^^^^what is this "identity" Ryan supposedly gave us? National jokes? We already had that one. And I agree, belichek did not have instant success, but the team steadily IMPROVED and became champions. The Jets have steadily GOTTEN WORSE. Why don't any of you Ryan apologists acknowledge that? As for who would come here, how are you so sure that a gruden or cowher wouldn't with the right incentives? We've seen all we are going to see from big mouth Ryan. Let's try a real nfl head coach
Why would gruden or cowher come to a 'national joke'. Gruden didn't exactly sound like he wanted to be here either.
I saw you mention Cowher and Gruden? How long are you willing to give Cowher? It took him 13 years to get that SB including a streak of 4/5 years of missing the playoffs. before getting Big Ben. Coincidence? And if Rex took Mangini's talent, what exactly did Gruden do? He took Dungy's talent, won a SB, then 4 missed playoffs and 0-2 in the 2 years he made it. Declining every year. Any other people you wish to come here? Becauase according to your logic, both don't really meet your standards
Regardless of the "Jokes' you want to refer to, we are still a top tier defense year in and year out. We play great defense and were supposed to wear other teams down with smash mouth offense and ground N' pound. That obviously hasn't happened the past few years. It is kinda hard to improve on the high expectations that Rex set the bar at his first two years, the only other way to improve on that is winning a Super Bowl which can happen of the offense becomes more effective and at least to an average degree of play. The other point with the regress that you seemingly don't care to acknowledge is that this team has also STEADILY lost talent at a lot of key positions, especially on offense. Look at our team man, there isn't a lot of household names on this roster to the outside world. You can blame Rex for that all you want but he is not the reason for that failure, no matter how you want to try and spin it. That comes from the top and he follows his orders like a good soldier should, he works with what he is given and as far as I'm concerned I am surprised he has got as much production out of this team as he has this year. Especially when you look at the fact that before the season officially started the talent on this team (especially on offense) wasn't very good, then you look at all these injuries that happened and it really brought to light how poor our depth and talent really is on this team. There is nothing that would prevent this team from going on a steep decline unless you replenish that talent that leaves and that sure as fuck never happened. Just look at every position on the offense except for the RB position and even there you could make a case that the talent and depth is not up to par (not even close) to where it should be. You give Rex just a little more to work with and he will make us contenders, you give him excellent tools to work with and we will be very fucking hard to beat. I believe that with all my heart. Your last point.. Why the fuck would either Gruden or Cowher come here.. You are listing all of these things that are wrong and wrongfully placing the blame on Rex for them, so flip the script.. What sales pitch would you give these previously successful coaches? It sure as fuck wont be the money because neither of them are hurting for it, so what do you think this team in it's current state has to offer either of those coaches? Honestly..
Well, those guys won championships, whatever the circumstances. I see a team now that is regressing and with no plan to speak of. I'm not saying there would be instant success, but they have won, know what it takes to win, and I believe would implement a plan. Ryan just seems clueless to me.
Again, how much time would you give them? Gruden hasn't shown any talent of creating and winning with his talent. Again, he took Dungy's team and then did nothing once he started to get his own guys. Cowher took 13 years and finally own one when Big Ben showed up. Again, are you willing to give Cowher 10+ years to influence this team? On top of that, no coach has ever won a SB on two different teams. To sum up, Cowher took 13 years to get what he needed and Gruden showed no ability to build a team which is what you would be asking.
You know, you guys want to give Ryan all kinds of accolades for losing two afc championship games, but the shitty subsequent seasons are everyone's fault but his. Why does he deserve the Teflon coating?
Rex knows what it takes to win as well, he has always been a winner in this league. He has proven with the Jets that he can win at a high level within the playoffs when given a decent roster to work with. The Jets haven't had the best roster the last couple years and it's only gotten worse. I still don't think that the roster was great in 09' and 10' but it was definitely better than the rosters that have taken the field the last couple years. I don't blame Rex for that, you obviously do, but you really need to realize that Rex is the face of this team, not the boss. He has to answer to several people within this organization and he has to abide by their final say. Which includes the talent that leaves and enters this team, his job is to keep people accountable, draw up schemes, coach up his players, and win football games within the boundaries that is given to him. He is doing the best he can, sure he has made mistakes but I don't believe any of those mistakes warrant his firing. Every new HC goes through growing pains, even the great ones, and I think he very well could be a great one.
