After having 4 INTs and a fumble against the Titans, Mark Sanchez has 24 turnovers, and just 13 touchdowns, on the season.

    • Sanchez shouldn't be grandfathered in because of his pact. After setting back the art of quarterbacking 50 years in recent months, Mark Sanchez has earned nothing with regards to next season. And I mean nothing, despite an $8.25 million guarantee for 2013. No sane person would say, "Sanchez should be the Jets' starter in 2013.''

The prime rule of general-managing in sports is you don't compound one mistake with another. And whoever is the GM of the Jets in 2013 would be foolish to say blindly that Sanchez is the Jets' starter going forward. He's scary bad right now. Ryan Lindley-bad.

The GM and personnel czar and coach, whoever they be, must let the dust settle, then meet in February and determine if Sanchez should be brought back to compete for the starting job in 2013. That's it -- just to compete, and to be guaranteed nothing. And if the braintrust decides Sanchez is just too toxic, then the franchise has to bite the bullet and take the cap hit. Either wait until June 1, which is a better plan to spread the pain out over two years ($12.4 million in 2013, $4.8 million in 2014), or take the $17.1 million dollar whack all in 2013.

I laugh at those who say, "You can't take that cap hit! It'd kill your team!" Here's the question: Would you rather exist with $109 million to spend without Sanchez on the team, or $121 million with him? I think I'd lean right now to bringing him back with a new offensive staff, if not a new staff in total, with one veteran, one rookie and Greg McElroy to compete starting in spring minicamps. And if it's not working, then cut him June 2 and take the hit. But the only way I'd bring him back is with the clear understanding that he's in an open competition -- and the competition could end before training camp.

Do we spread the pain over 2 years? or do we take the 17.1 million dollar whack in 2013? Any thoughts?

Impulse says cut him now. However, there is no harm in waiting until camp to get rid of him. Allow Mark to compete under a new offensive staff (at least) and see what he has.

Sparano has been every bit of atrocious as I expected him to be as your OC

Not just Nacho. Just throw away 2013 season. Good old spike years.

If Jets spike 2013 and unload their top 10 most expensive guys, they will have 100M to spend the next season. (Ok... almost. But it will be thoroughly substantial - as in, over 70M even with Ferguson and Mangold still on board.)

yes, truly sane people that undrestand this game have seen the jets nearly reach the SB w/ Mark Sanchez so we know he can play and win in this league. Truly sane people understand we had no weapons this season and to take such an astounding cap hit then have to pay another QB a ton will cripple our team for years to come. You bring in a vet QB(sort of like Jason Campbell type last year) to compete w/ Mark, if mark wins he's got his last shot. if not he's a high paid backup for a year and we move on.

And that is what I was saying ... people want to cut him out of frustration and some misplaced sense of ego.

Keep him on the team for now ... he has talent. His 2nd year proves he can play at an above-average level. I think Sparano was as inept as all of us Dolphin fans thought he would be.

There is no advantage to cutting him now. Allow him to compete in the offseason. If he makes it - great. If he doesn't - oh well.

People have to also remember he played most of this year w/ Kerley, Schilens, Gates, Cumberland, reuland as his main weapons in the pass game. it would be difficult for Brady to have succes w/ that group.

I don't think we should blow it up and I think RR deserves a shot with another QB. We need a new QB badly.

You Still don't get it Junc, He's NEVER been good. Not just this year, not just last year, not just his first two years. He's NEVER been good. He's always taken crappy care of the ball, 50 Turnovers in two seasons. He's had only 1 season where his interceptions and fumbles were below 20, and then just barely. He's had 1 season where his TD's exceeded his interceptions and fumbles. He's only completed 55% of his passes or more ONCE, and that was only 56.7%. Playing in the most pass friendly league in history he has never been accurate. He's slow to deliver the ball, still stares down receivers and far too often leaves his receivers hanging out to dry.

Leading the team to two consecutive AFC championship games? Bullhocky. It was the Defense and picks off of Rivers that allowed the Jets to proceed to the AFC championship, that and a big run by Greene.

He's had exactly 1, 1 good playoff game where you could say he "carried the team"...one. But in both seasons the team lucked in to the playoffs with Sanchez almost costing them playoff births in both 2009 and 2010.

good quarterbacks make those around them better. Bad Quarterbacks make good players look like dirt. Sanchez has NEVER made a player around him better. NEVER, but he's ridden on the backs of a lot of players better than him.

Recall Peyton MADE the likes of Garcon, Tamme AND Collie into respectable receiving corp. (But then, that's why he is Peyton Manning - I'm just saying, you can't throw the "WE DO NOT HAVE WEAPON" as an excuse. Good QBs raise the level of those around him. Sanchez fails that - you cannot deny this.)

Have you seen Garcon in DC? all 3 are/were very talented players. They weren't Chaz Schilens/clyde Gates types.

Peyton has had elite level talent around him since day 1 in this league.

Peyton is the best QB of his generation so it's not fair to compare what he did w/ Garcon, Tamme and Collie. I look at what Atlanta has done for Matt Ryan and SMH over what the Jets have done for Sanchez. The Falcons have brought in guys like Tony Gonzalez and Julio Jones to team w/ Roddy White while the Jets have let guys like Edwards and Cotchery go. I would have liked to seen them keep his core guys together and I think he would have developed. IMO.

he was vital in all 4 playoff wins, if we get a Philip Rivers like performance in any of them we lose.

if you don't think he was vital at SD I question what you really know about this game. Don't be an average fan that just looks at QB ratings.

Truly sane people know that he played within his limits those two years. He's at best a game manager. Why would you give the keys to a guy that's AT BEST a game manager? We need more upside than that. The downside, as we've seen the last two seasons, is too big. At his worst, he's a turnover machine that causes his teammates to play worse, fractures the locker room, limits the development of skill position players and most importantly, loses games that this team should win.

This guy has very little upside. If a guy doesn't develop after 3 years, he's not going to develop. AT BEST, he's a stop-gap measure worth $1 million a year. Giving "one last shot" to a guy like that is the stupidest move this organization can make.

junc, you need to stop being prideful and realize this guy for who he is. A below-average QB with very little upside.

He is a disappointment in the respect of where he was drafted. Any player drafted in the top 5 is expected to be an elite player in the league.

Whatever you may think of Mark, he is certainly not an elite player, nor lately has shown flashes that he could be lately. In year 2 I will admit that he looked like he was going to be that franchise guy. I say this as a fins fan.

Maybe another coaching change could do to Sanchez what it did to Alex Smith and be the ultra game manager that minimizes the gamechanging mistakes.

Junc, you don't have very much credibility on this topic given your obvious lack of objectivity about Sanchez. The defense and running game absolutely punished the chargers that game. He picked his spots to throw. That's what a game manager does. That was at his BEST. He's not the guy, move on.

What are we arguing about? If Sanchez was at any point decent or progressing? Who cares, guy is a bust. We whiffed badly there.

Guess that "terrible" .gif was spot on. I don't know if I'd take Mark Sanchez over Johnny Skelton right now.

I give Sanchez his due credit in some of those playoff games, but overall he's always been average AT BEST. He's NEVER been a good QB, and he never will be. At least we know that the Jets realize that they have a problem at the QB position and are starting the steps to correct it.

there have a been countless bad qbs to "almost get their team to the superbowl". the reason they havent gotten/won it is because their QBs are bad.

sanchez is the worst QB in football over the past 4 seasons. and he wont be here next season, unless its as an inactive emergency qb.
