Everyone is saying "give Rex a competent QB and we will be great"... As much as I dislike Sanchez now, he showed signs of being a good QB in this league and was a young developing QB in the 20-26 range (in terms of ranking QBs). Within the last two years it is obvious Sanchez regressed a ton and his once seemingly bright future is no longer. A portion of that blame has to go on Rex. This team struggled to find its identity in the last two years and has struggled to put a quality group around the QB (including coaching). Due to Rex's main interest in the defense, personnel has in return reflected his mindset- defense 1st. If we draft another young QB, what gives you confidence that Rex wont fuck up on this one? Rex is the head coach of this team and has to realize that this offense needs to be fixed. Countless people realized this before the season even started and we are no NFL coach. Look at Jim Harbaugh- He's a great offensive mind and knows how to develop a QB, yet when he arrived, not only did the offense get better, but so did the defense and it has stayed that way.
Really? this is a a head coach who doesn't give a crap about sitting in on the offensive meetings. This is a coach who drafted "the terminator" and raved about his blocking skills only to cut him later in the the second year. This is a head coach who talks so much shit that he has become the clown of the NFL. This is a coach who continues to not take responsibility for how badly the Jets are and continues to profess that the Jets are a contending football team. The reality is that the GM knows nothing about football and intrusted all the drafting decisions to RR who has set the team back five years by giving away draft picks. His philosophy is antiquated for the direction that most NFL teams are going to, which is to have a high powered offense. His strategy which drives me crazy is to keep the game close and then win by a field goal. That type of strategy doesn't work because a bad break such as a turnover destroys that entire strategy. When do you ever see RR put the peddle to the meddle and go for the kill. He is more likely to run the clock out and hope to win by a field goal. What makes me more angry is the fact that we are slow and old at key positions and yet he continues to belief this team is a contender. Harbough made the switch from Smith to Kaepernick and Smith was winning games but Harbough realized a more explosive offense is the way to go. I can't stand RR and all his BS. This team needs to be totally broken down and rebuilt starting with hiring a new GM like Polian who knows something about the game and was not a cap specialist who did Woody Johnson's tax returns at the end of the year.
Rex is a Defensive coridnator. Isn't anybody mad, that he let the season go down the drain last week? A real coach would have made a change and done everything in his power to win the game. Instead we got 4 interceptions and a fumbled snap from one guy. He has the wrong mentality to be a successful head coach. What about the offense??????? Maybe he will talk Tannenbaum into picking more guys for the D?"? Rex is a clown, he embarrasses himself and our football team everytime he speaks at a press conference. A players coach who runs a loose ship with no discipline, and it shows when we take the field. This guy had his run, but it's time to move on.
I can go either way but sticking with Sanchez. Well that could be a challenge. As there needs to be changes. If Ryan wants to stick around. Maybe cut ties with Sanchez despite the big QB contract he signed.
A qualified yes. I think he's a great defensive coach, good motivator and average overall HC. Too many times though it seems like the team isn't ready come game time. Having said that, with this offensive staff, he has to get a bit of a pass. We need an assertive OC and Assistant Coach with a similar talent for O that Rex has for D.
In my opinion, we have to give Rex another year....look at what he's had on offense since he's been here....rookie qb, and shotty.....still sanchez and sporano....wow, how bad can it be!....Lets get Norv Turner here, keep sanchez on the bench, where he belongs!, sign another qb...i say alex smith, if we can swing that deal, cut tebow, trying to trade sanchez is a big task...Hey lets see what McElroy has in these last 2 games.....he may be the answer, or like i say, sign a qb in the off season, and open the job up during camp.....no way will sanchez win the job...Keep Rex!
Did you hear him during the press conference this week? All he did was take responsibility for not making the playoffs this year. I have never seen him once blame any of his players for any mistakes. Clown of the NFL? What has he said this year that makes him a clown? 'Mark Sanchez gives us the best chance to win'? That might be the only thing, but that's not talking shit. That's being optimistic to a fault. Setting the team back 5 years? Yeah, because we are so totally 1-15, 2-14 right now. Nevermind that if we had a different QB that is average, we'd be sitting at around 8 wins. Nothing wrong with keeping the game close. I don't care how we win, just so long as we win. Ground and pound with effective ball control really takes the wind out of an opposing offense and wears down their defense. It's ridiculous to think Rex Ryan is a bad or even mediocre coach. If you give him a good OC and a good quarterback, we're quick contenders.
Yes. Rex has shown again that he will get his team to go out and perform. His defense is still good even without arguably the best defensive player in the NFL and an offense that constantly keeps the defense on the field. Also, you can't keep getting rid of coaches.
Yes, Rex picked them both. Sanchez was average last year. Did Rex (or anyone else on here) expect Sanchez to go from average to terrible in half a season? As for the OC, Sporano isn't exactly a genius, but I wonder how much of his failure is due to Sanchez.
He picked the ingredients, put it together and cooked it. The meal did not turn out great. We have to evaluate if it is the ingredients, the process or the chef.
Rex personally foot fucked our chances of getting in to the Playoffs by sticking with Sanchez. Hell, he won't even give a reason for notrying to play Tebow. He deactivated McElroy after he came in and beat Arizona. There is no way in hell that he deserves to be brought back.
How often do GM's come in and not want to bring in their own hire? And even when GM's retain someone else's coach, it doesn't usually last long.