So you're whole argument is to keep Ryan cause there is no one that can provide instant success? Yea, cowher took 13 years, and gruden rode dungy's coattails, but they won, and know what it takes to win. Which is more than Ryan can or ever will be ever to say.
Just because you say it's his fault, doesn't make it true. I have given you multiple reasons now on why this team is shit and why a lot of it is not a direct reflection of Rex. You are blaming him for the talent on this roster. That is not his job title, that is not his niche'. He has input, that is it, and that's all it ever will be. I have pointed out the success he has had with this team, which is valid. You seemingly want to ignore his success that he brought to this team and only point out the last two seasons as if the good never happened. Then you want to try and fall back on the fact that we are regressing as a team because of, Rex. So, I point out the very simple nature of it, If the guy has proven that he can get us on a deep playoff run TWICE already with serviceable talent, then why wouldn't he be able to do it again given the same kind of roster potential? He hasn't had the same type of talent on this roster since those first two playoff runs because of his bosses and some of the stupid roster decisions they have made. The talent on this roster is not a direct reflection of Rex Ryan because he does not make those decisions for this team, he only works with what he has in front of him. ..and I think he has got the very best out of the hand he was dealt. I would love to know what coach would have done more with the talent that is on this team? Seriously, who could have done better with the hot pile of garbage offensive talent pool that this organization tried to feed us as "good/serviceable"? This was never a talented roster, this was never a roster that should've made the playoffs but we still had a chance of doing it despite all of the obstacles that have happened this year. That is because Rex Ryan got the absolute most out of the steaming pile of shit he was dealt.
No, I don't trust either of them to rebuild the team effectively. I also don't think you give them blank checks just because they know how to win. That's a terrible idea. You get someone who has a plan and would be invested in it. You don't get someone who is only going tocome here for a blank check.
I want what Wahoo wants, a complete blow up. However, I would be willing to give Rex an additional season if and only if a proven and great NFL executive is brought in to run the front office. If we get a new person and he thinks it's worthy to see if Rex can correct his weaknesses then I would be OK with that. I trust a proven NFL person to make the call. If we do get that proven exec then it's going to be a breaking down process during the first season and Rex won't really be that important anyway. Basically we need to clear the crap off the roster next season before moving forward in 2014.
^^^then Rex is a dope. If my job and legacy hinged on people that were not going to put me in a position to win, I leave rather tan be tainted by incompetence. And, need I remind you, "the most talented team I've had since I've been here". Who said that?
Your first part is what I want. Because I think this defense is overachieving with Rex and if our GM can be a football guy and we get a a new OC, we can be a good team without a franchise QB. Then we can be over the top with a franchise QB. The other path is blowing everything up and sucking until we find the franchise QB. I would rather the first path and the first path seems realisitic. If the new exec wants Rex gone and has a replacement sure, but I don't want to blowup just to blowup and then settle on a HC with a blank check.
Well, we are in agreement there. There has to be a plan, top to bottom. GM, scouting, coaching. If there isn't, it's immaterial who you bring in.
I actually recall him saying that it might be the most talented defense he has had since being here, but I could be wrong. Regardless, we all know he is a build em up type coach, he looks for any resource he can think of or say that will get the most out of his players. I've never had a problem with that, even if it is stretching the truth at times. Rex is under contract till 2014. He is a very loyal person in general and there is no way he would ever straight leave this organization because of the loyalty he has to this organization for giving him a shot at being a HC. This is the NFL man, there have been so many good HC that have been tainted because of bad management above them, it happens all the time but it still isn't a reflection of, Rex. He wants this to work out and he wants to trust the people above him to put him in a position to succeed, it really hasn't happened, but I don't see how you can fault him for that? Seems like you are looking for any excuse at this point to make Rex look like the bad guy. That is really reaching man.
What is the point in keeping this lying POS around...Have you seen his press conferences, he has been neutered...This is the moron who dresses 2 QB's against Jacksonville, Sanchez and Tebow, with 2 fractured ribs, while sitting McELroy, who saved all of their a$$es the previous week...
Lying piece of shit...? Really? He's been 'neutered' because we have a LOSING record. Most coaches won't be happy with a losing record either.
