McElroy would need time to see if he can be a good player, too bad for him, the Jets aren't in a position to wait for another young QB to develop. He'll get a chance to compete/backup in '13. But the Jets need to address the QB situation in the offseason.
He looked very much in control early on, but after he'd sat with Sanchez for a series, came out and played a bit like him, except for turning the ball over a million times. I think he will get better, but the O line has to also step up, they look like they were thinking about their vacations
And a lot of those sacks came from Greg deciding to try and rush out of the pocket 2 seconds after the snap. Honestly Do some of you guys really feel that Freckle face is the future
I dont' know that anyone thinks he's the future. However, we also don't think that Sanchez is and we know that Tebow is definitely gone after this year. So it makes no sense not to see what they have in McElroy. One game is also not a good sample size.
I agree Sanchez's performance last week was abysmal but call me crazy I much rather lose a game trying to make plays then the other way around. This is one of the reason's I've been unexpectedly pleased by Sparano. The fact that he's under Rex means he has to be conservative overall but at least the play calls in the passing game have been vertical. The turnovers we use to get under Schotty were generally on 3-5 yard hitches or outs. One of things that has plagued Sanchez's development is the fact that he hasn't been allowed to make mistakes. Last year many said Sanchez regressed but this year was really the when the regression happened. I'm sure everyone jim at 57% completion, approx 3500 yards, 32 TDs (passing and rushing) right about now. We'd probably be in the playoffs if he had put up those kind of numbers this year. Sanchez did not take this step back on his own; he got a lot of help from the FO and teammates.
I thought a lot of the sacks McElroy took were self inflicted and because the Chargers knew he was going to pass. He looked like a guy that has not taken any practice snaps all year. McElroy would likely do a lot better with more practice reps. He has gone all year without getting any practice snaps. What impressed me about McElroy were a couple fo things. One he stood int he pocket and threw while being hit. This si something Sanchez will almost never do. Sanchez will always avoid contact and give up on plays. Nice to see McElroy trying to compete. I loved his running ability. He really played hard nose and extended a few plays. But overall he looked like a guy not ready. Hopefully another week of actually getting practice reps will help him. Next week may his last chance ever to start. I hope the kid makes something of it. Unlike a high draft pick he will likely never be given an opportunity to develop.
Thought he was decent. I think his ceiling is probably a solid backup and I still feel that way. Not going to make a ton of players but I think for the most part he'll be smart with the ball and isn't going to throw you out of a game.
That's what sucks because he showed some flashes, but not enough to make me feel comfortable going with him next season.
The guy has 17 int's and 12 fumbles this year in 14.5 games played. If 29 fumbles/ints is the result when he "isn't allowed to make mistakes", how many turnovers would they have if they "unleashed" him, 100? What we saw today was a QB making his first ever NFL start without the benefit of playing with the starters in training camp or pre-season. It's probably the worst the offensive line played all year, and he was still less embarrassing then Sanchez.
He also had a new offense, no WRs and not the best playing O-line in the league to put it mildly. You cherry picked my comments to create the basis of an argument that I'm not having. My overall point was not to defend Sanchez's season as it's indefensible. I already said he regressed. I'm just trying to convey how Sanchez and the organization are a terrible fit. It's a win now roster, at least in their minds, with a still developing QB. The early success they had hid the fact that you usually can't develop a young QB and be title contender at the same time. Usually something got to give. The general practice has been to give your your young QB the leeway for a few years and endure the pain that comes that while you build around him. We did almost the opposite. Built a team, put him at the wheel and slowly started taking it apart.
Kerley should start its obvious he is the best QB on the roster. Nice arm, athletic and wasn't sacked and didn't turn the ball over. Jets would be a playoff team with Kerley starting.
Letting him make mistakes means not handcuffing him once he did. In his rookie year, we did the traffic light system and told him to manage games. In his sophomore year, we told him not to get too emotional positive or negative after good/bad plays and to not throw picks no matter what. Going into his 3rd year we bashed comletition percentage in his head. Now you compare what other teams do with their young QBs which is just let them play. You let them start, you let them struggle, and you figure otu what works/doesn't work. That means throwing away some games and even a season to get that experience. We never let Sanchez make them and learn. We just let Sanchez make them, then tried to avoid whatever caused them.
Andy Dalton,RG#,Russel Wilson,Ryan Tannehill,Andrew Luck,Cam Newton,Colin Kapernick among others walked into the league ready to play and all look like legit NFL QB's . Sanchez wanted to rush things he left college to soon for the pros and his priortys were never in order from day 1. Like Kris Jenkins said he cared more about Magazine covers and Page six then being an NFL QB and it shows on the field on Sundays. He wants to be famous so he dates famous chiicks Eva Longoria is the latest example. His priority isn't football and he doesn't deserve to be a starter anywhere bottomline he doesn't deserve anything he has gotten he is a fraud. He isn't a football player ,He doesn't eat sleep and breath the game like other succesfull QB's in the league and thats what leads to his play on the field. He hasn't earned the right to act like Tom Brady. He wants everything that comes with being a succesfull NFL QB but he isn't willing to work for it and take it. We made it to easy for him by giving him a huge contract then an extension with Mark Brunell sitting behind him for 3 years and we made him feel indispensable , At the end of the day when Mark Sanchez puts his head on his pillow he could give two shits about winning football games for this team im sure he sleeps like a baby while guys like Peyton Manning lose sleep over throwing a game losing INT
Way to early for that. His arm is average at best, but his pocket presence and mobility in the pocket is leaps and bounds above Sanchez. A lot of the 11 sacks are on him however, but he is still a 2nd year rookie. He was out all last season, so he only had this year with actual reps in practice.
LOL at how The Notorious J.E.T.S is successfully trolling y'all in multiple threads. Can't you tell that every sentence he types is the exact opposite of the truth? It's brilliant in its specificity.
That's revisionist history. I remember Jets fans begging for Sanchez to be allowed to throw more, so in his 3rd year the Jets put the ball in his hands and allowed him to win games, and we know how that turned out.
I thought McElroy looked pretty awful, but then every facet of our offense is offensive - the D on the Jets must hate being on the same team as the O.
