This guy is an unbelievable talent and lightning quick. We don't get to see him play much because majority of us live in the tri-state area, the Cardinals do not get much media coverage, but that game he played vs US (Jets) was awesome. We have been so spoiled by Revis and Cromartie, I feel like we just lose sight of some of the other really good corners in the game. Before anyone starts attacking, I am not saying hes on the level of Revis. Not to mention this kid is still a KID. Will look forward to seeing him a lot more in the future.
agree and once again supports the notion that in order to have a top 5 defense u absolutely have to have 1 shut down type corner - regardless of ur defensive philosophy.
Not sure what you are implying here. Are you saying he has little worth to his team because they lost 8 straight? Are you somehow turning this into a "Jets should move Revis" discussion? Are you saying the CB position has little value to a team? He has definitely had great impact for that defense which ranks 7th in points allowed, 3rd in passing yards allowed per game, 2nd in defensive interceptions. Arizona problems are not on defense, they lack a lot of parts on the offensive side, particularly QB. I could careless how the Cardinals perform, I think Peterson is a phenomenal talent at age 22. Not only as a CB but a dangerous return man.
I'm saying that in the greater scheme of things having an all-world CB is about as important as having an all-world kicker. Is he a plus? Yes. Does he lead you to wins? Not really. Not unless everybody else is up to the task also. Paying him a huge amount of money is throwing said money down a rathole because if you do that you can't afford to pay other more impactful positions what it takes to get a top rate player to play for you. Champ Bailey. Nnamdi Asomugha. Darrelle Revis. Patrick Peterson. That's a who's-who of great CB's who have never sniffed a Super Bowl. Peterson even came onto a team that had been to a Super Bowl recently but they immediately declined. Deion Sanders went onto two teams that had won multiple Super Bowls before he arrived. That's Darrelle Revis path to a Super Bowl if he really wants a ring. Take a pay cut and go play for his home state Steelers.
And those guys have as many Rings As Bruce Smith, Jared Allen, Julius Peppers, John Abraham, and D-Ware Combined. See great pass rushers are not important. ... Or there is more to football to your severly narrow view of things.
Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Frank Tarkenton, Warren Moon, Dan Fouts Ladanian Tomlinson, Eric Dickerson, O.J. Simpson, Earl Campbell, Barry Sanders Cris Carter, Randy Moss, Charlie Joiner, James Lofton, Steve Largent Apparently neither QBs, RBs, nor WRs are important to winning a Super Bowl.
Look at where the superstar CB's are. Look at where the superstar QB's are. In one place you find championships almost every year. In the other you find a lot of also-rans and frankly some quite terrible teams. Where you find a top 5 CB winning a Super Bowl you also find one of the top 5 QB's. You also find a lot of top 5 QB's winning Super Bowls with nothing approaching a great CB on the roster. This just isn't disputable at this point. If you're a fan of Darrelle Revis it is an uncomfortable place to be but it's reality. When was the last time the best QB in football failed to make the playoffs? It happens often with the best CB.
skill position players definitely always overrated, and this should be considered when giving out contracts.
