Without going into a whole free agency plan, I think Braylon will be brought back making WR less of a need with a decent quartet of Holmes/Kerley/Edwards/Hill. I think they'll bring in a QB like Matt Moore who will wind up starting. I'm an advocate of cutting Sanchez with Mcelroy the backup. I would also not resign Keller, who I think it's a nice piece but will get paid more than his production. Assuming we pick around 14: 1. Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama. I was an advocate of Decastro last year and Warmack is an even better prospect. No matter who is the QB, the line needs to be improved, and the guard spots are the weakest links. 2. Zach Ertz, TE, Stanford. To steal a baseball phrase, the team has too many platoon players. Guys who are only capable of contributing at one phase. Guys can block but can't catch, catch but can't block, play the run but not the pass, too small to play the run, etc. Ertz may wind up passing Eiffert as the top TE if he declares and go higher than the 2nd round, but I think he could be a complete player and make the offense that much better. 3. Kevin Reddick, ILB, North Carolina. Program has had some success with LB's at the next level. He's a very good blitzer and would be one step towards adding the speed the defense so desperately needs. 4. Travis Long, OLB, Washington St. Not an impact pass rusher but could be another depth player in the Bryan Thomas/Garret Mcintyre mold. 5. Brad Sorenson, QB, Southern Utaha. BYU transfer, has some talent and good size. 6. Duke Williams, Safety,Nevada. Very unlikely Landry is back with what he's looking for contract wise. Team has Bush & Allen as young prospects but could use another DB. Sidenote, I think Aaron Berry might be back next year and would be a decent 4th CB. 7. Miguel Maysonet, Running Back, Stony Brook. Put up a solid season for a pretty good low level team. Probably a PS guy but could replace guys like Kahlil Bell at the bottom of the depth chart.
He single handedly dominated us Monday... I just dont get all the love for the MLB in recent mock drafts around here. We picked a young, high potential prospect MLB in the 3rd round last year. Why would we do the same this year? I understand David Harris isnt playing up to his pay and what we are used to seeing, but he's still solid nonetheless. Theres just so many other holes that I would like to see that pick go towards- for example maybe Leveon Bell in the 3rd, or Stepfan Taylor, or a developmental QB in Zac Dysert, or Quinton Patton. This offense is so dreadful, that I just see it almost impossible to spend a premium pick on defense unless its for a top passrusher or Manti TeO. I do really like the first 2 picks though. I think if we had something like Warmack, Ertz and Leveon Bell in the first 3 rounds it would do the offense wonders. Then next year you pick a QB while having some kind of foundation in place.
As a soon to be Stony Brook grad, I wholeheartedly endorse drafting Miguel Maysonet. But I'm probably a tad biased.
I think 2013 will be the last year Harris is on the roster, at least with the way his contract is currently structured. At that point he'll be 30 and cutting him will result in a a $5 mil savings. His play doesn't justify the contract he has and I think he's very replaceable.
I really like the idea of drafting a top offensive lineman in the first round, especially since there's been some signs of a pass rush between Coples and Wilkerson and the combination of Greene-Powell-McKnight has been getting better as the year goes on.
I think he's also very replaceable, I just think there are more immediate needs that we have to worry about rather than planning ahead for the following year after we cut someone. We just dont have the depth and flexibility to do that. As you said, he is very replaceable and simply signing an average vet to a small contract could suffice.
