I think because of the development of our D-line, the improved safety play and that of Cromartie would make our team a playoff team if we had just an average offense even without Revis. Of course his return will be more than welcome regardless.
wilkerson has been the one real bright spot for me this year. he has really come out and played well pretty consistently this year. landry has played well, cromartie has played well. beyond that nobody is all that fantastic on defense.
IMO it makes one of the two expendable. I love Revis, don't get me wrong, but it gives us a bit more flexibility. Especially considering he is entering a contract year coming off missing a season, he will probably want some kind of extension. If he's asking for the moon then we can stick with Cro and do the unthinkable: move on from Revis. If Revis can return to form and we can sign him to a contract extension that works for everyone then we can think about moving on from Cro, hopefully trading him. I love both of those guys, they are great. But considering how solid our defense has been with only one of them (the lesser of the two, at that) it may serve us better to sink the resources from one into the offense that is clearly struggling. According to nyjetscap Cro is signed for two more seasons after this one for a cap hit of over $10mil in those two years. Can you imagine if we took that value and put it towards a legit feature RB?
"Muhammad Wilkerson has best season for defensive lineman under Rex Ryan" "Wilkerson finished with three forced fumbles, 70 tackles and five sacks. The analytical site Pro Football Focus graded him out as the second best player at his position behind Houston's J.J. Watt all the while playing solely as an interior pass rusher. In total, he had 22 quarterback hurries, four batted passes and just three missed tackles." Someone in scouting sure has a great eye for DE talent! This comes from the NJ site.
I know that it was Rex who went to the UNC pro day to evaluate Coples and ask him to perform OLB drills as well as DE drills.
Mmm no..but like any head aoch in the NFL he will have input on player evaluation. Is this a surprise?
We already know the answer to that. The guys all meet together and discuss the options but Tanny had the final say. Landry was a wet dream for Rex, so you know he was pushing hard to get him.
No love Karl Dunbar? I hope Rex doesn't get the can next season ... it would seriously make me nervous for Coples and Wilkerson
