I honestly do not like the way Rex has coached in 2012, however, I feel he has earned one more season to right the ship. He had a bad roster, filled with injuries, and a terrible offense. Get a new OC, maybe a new QB and see how he does in 2013. If they finish below 9-7, then it will be time to part ways.
LOL. The defense went from 1st to 3rd to 5th, and is currently 7th (with no Revis and lackluster linebackers). Give me a break. Defense is the least of this team's problems.
I just wonder how the impatient part of the fanbase would react if a guy like bill cowher took over and lost 4 afc title games at home as had a few down seasons. I wonder how soon they would be calling for his head, same with a guy like Sean Payton, took his team to the NFC title game his first year followed by 7-9 and 8-8. Teams have down years and regardless of who the coach is down years happen. Best off riding it out with Rex, have a productive offseason and do everything possible to give him a better team to work with in 2013.
Not that anyone cares for the Pats fan perspective on this, but hey, it's Christmas. Give me some leeway. In the last 11 or 12 years or whatever it's been, the only serious threat within the division came from the Rex Ryan led Jets in 2009 and 2010. That's really the only time, among the three other teams, that anyone's taken a legitimate run at New England and made winning the division more than just an afterthought. (I realize the Patriots missed the playoffs entirely in 2002 and 2008, but they finished tied in wins/losses and lost out on tiebreakers in those seasons, and in '08 expectations dropped the minute Brady did.) Your team needs to plug some holes, that's no secret. Some of them are big, sink-your-boat-type holes. But I don't believe that Rex Ryan is part of the problem. He needs to get help with the offense, and he needs to do something about his QB situation of course, but I think Woody Johnson would be insane to fire him at this point.
Unless you watched all the Jets games the past two seasons, it's tough to take your opinion seriously. You're suggesting we sit here and take it up the ass until Brady retires. Great, so when he does finally retire, we'll be a veteran team with a ton of bloated contracts because we were just trying to stay relevant and shoot for the wildcard every year. How about we start preparing for life after Tom Brady now? I'd like to get the jump on your team. Insane would be Kraft firing Bill Belichick.
OK I'm 100% on the keeping Rex bandwagon but if he were to be replaced I'd only find three candidates acceptable. First on my list is Bruce Arians, he sure knows how to develop a QB what he did with Indy this year as an interim just proves he should get a shot as a head coach. Next candidate would be Chip Kelly but seeing that he's linked to Philly chances would be slim, but it would be great to see what he'd do to our offense. The only other acceptable one in my book would be John Gruden but he seems a little too comfortable in the booth to leave it for our circus of an organization. Hopefully Rex is back next year but if Woody cleans house I really hope Arians gets brought in
I would not replace Rex Ryan with Bruce Arians or Chip Kelly. And with all due respect to Jon Gruden, I'm not ready to replace Rex with him either. I'd rather just give Rex another season. Get healthy on offense, have Braylon for a whole season, retool the offense through the draft. I'd like to see how the team performs with a more capable offense and the usual solid-good defense.
Kotite went 3-13 and was given another chance. Rex won 11 games, 13 games, 8 games and now 6 or 7 games. Still deserves 1 more chance. However, another 6-10 to 8-8 season or anything worse, and move on.
The Jets are not going to be a much better team next season. The Jets have cap issues. One off-season isn't going to fix the Jets issues. The cap will be set at $121M for 2013. Nearly $142M committed. Cutting Pace,Scott and the 2 Smith's opens up $30.7M. Cutting Tebow opens up $1.5M. It doesn't leave much money to re-sign any of their own free agents or pursue any players in free agency. The Jets need to fill out the roster. The new CBA has hurt the Jets. The flat caps have hurt the Jets and the other teams but those are the rules. The Jets should avoid restructuring contracts. Take your medicine in 2013.
my problem is not so much about the down years and the record, it is the fact that there are glaring issues with the team that reflects poorly on the head coach. Payton and Cowher did not have these problems or errors in decision making.
Were you fans of their teams at the time? I'm sure both Payton and Cowher had many issues and questionable decisions; we are just more attuned to Rex's faults because we are Jets fans.
No. He's a gift basket from Jim Caldwell away from being out of the playoffs three out of four years and he's lost this team. He's a great defensive mind and he'll be a top tier defensive coordinator somewhere again soon, but I'd much rather move on with someone who's at least competent with the offensive side of the ball. With that said, his firing won't come until another 8-8 or worse campaign in 2013.
Thank you but unfortunately we have an isnane fanbase that wants change for the sake of change. I hope the organization is smarter than the fire Rex but I'm not confident.
Team has fallen off a cliff talent wise, has made bizarre personnel decisions....the biggest problem with the team is the owner...unless he has a come to Jesus moment and decides to be 100% about football it doesnt matter who the coach is.
Rex must go !!! He has become a babbler, now he sounds just like a Sanchez interview....He must go, maybe make him D.C.
