Landry if he stays healthy these next 3 games will get a pretty big payday from someone but I dont think it will be us,,, as the jets in my eyes cannot afford him,,,,,,,now if we somehow manage our cap space better and throw a lot of money at him,,,that changes. I say let Landry walk. The guy has played great football this season, but he's battled serious injuries and inconsistency throughout his career, he's not the kind of player that a cap-strapped team should make a serious commitment to. If Landry has a change of heart and wants to take a hometown discount, then by all means bring him back. Otherwise, we can't afford the risk.
would you sacrifice a revis singing to wrap up some of these other players we need in key roles? we are performing well without him in pass D.
The only chance landry comes back is that the Super Bowl is in jersey next year, and woody becomes hellbent on getting there
This is a good argument for trading Revis. We're top 5 in pass D without him. We have too much cap space tied up in him. We could trade him away for a bunch of draft picks, free up some cap space to sign LaRon and Cromartie. Revis' trade value might be lower than it usually is given his ACL injury though. I think either way, we're in for great pass D for at least a few more years
I have to kind of doubt it, although it's not totally unrealistic. Bart Scott will most likely be gone next year, so theres some $$. They will have to decide how they want to structure the defense, because Bryan Thomas most likely retire, and although Calvin Pace hasn't been terrible he still is way overpaid, so he may get cut, opening up more $$. That leaves 3 new starting spots at LB, now one could be taken by DeMario Davis, but that leaves 2 OLB's. The truth is that signing Landry might actually be the smart thing, because if you strengthen 2 corps out of 3 that actually sets up your D to be very difficult to exploit. Basically we would have Wilkerson, Coples, and Ellis starting on the line, with Pouha and DeVito for depth. That is a 3 man front that could genuinely create some havoc and at least 2 require a double team for most o-lines. Then you have Revis and Cromartie outside shutting down most 1-2 wideout pairs, and Kyle Wilson covering a slot guy. With Landry crushing guys across the middle and blitzing, our LB corp doesn't necessarily need to be our strong suit. If we were to take an OLB first round (which I don't think we should do if we sign Landry) that would be a nasty defense. If we did sign Landry I would turn towards an offensive lineman or RB in the first.
Wanted to ask the same question Revis will want more money very soon, Cromartie is making 11 mill then next 2 seasons and our pass D is playing well. What would it take to trade Revis?

You can't have three high priced secondary players on one team. Revis, Cro and Landry all signed long term would take up $30 million per year or 1/4 of the teams cap space. That is not realistic.
Seriously, everybody expects every player to be an all-star. He is not the most physically talented but he knows the system and is solid depth. You can't have a roster of 53 pro-bowlers, each guy has a different role. People just like to bitch and moan about every single player it seems.
He's good as a 46 safety. Rex found a good situational niche for him on defense. He's just not a starting caliber safety.
Tanny has to worry about Landry's durability big time. The type of injury he's had (Achilles) is the type that puts you on IR for the year. Can Tanny afford to invest huge dollars in that position when he already has huge dollars tied up in Revis and Cro? If Tanny gives Landry the bank, and Landry gets hurt again, Tanny will have exactly $zero$ dollars left to bring in anyone else to replace him. That's a big gamble. We'd play out the year with Eric Smith and someone worse than Eric Smith. Do we really want to go down THAT road again? Landry is an example of a great player most of us never heard of before who's willing to come to NY to play for Rex Ryan. Players love Rex, so either Landry will stay here for less (what other HC gives players a day off every week), or some other good player we never heard of will love to come in and take his place. This is when having Rex matters.
having rex really doesnt matter that much. never heard of the guy? seriously? never heard of him as an all american at lsu? the number 6 pick in the draft? immediate starter, guy who took over for sean taylor when he was murdered? i cant believe you watch football and never heard of laron landry.
