The 9ers just started running it 4 games ago. Yes wash and Carolina won yesterday, but they both are not in the playoffs right now. Just like a Tebow fan duck the question. Next answer?
The reason I posted it in this forum is simple, it has "Tebow" in it, which was to save the mods the trouble of moving it once they saw the name "Tebow" in it. As JfJets pointed out, you are wrong as far as what was said about the Read Option. Last year, most were talking about how it wouldn't work in the NFL. "This is the NFL, you can't run Option." "It's assignment football, Dive, Pitch, Catch." "NFL defenses are too fast and too smart." Etc, etc, etc.
Because that's pretty much ALL the Broncos were running. That statement holds true if that's all you try to run and you aren't getting good passing production from your QB. Washington has a QB that consistently completes all kinds of passes. They aren't just running the option - it's a wrinkle of their's. The smart NFL defenses aren't catching up because they could run a read option, or they could complete a deep corner route to the sideline, etc... It's much much different than what we saw in Denver last year, where an offense was severely limited by their QB, so they ran ONLY what he could run - read-option runs with the very occasional deep pass.
That playbook was a reflection of their lack of faith in their QB. He couldn't pass worth a shit. The Broncos knew it. Didn't take long for the other teams to see it on tape, they knew it. They offense became about as predictable as a Piston Honda jab. Why? Because their QB severely limited what they could do.
a) Because Manning said he wasn't coming to Denver with Tebow on the bench right behind him, you can book that and b) Manning has never been known as the kind of guy to help "develop" the guy behind him. Jim Sorgi? Curtis Painter? Where are they in the NFL right now? I would love for you to show me where on this forum any Tebow supporter has ever said - even one time - that Peyton Manning isn't that good. I'll be waiting. They did, specifically with receivers and tight ends that Manning had chemistry/history with. If Manning didn't think his success and the success of the team depended in part on him having familiar targets to throw to, then why exactly did Denver sign those guys??? That might also tell us what he thought of having Decker and Thomas (aka, guys who dropped a lot of passes last year) be his 2 primary receivers.
A. He SAID that, hus? Where? I assume you have proof of this? I heard a rumor that this might have happened, but that hasn't been proven. Even if he did, I wouldn't blame him. Last thing we needed was the Tebowners getting in the way if Manning struggled early on, and he did as most of us expected seeing how he still had that nerve damange and his last game was over a year before that. B. Poor example. Sorgi and Painter were NEVER drafted as a potential replacement for Manning after retirement. When they wre drafted, the idea was that Manning was going to play for another decade. Developing a QB of the future simply wasn't the goal. With Manning's salart, they likely couldn't afford a competent backup anyway when they had so many other needs. NOW the Broncos drafted one for down the road bacause Manning really was only expected to play maybe 3 or 4 more years. Signed him for 5 years just in case, but we all know how that goes at times.
I won't argue that the playbooks are much different. Then again, I'm one of the guy's who thinks that McCoy did a terrible job last year. A number of us on the Denver forums were screaming that he should have run Spread Option. As noted in one of the other threads, in the 4th Q, when Denver spread the field and let Tebow air it out, he did very well. They should have been doing that the entire game.
We can't dog our Jets they won..lol So all us haters got together and decided to hate on Tebow some more.
Faster, more athletic, better arm, more accuracy... The Option works when your QB works. Pretty self-apparent.
Yeah, Tebow isn't going to run any 50 or 72 yard touchdown runs any time soon. Especially now that they aren't worried about him throwing the ball. Just keep the 8 men in the box, stay in their lanes.... BAM!!!! Another three and out. I'm coming around to the idea that the spread option can work in the NFL... but you gotta have the right guys for it. Helps if you have a QB that doesn't shot put the ball into the 14th row when he tries to "throw" it. A run/pass threat is an AWESOME weapon. A QB that can't pass... well, he ain't gonna do much. He'd be kinda like a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.
Tebow's deep ball is very good, but that's the only thing that Tebow has going for him. His short to mid range throws still need to be improved. Like...a lot. But with that being said if your QB just throws deep balls all the time, it would be very easy to adjust to it early as opposed to having to adjust to it in the 4th quarter when you have a tired defense who has been playing the run the entire game (and have been prepping for the run in practice and in their gameplan)
I think like everyone else said, the argument was Tebow couldn't run it. RGIII is going to be a pocket passer by the end of his career. THe article said that the Panthers actually had to dial back the read-option for it to work better. In addition, all these offenses have a very effective passing attack. Look at Washington for the best example. (SF has a great D and OL, something most teams can't afford. Sanchez would be a successful QB with the 49ers, that's how stacked they are). RGIII has to be very accurate. The read option lends itself to wide receivers getting single coverage underneath and RGIII has to place the ball and hit them in stride. His throwing ability is great. He's more of a pocket passer who runs because he is athletc. The read option with Tebow is different, relying more on the run and the deep ball to offset the single coverage. It's a very hit or miss offense, very streaky. It's easier to build an offense around a consistent, accurate QB, something Tebow isn't currently. He can become one, but he's at the point where most NFL teams probably don't want to go all in on him. Also the authoer makes another good point about injuries and the rules. The NFL favors short passing attacks much greater than any other offense. The QB is protected below the knees and above the neck. The wide receivers are protected from any big hit going over the middle. This all favors the short passing game which in itself gears itself to the more accurate QBs.
Tebow doesnt bust 50 / 72 yarders. Also ... didnt he get hurt twice already. ribs both times if im not mistaken. QB's take too many friggin shots as it is. That hit on rg3 was close to season ending and possibly had him out until mid next year.
No, the argument wasn't that TEBOW couldn't run it. The argument was that the Option wouldn't work in the NFL, PERIOD. As for injuries, QBs are just as susceptible to injury while in the pocket. That's where Tebow's injury occurred in the Pats game.
mmmm... just looked it up. Kaepernick has 1 int in 192 attempts and 2 fumbles. Not bad for 4.5 starts. Seems like he has a pretty good upside to me. That accuracy is pretty astounding for his delivery which is very long.
1 40 yarder in how many attempts? Kaep has two 50+ and a I think another 40 already in 4.5 starts. Newton probably has a few more as well. Tebow doesnt have the same skill set as Newton, Kaepernick or RG3.
