If you were to do over the 2012 draft, would you pick Quinton Coples?

To me it's always been a tossup between Coples and Jones...and Rex Ryan certainly knows a shitload more about evaluating pass rushers than I do, so I defer to his decision.

Perfectly happy with Coples' rookie year.

Good running backs are a dime a dozen. I'd be pretty pissed off if we spent a 1st round pick on one.

    1,312 yards, 10 TDs, 45 receptions, 454 receiving yards, 1 TD, 1 fumble in 15 games.

Yeah... I think I'd be happy about that for a rookie.

  5. Keep in mind the O-line he is running behind.

I like Doug Martin..no doubt. But a versatile DE w/ the skill set Coples has is a infinitely more valuable piece to an organization than a workhorse RB.

FYI, Carl Nicks and Davin Joseph played a combined 7 games. Both being their best guards.

It's way too soon to say. As of now, I have no issues with the Coples pick at all.

I understand the Doug Martin love for sure. He's had a great year, and we could really use a guy like that.

But those of you saying Decastro...have you seen him play this year? Geno Atkins used and abused him yesterday.

Can someone tell be what position Coples would play in the base defense if and when he becomes a starter? Will we be switching to a 4-3?

Very happy with the pick. Coples looks like a every down player in the future for the Jets. Martin would've been nice too but in the current NFL finding a really good DE is harder than a good RB. While Jones has shown flashes too he's also missed multiple games already.

Yea I wanted him really bad but looking back I think its better we got Coples. I expect a big year from him next season. People said he was lazy but I've seen a good motor.

    11-1-87 Irvin's date of birth

    6-22-90 Coples's date of birth

    Coples is three years younger.

I've heard the lazy tag a bunch too. One thing ill always remember though is what Gruden said draft day after they picked him. He said some say lazy but that he was so gifted he just made things look easy. At this point the latter seems the case.

I'm still not 100% sold on Coples as a every down DE in this defense, but there is no doubt that he has shitloads of potential. I think he had the highest ceiling of any defensive player in the draft and he's just 22 years old while the coaching staff has already done a good job with Wilkerson and Devito.

16th overall pick is a high price to pay for someone you are not 100% sure can be an every down DE in this defense.

It was his second game of his rookie season after a severe knee injury going up against the one of the best DTs in the game... I think it's unfair to judge him already.

Absolutely, but DeCastro, who I wanted on draft day, hasn't done anything in the league yet and Doug Martin's violent running style might make his carrier short. There are no guarantees.

I think pass rusher was the right position just not sure Coples was the right pick because he doesn't seem to have a role in our base package. When you include Wilson, who we drafter to be our nickel CB, this would be the 2nd first rounder drafted primarily for a defensive sub-package. I don't think this roster is or was at the time good enough to draft part time players.
