This is probably what happened: Conversation between Rex and Tanny. Rex: I'm thinking about starting McElroy. I won't say I know Mark is finished here, but he sure looks like it. Tanny: So you don't know Mark is finished? You do know that if he's finished, so are you and me. Rex: How's that? Tanny: Woody knows we both picked him. We gave him that extension after we could not get Peyton here. I wish Mark was not such a pussy, but we knew that about him a long time ago, and of course he was going to totally cave without that contract extension. Rex: Yea, I know that's what would have happened. But you really think that means we go down if Mark is finished? Tanny: Yes I do. And it's not just the contract. You could have sat Mark after that awful performance against the fish, but didn't. You rode him until the season was over in any realistic sense. I know I was all for keeping him in, but Woody knows you agreed, and left him in. We're tied together here, make no mistake about it. And if I go, who says you would stay? Rex: So you're saying if McElroy plays, we're both finished here. Woody: Yep. You gotta play Mark and hope he does well enough that we don't get fired. Rex: I see. Okay. And do I still have to play Vlad, too? Hey, if we get out of this, we're going to have to pay more attention to the roster next off season. It was nice taking most of that time off last year, but I'm just saying. Tanny: We'll see. Just play Mark and hope for the best.
Only looked up the last two years. Would you look at that. But yet people still want to start him... Sanchez's balls must taste soooooooo goooooood. How else can you justify starting him? Starting McElroy would have saved Rex his job.
Who cares? To everyone who thinks its good Sanchez is starting because he will bounce back after being benched ... WHO CARES! Wake up people were not making the playoffs!! Wins mean nothing at this point. If anything losses are better. This is when a good coach would start a third stringer to see if there's hope for the future. But no not Rex. This is the worst move Rex has ever made and I hope it gets him fired. GIVE THE KID A CHANCE WE HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE!!
From what I see, Mark biggest issue is that he doesn't release the ball quick enough. and he is getting worse. I am sorry to hate on another Latino but he's just doesn't think fast enough to play at this level. He doesn't read defenses, he doesn't look off safeties, he is not accurate throwing the deep pass. He is back up QB at best and our biggest nightmare at worse. And we are getting a big cup of the worse right now.
Not surprised by the decision to return Sanchez as the starter. Honestly, Rex and Tanny know they're fucked. This is more about Sanchez and his salary in addition to the fact that we are most likely not making the playoffs meaning people will be fired this offseason.
Mark's biggest weaknesses......Doesn't read defenses properly and locks in on his primary receiever. Panics when the pocket colapes and makes stupid decisions under pressue. Wears his heart on his sleeve and let's teamamtes and fans know he's rattled and has lost confidence
rex comes from a long lineage of football minds. i'm gonna defer to him for talent evaluation. he knows what he sees in practice
Guess which team we didn't beat? Oh yeah the good one. I'm willing to bet McElroy got zero first team reps all week.
I have never understood why a team statistic is the best measurement of one individuals performance, but for the HC?
I hope this is a bad smokescreen. In fact, I think it is. I think Rex wants to distract the media, but in reality it is McElroy who will start.
All you are mad for no reason, honestly. Anybody could start at jets qb on Sunday and we'd still have a high chance of winning. Sanchez deserves a shot at redemption. We now know that management is not afraid of benching him if he starts fucking up.
It is by no means a riskfree proposal by Rex; if sanchez chokes again he will look incredibly stupid.
but if he sucks so badly how did we win any of those games? and if you think the fumble at Bal was his fault you don't know what you are watching. the game is about winning not fantasy stats which can be skewed. I want to win, I don't wnat a top fantasy QB. You can keep Philip Rivers, I'll keep sanchez(pre '12)
All of you that are saying playing Sanchez is good for a draft pick this is for you: do you honestly TRUST the front office to make the correct pick and evaluate the talent whether we have the 1st pick or the 32nd pick? I don't.
