I don't know about anyone else, but I'd love for the Jets to get another crack at the Patriots. Seeing the look on Brady's face last night... we handed him one of the worst losses of his career, I'd love to have a chance to give him another!
I voted no, but back when we were 3-6 I would have voted yes. Funny how things change. Here's to another big win tonight to keep the hope alive!
But that simply disregards how insufferably bad this team is. And saying we could win out when the Steelers probably won't isn't comparable at all. If you and I were boxers and you went up against three heavy weights and only won one of three matches, whereas I beat the snot out of three 12 year olds, would I be better than you? Of course not. If anything, just standing in the same ring and fighting well against good opponents makes a statement that beating a 90 pound weakling does not. A win is a win, yes, but any old win does nothing to indicate how good a team really is. Fact is we lose to good teams and beat poor teams. When we lost we have had some major catastrophes. When we win we have done so largely by thin margins (or sheer horrid/good luck). Scraping by against shit opponents does not scream Super Bowl contender. But hey, we dominated the Bills....
As a (long suffering) Jets fan I can honestly say this: How could you possibly be the fan of any unsuccessful franchise without indulging in a modicum of delusion? Do you really think that the Cubs or Red Sox fans should just say, "screw it". The Red Sox eventually got their moment and the Cubs might in the 22nd or 23rd century. Every sport is the same. How about the Cards? Or the Pats before BB or BP? Or worse, the Lions. They all hope for a SB, like us. For years that was delusional, but you hope and support your team. Otherwise you might as well take up contact knitting.
I have to admit, I'm glad it's over now...this kind of 'football' is just getting too annoying to watch.
It's over for me, but I'm excited for next year. I can watch some real football without Sanchez under center.
Not at all. If I were going to stop watching as soon as I knew we weren't playoff contenders, I would have tuned out the minute Revis tore his ACL. I love watching the young guys play. We really have something special in our two DEs. Jeremy Kerley has been the least spoken of pleasent surprise in the past few years. Its too bad Hill got hurt, because his progression was fun to watch. However, Im torn about how I want the season to end. I want Rex as a coach for a long, long time. If we go 8-8 that means in 4 seasons he took us deep in the playoffs twice. Fuck what the haters say, if you've never had a below .500 record and 4 playoff wins in 4 years, you're good. Real good. At the same time, I think Vick is the best possible QB candidate, and he's stated (if the Eagles really do go with Foles) that he wants a starting job. I'd like Sanchez to throw five picks in each game and make it abundantly clear that the Jets are looking for a starter. Im also drooling over Mingo or Jarvis Jones. Jones will go mad early, but Mingo we have a shot at. The way I see it, we got extremely lucky the past two drafts. Coples at 16 and Wilkerson at 22. Lightning does not strike three times and a truly gifted OLB rusher and a healthy Revis I believe would put this D back over the top. Especially as Ellis, Wilk, Q, and Demario continue to progress.
Off topic, and No disrespect meant. Really.... I know in hindsight everybody wants Doug Martin But... Dude, Im always SHOCKED at the amount of hate Coples gets on this website. Forget that he's built like Julius Peppers, and lets look at what hes already done with his short time with the Jets. he had 3 sacks coming into this game, I know he had that one big one and I feel like he was in on another one. Not sure. First let me remind you, he barely played, for whatever reason in the first four games. Rumors say it was an attitude thing or some bullshit. So lets say he gets one or two more... he'll have about six maybe seven sacks rookie year. Which is above average, and consider this. Most of the times he rushes its a 3-man rush. Pouha's not a threat to get to the QB so you can bet your ass he's getting doubled. Even when the Jets do blitz, he's still the focus. Nobodies afraid of Scott or Pace anymore. All the sacks they get can be attributed to Wilk and Q drawing doubles and still getting push. He also really has no fucking help. If we get Mingo or Jones I guarantee you Qs numbers will skyrocket. Why does JPP (who incidentally has about the same number of sacks as Q on the season, a little more) get so much pressure? Because you have to worry about Tuck and Kiwhatever and Osi. With us it's really just Q and Wilk (who is more of a run stopper anyway). Teams know that. He also has a lot of TFLs. Just as good as a sack in my book. And lets just even fuck the stats. I saw him get in Lockers face like four times tonight. He plays with intensity. He had great speed for his size, I've already seen him run down a few backs our LBs couldn't catch from behind the line of scrimmage. Could he be more mature, could he be smarter? Yeah. But he's 21. Im 21. We'll grow up. I just hate seeing a ROOKIE who's having a great year get shit from the fans because they're pissed at the team. What's his name from ESPN had Coples going 9 to Carolina. Like I said, if he didn't wanna stay and get his degree from a top 30 school in the nation he was projected even higher as a junior. High like maybe #2 or #3. We absolutely made the right pick and we absolutely got lucky. If Ellis can get his shit together (He has good NT potential, we just haven't seen enough of it) I truly believe if the 3-4 teams, a couple years down the road, we'll have the best front three in the NFL. That's the silver lining for Jets fans.
Just to prove my point about Coples... Only three rookies that went early in the draft have more sacks than he does, and they all have it way easier. Two of them were unavailable at 16. Fletcher Cox has 5.5. He also plays alongside of Cullen Jenkins, Trent Cole, Jason Babin (before he got cut), and Brandon Graham. He also wasn't available, he went 12. Bruce Irvin had 8. Which is amazing for a rookie, but he's an OLB edge rusher on an extremely aggressive seahawks defense. Again, he wasn't available for the Jets. He went 15. Which I remember being weird because he was projected as a late second rounder. Ill give the Pete Caroll this, he knows how to put together a goddamned good draft. Probably from college experience. Still hate the Seahawks. Now the controversial one is Chandler Jones, with the patsies has 6. No doubt he's a great player, but I dont think he would fit as either a 3-4 DE or an OLB. He's a 4-3 guy, and a damn good one, but I think that's why we didn't draft him. BTW I remember reading this site when we were up for our first pick and the fans were really clamoring for Ingram or Upshaw as OLBs. Ingram has .05 sacks and Upshaw's riding the bench. We made the right call, I believe with ALL of our first three picks. Every pick after that was terrible except for Antonio Allen, 7th round whim.
Are you sure? I thought he was at least in the 20s. Its cause we get no love in Temple, even though we've been consistently improving since I decided to come here. That's crazy though, the 2011 draft even sucked especially if Im remembering tight. Mad busts. I'm looking at it now... I truly think Wilks the 5th best player in that first round class. Or at least close to it. The only ones that clearly surpass him are Von Miller, AJ Green, Marcell Dareus, and Pat Peterson. Those were all like top ten picks too. Mad busts in 2011. Our luck is changing.
