Maybe but if they want be part of a conference that has your school in it then you should not object to it because your school would have the chance to expose them for the "fraud" they are. Apparently they are sick of getting low tourney seeds and feel they can improve that by playing with better schools.
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/s...e-leave-big-east-debating-process-source-says Notre Dame was supposed to stay in the Big East for a 27-month period, which could mean as long as the 2015 season. But the Irish have been negotiating an early exit. Brey also said the discussion among the Catholic schools was to make it a national Catholic conference with Xavier, Saint Louis, Dayton, Creighton, Gonzaga and possibly Saint Mary's, as well.
What's funny is watching the meltdown by BYU fans knowing that they won't be included even though they swear that they will be. I've heard 12 teams and had ND not been courted by the ACC they would have been part of these 7 schools.
Maybe not the mostr reputable source but it appears Butler and Xavier will join the Catholic Schools http://www.sbnation.com/college-bas...er-conference-realignment-big-east-catholic-7 Xavier University and Butler University will reportedly be joining the Catholic 7 schools that are breaking away from the Big East, according to Michael Hunt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The Musketeers and Bulldogs, who both play in the Atlantic 10, may be joined by either one or three other schools to form a new, 10-12 team, basketball-centric conference. Those teams are reportedly Creighton, Virginia Commonwealth, Dayton, and St. Louis. Georgetown, St. Johns, Seton Hall, Marquette, Providence, DePaul, and Villanova decided to break away from the Big East on Thursday night, after years of friction between the basketball and football sides of the conference and a revolving door of Big East football membership. The addition of Tulane earlier this fall was reportedly the breaking point for the basketball schools to pursue forming their own conference. The addition of Xavier and Butler, who has been to two consecutive Final Fours, would make the new basketball conference one of the best in the nation. The new league is expected to begin play next season.
I wouldn't object to it at all. I am saying that Gonzaga would never do this, as they are guaranteed a 4 seed every year, and have to play an in0conference schedule that measures up to your average high school. Why risk losing that?
I tend to agree, but if you love college basketball, you should be fully supporting the efforts of these Catholic Schools.
Read an interesting idea. 15 team conference, 3 divisions. Play a home and home with the 4 other teams in your division and one game against the other 10 with home games alternating year to year. East: G'Town Nova St. John's Providence Seton Hall Central Depaul Xavier Marquette Butler Dayton West Gonzaga St. Mary's Santa Clara Creighton Univ. of San Fran
Brad Stevenson is one of the greatest coaches. How they keep pulling off upsets is amzing, even when there 2 best players fouled out and blew 7 pt lead and went to OT and still won is crazy
Rumors are the next wave of realignment will be after the bowl season. Wouldn't surprise me to see what's left of the ACC merge with what's left of the Big East at some point down the line.
That's the pipe dream. The more I think about it, the less I think it actually happens (not that the ACC implodes, just that the ACC would become a hybrid conference). Only way that happens is if the remaining ACC schools really want to become the elite basketball conference. Have a hard time any conference would purposely become a hybrid, other than for Notre Dame. ND is its own animal, and they would leave the conference if they lost their bowl tie-ins, I would have to believe.
No but what I think you are going to see is the Big10 make a move for GaTech and Virginia. Th4e Big 12 is going hard after Florida State and probably Clemson. That leads me to believe that Cinci and Uconn will both be in the ACC. I think the Catholic Schools stay independent from the ACC and take some A10 teams.
Exactly. I could see Virginia & Georgia Tech going to the Big 10, Florida St and Clemson to the Big 12, and Virginia Tech & NC St/UNC to the SEC.

I could see that happening, but I'm looking from it from a Villanova perspective. Even if all that happened, I still have doubts they would make it a hybrid conference with basketball. I don't see any moves happening involving the major conferences until the Big Ten or Big 12 decides to expand again. ACC doesn't want to add any of those teams but would if it were forced to. And no, I'm not counting the Big East as a major conference.
