Rex seems like a really nice guy. Unfortunately, he doesn't understand the league. Offense wins in the NFL. The rules do not favor the defense. Looking at the game from a defensive point of view means he fails the most basic rule of coaching. He is misreading the game.
Yeah, we just disagree on the plan. I think a new GM could implement that plan with Rex without blowing everything up
Well then one thing is certain, we want a proven football executive to come in and assess the entire organization from top to bottom. The other part is how much pain are you willing to endure in order to right the ship. I'm willing to go through hell in the short term if that's course the new President/GM sets us on. I just feel that we need to shore up the foundation with talented youth through the draft before we can begin to build the team back up. That is going to take some time. We need quality draft picks so we have the money down the road to fill in the missing pieces through free agency. All this will take time. time time time and patience
Rex is a less successful Gruden? Dungy turned around the Bucs. Cowher went to the playoffs his first six years.
^^^^^^^No, it's just no one can give me concrete reasons why Rex is a solid head coach. Terrible in game strategy, horrendous clock management, questionable personnel decisions, and despite his rep as a "defensive genius", a d that constantly gives up the big play. If his name was michaels or Walton or collet or Carroll or Edwards or Mangini, color his ass fired. But, his frat boy attitude has garnered support for some reason, and he endures despite these obvious shortcomings
What about problems on the offense? Has he showed you anything that makes you he can turn around the offense? That's what bothers me. He is the head coach of the whole team, not the defense. What makes you think if the offense sputters next year he will step up and stabilize the situation . What do you guys think about how he handled the QB problem, the Tebow issue. He has failed 2 years in a row with this. the only problem with Rex is how bad he is on the Offensive decisions. Do you think we can win with a mentality like this??
Well this next draft, as crazy as it sounds, cannot be about QB position. We don't have a high enough pick and nobody is wowing me in the draft. So we need to shore up the Ol and LB and S and whatever positions we lose due to cap hell. This also means avoid big time FA and trading up. This also means probably sucking next year. THen the following year or the year after we look for the QB. But the hope is by then we have a good OL and D to help the future QB along before he turns it on and becomes the future. The poster I responded to said Rex took Mangini teams and that he has declined steadily so he should be gone. If we used that logic on Cowher, Cowher would have not been around to win his SB since he missed the playoffs 3 straight years. Also Gruden should not be part of the conversation either since he took Dungy's team. That was my point.
He has a sound defensive mind. He has to make the mental transition from a DC to a HC. Will he is the question
No, of course we cannot win with the way Rex has handled certain issues the past two seasons. I also think it's going to be much worse going forward if he stays, because like Sanchez, Rex is taking a big hit to his own confidence. The way I look at it is that some people are just not meant to be head coaches. Doesn't mean it's a bad thing, it's just that Rex really only cares about defense. He doesn't even step up to tell Sparano that hey, maybe it isn't such a good idea to yank the starting QB when he's on a roll. WTF is up with that? No good head coach would let that happen over and over and over again. Even the TV announcers are like WTF? Every game!
Gruden didn't turn around the RAIDERS? And Rich Gannon, who was a scrub QB before Gruden made him into a Pro Bowler? The irony is Gruden left the Raiders right when they were on the verge, went to another team on the verge and finished the job with them. So he did prove he could 'build' and win, just not in the same place.
Oh so Gruden can build us up, leave for a different team, then beat us in the SB? Yeah I'd sing up for that
It wasn't entirely his choice to leave the Raiders though...King Al was getting tired of Chucky getting all the credit.
I was kidding, hence the smiley. I just don't think if you have to offer someone a blank check to come and rebuild or you have to entice someone to come here, it's probably not going to end up too well.
There's more than one way to skin a cat my friend. And FYI 5 of the 12 playoff teams are in the bottom half of the league in offense.
Does anyone believe that this is a well run organization with a solid plan to build a SB winner? If you do fine. I don't see it. Now on the flip side the chances of our owner putting together that kind of organization is very slim. The chances are pretty good that Woody will not dump the current management and if he does put in new management that will be similiarly inept. In a word we are pretty much what we have always been, a team depending on a lot of things that aren't in managements control going right to have a good year.
Rex needs to go. The defense was not good this year. They got blown out plenty and got run on all day. Last 4 weeks have been joke of schedule and they are losing.... yea it close. Arizona was close, what a defensive struggle. Give me a break. Fire him
its not a well run organization biggs, not even remotely. it doesnt have the correct vision and really has no sense. if woody is smart he will send tanny and whoever the hell else is making decisions around florham park to the unemployment line and bring in some people who he can trust and put things in their hands to make decisions and run the team. if he doesnt do that we will continue to wallow for years to come, i would hope that he would bring help in to help him find the right management.. as i dont think he has a fucking clue how to do it. if rex has to go then thats fine, but lets get someone with a brain in here to come up with a plan and a vision for what the jets are going to be in the future. without the rah rah bullshit and childish antics we have been dealing with the past few years.
And hire whom? Keep in mind, according to some pundits on here, we're a circus that nobody wants to work for.
It took Tom Coughlin 4 years to win a Super Bowl with the Giants, then 4 years to do it again. It took Mike McCarthy 5 years with the Packers. Dungy also needed 5 years with the Colts. Meanwhile, 11 head coaches were hired in 2009, and already 9 have been fired (just Rex and Jim Schwartz remain.) My point? It's really hard to make a good coaching hire in the NFL. You can't assume that Ryan will never win a title just because he hasn't yet, and you really can't assume that whoever we hire to replace him will be an upgrade.
