No potential GM is going to agree to those terms. Tanny is gone. If Woody Johnson gets a legitimate GM, you can bet Rex is also gone. Any serious suitor will want to obliterate the circus atmosphere altogether.
Because Woody Johnson is problem number one, and he can't be fired. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
Woody's biggest mistake will be keeping Tannenbaum in the building. If he is going to replace Tanny he needs to outright fire him.
I hate the idea of moving Tannenbaum to a different position. It is not credible to think that simply changing who has final say will result in any meaningful change. If you're going to change, gut the system, fire everyone and hire on the basis of talent, not incubancy.
I'm not going to claim that I know for sure what the right decision is, but midlessly clinging to continuity for the sake of continuity is no more sensible than clinging to change for the sake of change.
We arent going to get a single, legit GM candidate to seriously consider the position with Tanny still here. I just can't believe Woody is even considering this... But at the same time I am, because it is the Jets. JUST DO IT RIGHT WOODY.
You guys all realize that Woody's "football brain" has been Tanny from jump street, right? That's why he's so hesitant to part ways with him. Woody knows jack about the actual football side of running an NFL franchise; I'm not sure Tanny does either, but Woody thinks he does.
Holding the record for most playoff wins as a jets coach is like holding a record in the special olympics. This front office is an absolute fucking joke and should have been fired last year when the locker room imploded.
Well, I agree with your take about retaining Rex, that is a no brainer. He brought us a competitive team and an above average D since day one. This year injuries were astronomical so I support your assertion about Rex. But life is far from rosie Having said that, we have glaring holes in management that need to be corrected. 1- The whole talent scout team has missed the boat more than once. We need to keep Tanny away from personnel moves and focus on the financials. Fire the rest 2- We let go of a strenght and conditioning coach that was the best in the business and it shows in spades with the injuries 3- Sanchez is not the answer. Weapons or not, we need a QB that can lead this team, pull a rabbit out of the hat on occasion and lead us from behind when adversity strickes. We don't need a guy that simply will not loose it for us. Why in hell did we extend and guaranteed his contract. 4- I blame the front office for a total lack of understanding as to how weak the OL was. Sparano got a raw deal but his poor play calling and lack of personnel skill evaluation was dismal. We had no chance to be compettive offensively 5- Letting go of Brad Smith and bringing in Tebow was a joke that no respectable team should endure 6- I said it 100 times on this forum, we need people that know talent, live and breed the game and build from the draft without mortgaging the future. We have no such leadership except for Rex and a few coaches.
They did the same thing with Bradway. This organization is a schizophrenic embarrassment. Why can't they just fire a guy? What is so indispensable about these losers in the front office that Woody feels compelled to keep them around. Same with the Tebow treatment. He's the backup, no he isn't. He's a WC guy, no he isn't. He has cracked ribs, but he dresses. His ribs are healing, but McElroy dresses. What is wrong with this franchise??
You keep saying its one losing season but what you seem to be missing is the fact that this team is not headed in the right direction. Big $ contracts were given to the wrong players(Holmes) and the team has been left with very poor talent and depth. That kind of "continuity" I can do without.
Johnsons Mancrush with Tannenbaum will cost us getting a quality GM. Insiders say there is no way that a candidate would take Tannenbaum as a cap specialist. (yeah he has done a great job in that department). the bottom line is that we need to clean house including GM, Coach's including RR and bring in a Polian type GM who has total control. Then try to sell off the assets. This is going to be a 3 year plan. Tannenbaum is the equivalent of an Isiah Thomas and we need a Donnie Walsh guy to come in a clean up this mess. Anyone who thinks this is a one year project is crazy. It is going to take years to rebuild the Jets.
Well it's apparent that mancrushes have been the downfall with this team in general. Ryan's mancrush of Sanchez cost us games.
I don't believe Ryan had/has a man crush on Sanchez - what were Ryan's options? Brunell? Clemens? Tebow? Tanny has spectacularly failed to bring in any realistic competition for Sanchez from day 1 so Rex has had no choice but to be seen to be supportive or Sanchez (not to mention the fact that given the huge rookie contract they pretty much needed him to succeed).
