Braylon Edwards says 'blame the idiots calling the shots' for Mark Sanchez's struggles

Braylon Edwards (17) and Mark Sanchez celebrate together back when Edwards was a Jets wide receiver.

William Perlman/The Star-Ledger Braylon Edwards has apparently weighed in on the Jets three-way quarterback controversy.

In a Tweet posted early Tuesday morning on Edwards' official page, the former Jets wide receiver said (sic): "Don't blame Sanchez. I played there. Blame the idiots calling shots. Mark is a beast and will probe it when given a proper chance."

Edwards did not specify who the "idiots" were that he was referring to. By all indications, Edwards had a close relationship with head coach Rex Ryan.

just 2 short years ago we had Braylon, Holmes and Cotch as our top WRs and Sanchez was excellent. You need talent to win, right now on O we don't have enough of it.

Sanchez was FAR from excellent two years ago

And Braylon hasn't done shit since the Jets let him go.

Braylon hasn't been healthy and sanchez was excellent, a major reason why we won 11 games. I know the fantasy #s don't tell you that so you think he sucked but he was excellent.

I like Bray. He loves the New York Jets. He was a better fit in our system than pussy boy holmes (who i could tackle). Kerley is better than Holmes. Hill has potential to be much better than Holmes. Schillens not so much.

The same bricks err, hands that caught an 80yd TD pass against the Colts in the 2009 AFCCG, or the same bricks err hands that caught a huge pass that set up the winning TD to Holmes against Houston or the same bricks err hands that set up the GW FG against the Colts in the 2010 AFCWCG? C'mon now. He had a couple of bad drops, but he was a big time player for us and elevated Mark Sanchez's game. We should have NEVER let him go.

its funny so we have a guy who if i remember correctly nobody wanted and is now not really even playing and a guy who was a 4th stringer before he got forced to play because of injuries and then himself got injured.... and the talent level was AMAZING when they were here.

yeah yeah ok, if you say so. i wish we hadnt traded cotchery but to say he is talent solely to support your absurd argument is absurd.

He has struggled since leaving here, but there's no denying his impact on our offense when he was here. There were many people that didn't want him to leave, including myself.

he was always left with one defender and almost never a safety over the top, simply because we had a good running game and nobody had any fear of sanchez. if you see he hasnt done so hot since leaving. it worked 5 or 6 times that year. there are about 60 plays a game though.

i dont hate the guy but...

the guy has always had bad hands, he still has bad hands and will always have bad hands. you cant deny it.

I don't think Braylon dropped a pass in 2010 but b/c a ball bounced off his helmet in Buffalo and he had some drop problems in Cle he's perceived as a guy w/ bad hands just like you perceive mark as having a bad year in 2010.

top 10 type QB in 2010, he was a key for us. Brought us back late numerous times after defensive failures and had a mediocre run game most of the year after the hot start by LT.

you have no clue what you are talking about. AGAIN, I don't think he had a drop in 2010 and he has not been healthy since leaving us.

Are you kidding?? The play against the Texans had a safety over the top. Before Holmes got here he was our clear Number 1 receiver and always had coverage against him.

I've seen Edwards make many catches that most receivers couldn't even attempt to. So he had a few drops in 2009. He had maybe 1 in 2010. You over state him having bad hands.

It wasnt his hands, it was more concentration issues. He'd make an unbelievable catch then drop a gimme.

Sanchez and Braylon were well on their way to becoming a very strong tandem.

He had 1 drop in his last season as a Jet. WTF are you talking about?

This guy is seriously backing the front office. You know this article, really should hurt us as Jet fans, so quick to blame the QB, but the FO did an absolute horrid job on developing this team.

Edwards only had one drop 2010.

Also teams double covered Edwards rather than Holmes. Holmes dropped off when Edwards left.

Edwards worked in our system. It happens. The NFL is not a one system fits all players environment.

Sounds like a guy standing up for a friend, which is admirable in its own way.

Wow . . . you really need to take a step back and analyze your blind devotion to Sanchez, because frankly, it's outright delusional. We all watched the games too, junc . . . the guy's play was no where near "excellent", by any objective standard or metric. He was a below average quarterback that year, just like he is now. I believe he was second to last in completion percentage that year, and perhaps more tellingly, in four of our five losses that season, we FAILED TO SCORE AN OFFENSIVE TOUCHDOWN - (and he was absolutely putrid in each and every one of those games).

Yet we still went 11-5 and were one half away from going to the AFCCG. Sanchez got us into the playoffs.
