http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/sto...-new-york-jets-asked-left-wildcat-sources-say So now, apparently Tebow said he didn't want to run the wildcat after he was passed over for McElroy. Not only did Rex/Sparano oblige, but they suited him up. For what exactly?
Well now we see why Rex avoided speaking of this. Tebow finally putting his foot down saying he wants to stay a QB I guess
They don't want to hear it and will ride out the Rex storm and will only react if he pulls a Sanchez and completely shits the bed. Some of us can see the storm brewing, unfortunately right now most of our fans (well at least the one's on here) think it's just a passing shower. It's inevitable next season will be a mess if Rex stays on. If he isn't fired this off season, then he will be gone after next year. Just not a good head coach.
Someone needs a poll with: Should Rex stay and Tanny go. Rex go and Tanny go. Rex and Tanny go. Rex and Tanny stay. Because it seems to be the biggest discussion of Rex is how much influence he has on the roster and what decisions he made on the roster.
All of us see the storm coming, we have seen it since the Tebow trade and Sparano order BUT it's how to get through the storm. THe majority think we can get through the storm by replacing our GM/scouts and letting them make the decisions they are supposed to and let Rex and I guess Norv coach the team. THe other option which I guess you are advocating is a full blow up of the team? This also has good potential, but it means the storm worsens and that we are yet again hunting for the magic coach for the 3rd time in the last 7 or 8 years which is terrible.
How's about this- hire a coach that has had success in the nfl. The jets have done this exactly twice - weeb, who won a championship, and parcells, who almost did. The rest of their hires have been college coaches, former nfl coaches of limited success, or coordinators getting their first HC job. Instead of being the team where these guys cut their teeth, and mostly fail, let's go with the HC with a track record. It's worked before.
Okay who are the options? Also remember, no HC has a won a Super Bowl with two different teams, just saying. There is no guarantee we can get anyone here. The best coaches probably want a nice easy job to come to, not a complete rebuild and overhaul with fans and Woody and the media breathing on their neck for instant success. We don't even have a QB to entice future head coaches for. Most likely if we fire REx, we are getting another HC with no track record. So you want to continue our mediocrity basically. Or we get a HC who has been run out town in Sparano, Reid, or Turner. Not the best options for the Jets
^and your suggestion is to stick with a failed and obviously clueless coach in the hope he turns into Lombardi over night? If we are going to suck, let's suck with a plan and light at the end of the tunnel. Ryan is a dead end
Yes if you ignore me wanting a new OC and a new GM. The new GM can decide if they want Rex and I hope they keep Rex. We also need a new scouting deparment that hopefully the new GM brinngs with him. I would also hold steady with McElroy or a placeholder QB while we improved our OL and LB crop since they are our weakest units. Then the new OC gets his pack of the QBs the following draft. What is your plan again after firing Rex? Oh just get a guy who has had success. It seems you have no plan past firing Rex except "Get someone good". What a great idea! You should phone up Woody and tell him to get someone good, I'm sure that will help him with his decisions.
^so you want to stick with Ryan cause the next guy might be worse? That's the best reason for keeping Ryan you can come up with?
If you read my posts, you see that I said burn it all down - GM, scouts, coach and players. Hiring a new coach while leaving everything else in place is futile. But changing everything and leaving a failed HC in place is like refurbishing a car and leaving it with a shitty engine. Revamp top to bottom
If your not going to give Rex any credit for "almost" winning one, then you can't really include Parcells in that category either. Makes no sense. I have read your posts completely losing your mind about Rex Ryan and why he should be fired, without even thinking about what kind of impact that would ultimately have on this team. No other "TOP" coach is going to come here because money is not going to be the selling factor for those types of coaches. Why? because if they are a top notch coach with a proven track record then they have already had their success and the money that came with that success. Money has already talked to anyone out there with any credibility, so that is not going to be the driving factor for any coach like that. They would want to come to a team with a talented roster made up of younger players that they can mold into their vision. Another factor is that no other team will have this type of exposure in the media, and a Top notch coach is not going to want that type of media attention and stress. It's just not going to happen. There will be no great savior that comes in here and makes everything all better, it will be another failed experiment because of fans like you that have no patience at all and are always looking at things with a "what have you done for me lately" type of mind set. News flash, Bill Bilidouche didn't magically turn the Patriots into a top notch team year in and year out in one season. It took him awhile to find the success he did and it took him striking gold with Brady to be one of the best HC's of all time. He was given continuity within the organization and time to truly implement his vision, and it has worked wonders for that organization. Just like any successful team in this league, continuity is the key. Look at the teams that are in the playoffs every year, there is a reason for it. Rex Ryan has given the team an identity and I can still remember how great those first two years he was here felt, best I've ever felt as a Jet fan and I'm not willing to give up on him because of that alone. The guy has been handed a lot of shitty deals since being here. You really think the lack of talent on the offensive side of the ball is Rex's fault? You think Rex truly wanted Tebow here? Rex is not the boss of this team, he does not make the final decision on the talent that leaves and comes in. He has an input, obviously, but ultimately he has no say on the final say. We have a Top 10 defense every year, players want to play for him, he does not get intimidated and isn't afraid to take some risks to win, and he is a winner. Every where he has been he has been a winner and I know he can get back to having this team be a winner. This season will be a wake up call.. Sanchez and Tebow are both likely gone after this season. That is a big hurdle. Getting this offense to just average will allow us to be in the playoff hunt every year. If we eventually were able to get a top notch offense, we would be very hard to beat with Rex as the HC. I'm telling you, losing him will be a very big mistake. I fell very strongly about that.
There hasn't been much of a plan because our GM has been f'ing up our salary cap for the last three or four years. It's kind of hard to implement any kind of plan when you don't bring in effective starters to compete throughout a season. MT allowing WAYNE HUNTER to remain the starter going into the preseason and heavily relying on him to perform, knowing how badly he struggled the year before should be a heavy indicator that the guy has fucked us to the point where we couldn't even upgrade some of the most obvious positions on this roster. It took Hunter playing like the worst RT in NFL history to be traded and then all we did was promote a practice squad RT to the starting position. In what world is that ok? It's not and that is why I feel even if there was a solid plan in place, it would be impossible to do because of the cap restraints and the idiotic moves that have been made have prevented anything like that from happening.
Well we can't repalce the owner, so no way to go top to bottom. And like I said, if the new GM wants Rex gone, I am behind it. The problem is, what coach are we getting to replace Rex and would want to fix this? It's proabbly going to be someone without experience, something you said you are against. Yes we need to blow things up, but you don't have a plan after blowing it up. The worst thing to do would be to blow it up to blow it up and then settle on a coach we don't really want.
