Have you heard of the draft? That's where most elite QBs come from. In the recent era, you only have 2 elites QBs changing teams, one because of a strange injury and a guaranteed good QB coming up in the draft, and one who drafted another QB. (Peyton/Luck and Brees/Rivers). So like many other teams, the Jets are going to look for one in the draft. And in case you didn't know how the draft works, the team picks the player. The player doesn't choose. I know this sounds complicated, but the QB doesn't jump onto the franchise, they are dragged there through this thing called the draft. And we circled our way back to my original points, the Jets are in a position like many other teams, searching for that QB to be a quick fix. While yes, the Jets need to improve other positions, the QB is the priority.
So you're expecting this brain trust to draft an elite QB with the 14th pick? Or maybe trade up and grab... Matt. freakin'. Barkley.? You're circling alright. Circling the carcass of a dead football team. We may be looking at Cleveland Browns levels of ineptitude for years to come.
Well, that's not always the case. The team holds the right only for one year. If a elite player really doesn't want to join a team, he has the leverage to stay out for a year. When Eli didn't want to join Chargers, he threatened to go back to law school. Therefore Chargers were forced to draft and trade him to somewhere he wanted to go.
