St John's laid an egg yesterday!

ESPN Insider had this to say:

St. John's 16-point loss on the road to San Francisco last night was both disappointing for the Red Storm and revealing.

It's evident that the Johnnies have a lot of improvement to make on both sides of the ball. SJU lacks a 3-point presence (they made only three against the Dons), is among the very worst in the nation at rebounding its own misses (its 23.4 offensive rebound percentage ranks No. 334 nationally per KenPom.com), and their shooting a poor 63.6 percent on free throws (No. 283 nationally).

And that's just the offensive side of the ball. For all the young talent Steve Lavin has brought in recently, St. John's looks to still be quite a ways away from being a real contender in the Big East this season.

I don't blame the offense as much as a the defense. SFU had wide open guys for three all night. It was really terrible.

They were 9-15 from three. Not gonna win with that. On a bright note, Sampson is going to be a monster. Hopefully he stays two years.

He'll be reinstated just before the Carolina game.

Nah, it's not bad bad. It's a tough loss. They weren't even favored in the game. It reminds me a lot of the opening game two years ago @ St. Mary's. They lost that game and ended up making the tourney.

It smells like a bad loss, it may end up being an ok loss. It's so early that RPI is useless to determine the value of it but I would have thought they would have won that game.

I guess to me, a bad loss is a game I thought we should have won and didn't. I didn't think we'd win.

The West Coast Conference is a pretty decent conference and The Dons will be a middle of the road team. We're a top 25 team and we struggled on the road against Portland. Granted Moser didn't play and our talent won that game but just hope that SF doesn't lose to Loyola Marymount who lost to Alaska-Anchorage. It looks like a bad loss but it's not terrible.

They did just lose to Temple by 15 last night so I guess we should give him some slack today.

Did anyone catch the Florida vs FSU game? Florida looks really good, almost scary good.

It's early and it's a long season but to me Duke - Florida - Indiana all look really good. Everybody else I have seen need some time to get it together.

They didn't lose by 15 to Temple. They got blown out by 15 against Temple on their home campus arena.

4 years ago, this would be front page headlines. Now, Jay Wright has managed to lower expectations for this program so much, that not only is it acceptable, its expected.

I forgot to add the word "wish" but apparently it was all a rumor about him getting fired. Sorry.

Temple is a good team. They were favored in that game. And yes I just made your point by saying they were favored over Nova in the game.

The thing is the longer this goes without Wright turning it around at Nova the more fuel his decentors have to get him out of there. He started so strong that it will take a while to get rid of him but I still think he can and probably will.

Have a pretty good source that the rumor is 1000% not true.

With that said, for as good as they looked in the first half the 2nd was pretty brutal last night.

No I don't, I think he is a good coach that is having a few bad years. I think he got some bad recruits who did not pan out for him. That can happen to any program. I think he will turn it around but time will tell.

Who do you want to replace him with?

I love when people ask this question. By this logic: Carnsecca, Thompson I, Dean Smith, and Bobby Knight all should still be coaching.

I want to replace him with someone who has a different philosophy. Someone who recognizes that there are outher positions on the basketball court besides the guard position. I want somone who demands effort and takes accountability. I want someone who is capable of making changes, both in personel on the court and strategy, at halftime when your team is down 10 points.

Is that a good enough answer?

Hey, there are a bunch of good, up-and-coming coaches right now, I just thought you may have one in mind.
