Our receiving core is super young and inexperienced but I think to be honest they've done pretty well. Everyone like Gates, Kerley, and Schilens all have had some big catches.

Do you think this is something to build off of? Dare I say move holmes for a draft pick(s)?

Talking about Holmes specifically, I'd say he'd be worth trading for if we can get somewhat equal value back. He is definitely the one on the roster with the highest ability at that specific position, but I find his character too much of a problem to not take advantage of a trade - especially with, as you say, some of the younglings showing some promise this season.

That's always the upside when top players get injured - you 'force' rapid development in other players who need to step up, so when Revis/Holmes can play again, you will have a much improved team further down the roster (except for those who didn't develop despite increased responsibility, of course).

But just even contemplating what Holmes would've acted like or said in a season like this, I'm pretty sure no-one would ever even consider him in a trade, so I just feel there's an opportunity to get some value from him. If we keep him next season, I'm pretty sure he himself will make a perfectly good job of completely devaluing himself.

Holmes isn't even a true #1 caliber WR.
Gates, Kerley and Schilens are all at best 2nd/3rd tier #2's. None of them will ever develop into more than that and given the state of the team, QB position and coaching staff, I highly doubt any of them even reach their potential.

That being said, I drop Holmes like a hot potato if I could.

Kerley has the most upside .He reminds me of Cotchery - good hands, good routes, tough, reliable.

No one else in the receiving corps is worth anything. Hill obviously comes back, but the team needs to show off that blazing speed the drafted him for. he has been a deep ball disappointment.

bring holmes back and our wr crew looks a whole hell of a lot better. i would have to agree with this thread. everything considered, things look like they might be ok at least at wr going into the future with holmes or another legit number 1.

and holmes not a legit number 1? bullshit

Kerley has been tremendous. He's at least a good slot receiver and a keeper.

Hill has gone downhill from week one for sure... But given where he was at coming out of college, we couldn't expect him to not be raw in his first year. Hopefully he continues to develop and becomes a player, but he has some tools. I don't see why they don't throw him more deep balls. It worked quite well against Buffalo, but I don't recall many attempts since then. That's the kind of player he was at GT. Why not utilize those strengths? I'd like Sanchez to air it out to Hill and give him some shots to make a big play, maybe like he did Braylon here and there a few years ago.

We haven't seen too much of Gates, but he does seem to get a lot of catches and apparently has some speed. I'd keep him around this and next year and see what he's got.

Schillens has been pretty quiet and doesn't look like more than spare WR... I recall a couple good catches, but more drops.

I don't think Holmes is going anywhere with the salary he's due. And on top of that, he's a character risk so I don't see him going anywhere in a trade.

I feel better about this group of WRs mainly because of Kerley and knowing that Holmes will join them next year. Unless Hill starts showing more promise between now and next offseason, I'd look to add a mid-level veteran receiver in free agency

Yes its something we can build off of. the doomsday crowd is flat out wrong, there is solid talent there to develop.

All these threads with "should we trade xxxxx player for draft picks." Who's going to give you those draft picks? The Jets picked up Holmes for a 5th. Do you really think that he has proven that he is worth more or even equal compensation? That's the problem with these trades we'd have to find someone else to trade with. There's just no real value to other teams for any of the Jet's players. Revis might get us something but coming off a season ending injury and about to want to cash in (again) is going to f that one up too.

No one will want Holmes coming off a season ending injury and his ghettotard attitude.

Fuck this "raw" bullshit people keep posting about with Hill, he has to learn how to fucking catch. A receiver who can't catch is worthless.

If he could catch they would have at least 1 more win, probably 2.

I would wait on unloading Holmes for the simple fact that once we get a good QB be it McElroy, Tebow, or someone else. The receivers need a chance with a competent QB, just look at how well they did with Sad Sack Sanchez.

You know what's really funny? Stuckey, cotch, and Braylon all have done nothing since leaving Sanchez as QB. Gates had done nothing before getting Sanchez as a QB. It shows you that a system could be as important as a QB for receivers

Ehh Sanchez was #1 in RZ efficiency without them, but it shows you the connection between WR and QB. We had a good connection the first two years, and now the QB and WR are struggling without each other. WE actually had a decent match it seemed.

Realistically we have Hill and Kerley. Not so sure about Schillens or Gates really. We have Cumberland as a pass catching TE also. We could use another WR in the offseason because I believe both Gates and Schillens are one year deals. This is Schillens first year healthy I believe, Gates is really really fast but has trouble running routes. If we can get him to run routes, could be a solid #3/#4 guy. Schillens also has potential and is a big guy also.

If we keep Schillens and have Hill, as we know from SD, our receiers would be so tall nobody could cover them!

In the offseason I would love if the Jets could pick up Jerome Simpson, he's a young veteran that can stretch the field and can make caches. You throw in a healthy Holmes next season, with Kerley and Hill. That to me would be a solid group of WR's.

Kerley is legit. Gates and Schilens are crap and part of the problem imo.

Jury still out on Hill but he has mad dropsies.

Kerley has looked very good so far. He has a couple of drops every now and then but everybody does. He has turned out to be very reliable. He is one of my favorites. Gates hasn't played that bad and Chaz has dropped a lot of big passes. Hill has dropped a lot of passes but he improved last week by catching every catchable ball thrown to him. Hill has a bright future if he can improve on his route running and catching.

The Jets current group would make for solid depth.

The Jets need a big time deep threat receiver. Someone tall and fast who draws double coverage.

I'm not counting on Hill to be that guy any time soon. He needs to prove it before you can bank on him.

Out of the very few bright spots on this team, I feel the receiving unit is one of them. Young and with a quality QB or a better Sanchez, can be very dangerous.

Kerley has really emerged as something awesome. Hill will just need more playing time under his belt and he will get it. Holmes, when he's healthy.

We may not have a receiving unit to win SuperBowls right now, but they are young and emerging. Something we've needed for a long time.

Hill needs to get more practice at running routes and stop dropping the ball but has the ability to be a good receiver. Kerley has been impressive. Gates is nothing worth anything. Schillens has been crap.
