our HC but I don't want his Defensive obsession to undermine our draft. In my opinion, 5-6 of our draft picks have to be on the offensive side of the ball this year.
Coples wasn't drafted to be a situational pass rusher. He was drafted as a player with the ability to play 34 DE OR OLB and 43 DT OR DE. Coples is good against the run.DeVito just happens to be very good against the run. That is the only reason he has gotten more playing time.
So what? He's talented but so are Bernard Pierce taken late 3rd rnd, Alfred Morris in the 6th, Bryce Brown in the 7th. You don't find DE's comparable to Coples past the 1st round. Hell, most teams backup RBs can step in and do a comparable job, that's just not possible at other positions.
None of the backs u named are comparable to Martin. None. Pierce is a backup and thats all he'll ever be. Alfred Morris is a late round gem and is most definitely not the rule. For every Alfred Morris or Arian Foster there are 20 late round RBs on the street that couldnt make it. Bryce Brown cant hang on to the ball and had two good games... He will not get significant playing time again with McCoy back. What about Elvis Dummervil? Justin Houstin? James Harrison? Lance Briggs? Sean Phillips? Jared Allen? Justin Tuck? Trent Cole? Cameron Wake? See I can name people too...
And for every Doug Martin theres a Felix Jones. My point is that we have other pressing needs that cant be solved as easily as RB. Using a 1st rnd pick on an RB is stupid with the amount of quality backs floating around. Montario Hardesty ypc is a whole yard more this year than Trent Richardson but the browns just sold the farm to get him. I don't want the Jets to do that. Im not naming random players, those guys are comparable. Pierce is a beast and would have similar stats to Martin if TB drafted him instead. Brown is one of the most talented runners in the league and will be awesome if he learns to carry the ball against his body like an NFL player. I'm naming them to show that good/great RB's can be had without costing a 1st round pick and $30 mil contract. edit : here's an article that I found from a quick web search that touches on this with a little more detail http://11-on-11.blogspot.com/2012/10/angry-rant-running-backs-are-overrated.html?m=1
I wasn't a fan of the pick at first, but he changed my mind with his play. I wanted either Mark Barron or Michael Floyd.
Whether or not you love Coples, if he was our biggest problem the Jets would be in the Superbowl. Jets D-line is very solid. If they could get a couple of decent LB's with speed the Jets defense has the potential to be very good in the coming years.
Rex wanted Bruce Irvin he was his first choice but Seattle got to him first, Coples has had a great season for a Rookie DE I can't complain about it. He leads the team in sacks with 5 1/2 so hopefully next year he can double that. I read an interview and he has 31/2 sacks in the last 3 games he says it is getting easier for him to read offenses and that's huge for a Rookie DE, He is on his way to being our Sack machine
Wanted Wilson from the start. I'm an NC State fan and got to watch him play for State. Was extremely upset when he transferred. Always knew he had the talent to play in the NFL.
I was scared of the pick, but I love the guy, he and Mo are gonna be great for the next decade, really excited for this defense
He definitely looks a lot better lately. Coples could have a couple more sacks but they were taken away by stupid penalties. He has I think 3 where he got facemasks on the QB or roughing the passer. I'd love to see us get a pass rushing OLB to go with Wilk and Coples.
The only players I'd pick over Coples would be Luck, RGIII or Matt Kalil. In hindsite, obviously because Sanchez stunk it up much more than expected this year. Given the situation at the time, Coples was the right pick.
