Word out of Miami (and Rotoworld) is that he's not going to get a long extension and might not even be worth franchising for the 1 year. Apparently, his game has dropped off a bit. NYJ Right tackle in 2013? Austin Howard might certainly be better than Wayne Hunter, but is Howard a long term solution????????? Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, it would cost the Dolphins $15.365 million to use the franchise tag on LT Jake Long in 2013.It's a ton of money for a player whose effectiveness has waned in the face of nagging injuries. Long is currently on the shelf after he sustained a triceps injury Sunday and could be done for the season. Schefter is the latest to suggest that Long may have played his final game as a Dolphin because the team can't -- or doesn't want to -- pony up that $15 million. Rookie Jonathan Martin projects to get a tryout at left tackle over the final four games. Dec 3 - 11:16 AMSource: ESPN.com
This guy is going to be the FA prize of the offseason if the Fins don't tag him and the Jets won't be in any position to land him. If the Jets somehow could land him of course we'd LOVE to have him at RT. That would make our offensive line dominant.
I have been against big FA signings in many offseason threads, but if we could somehow land him, makes our offense worlds better. Sparano connection too? I highly doubt we have the money to do this
He has been playing like shit this year and has been injury prone as of late. He is a damn good player but not for the money he will want.
It may be out of our price range, but RT is still the weakest link on the line. If they don't draft an early RT, that might be the way to go.
lol are you guys serious? Do you realize how much $ he is going to want? And you want to pay a RT that much? He will be a LT and a highly paid one
Jake Long expected to become a free agent However he has a $15.3 million tag on him, what do you guys think? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/12/04/jake-long-done-for-season-maybe-done-for-miami/
Jake Long is a Left Tackle. The Jets are in need of a Right Tackle. Some team, whether it be Arizona, Buffalo, the Giants, Philadelphia - someone - will give him a big contract and allow him to be the franchises' Left Tackle for the next seven years. There is less than 0% chance Long is a Jet in 2013.
Agreed. Games are won and lost up front. Sanchez needs protection, if we're sticking with him, that should be #1 priority. #2 would be RB or WR.
So you guys really want to pay an injury prone, penalty machine RT 8 or 9 mill a year? Or is the idea to put him at LT and move Brick to RT? Either way, both would be bonehead moves. If that happens, good luck with your Super Bowl goals in 2013
