but but but but but but... joe flacco didnt "lead" his team to 2!!!!! count em... holy grail AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES!!!!!! and lose them both i might add. im just trying to prepare you for what is coming in talking about joe flacco and mark sanchez. its coming its just a matter of time.
I never said it was an exact duplicate of what you guys did or that we would win a SB just that Coughling lost the team, you were in turmoil, Eli was floundering and it would have been easy to give up on Coughlin at that time. w/ all those leadership councils and everything else they still barely made the playoffs, had an up and down year, Eli threw 23 TDs w/ 20 INTs so it wasn't a smooth season. Remember, Coughlin was about to get fired if they didn't make the playoffs in '07. Anyway, the point is you don't give up on talented people too quickly. I am not saying we will win SBs but I believe we'll have chances to do so if we keep the current regime in place. We need to make changes, maybe scouting, maybe the power structure but we don't need to clean house. That would be a huge mistake. As far as Sanchez, he hasn't hit his ceiling any more than Eli did when he threw 23 TDs and 20 INTs in 2007. He doesn't have a Plax in his prime, Bradshaw/Jacobs, Toomer, Cruz, Nicks, etc... when he had comparable weapons he was a top 10 type QB in 2010 and nearly led us to the SB. The difference btw you guys going in '11 vs. us losing in '11 was on an incredibly close play they ruled the Sanchez play a fumble and on an incredible close play they ruled the Bradhsaw play a non fumble. Change those plays and we go in '10 and you are home in '11. Not to mention in both title games turnovers set you up for the GW scores.
Going into last year, Flacco only had 4 of his top ten receivers from '10 come back. This notion that he's had more continuity at receiver than Sanchez is not supported by the facts.
Mark Sanchez has never had a Ray Rice, Mark Sanchez has only had a comparable WR corp for 1 season(and he was just as good as Flacco that season) and he's been a MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better QB in postseason. Put Mark on bal and they'd have at least 1-2 SB apps since 2009. Flacco has been a better reg season QB, Sanchez better postseason. Up until the last 3 games last year they had comparable seasons in 2011 but since that point Flacco has been much better but he's also had much better talent around him.
Bro, I admire your loyalty to the guy and your conviction in your beliefs, but please explain to me why everything is "if"? If not for this, if not for that - the fact is those things did happen the way they did, and no 'if' is going to change it. You don't know whether things would have gone differently after the 'if' - unless you are a quantam physicist you are unqualified to predict what would have happened next. In the world of 'ifs', the Jets are leading the NFL in all time Super Bowl victories.
we've doing doing the things the way the average fan wants to do them forever- meaning hiring and firing coaches every few years and cleaning house. How about we try it the way successful teams do it and not get rid of everyone at the first sign of trouble?
Sanchez has 1764 passes attempted now for a 55.3 completion percentage. That's kind of the definition of sucks in the passing friendly NFL. He's averaged 6.5 yards an attempt. That's another sucky stat. His career QB rating is 73.7. It's true that Eli was in similar places at this point in year 4 but as others have pointed out because one under-performing QB straightened out and fixed his career does not mean all of them will. 95% of people in that situation won't. They'll just keep sucking. Is a lot of this on the Jets? Of course it is but we've all worked for bosses that made us look bad at one point or another and staying with that boss didn't help things much, did it?
I don't care about #s, any knowledgeable fan knows Sanchez was MUCH better than his #s 2 years ago and key why we won 11 games and made another title game. It's hard to win in this league, it's impossible w/ a bad QB. We nearly made 2 SBs w/ him, the man can play in this league no matter what the fantasy #s tell us.
ok, he used to be able to play in this league but the hope is he will be able to again at some point.
There are only two things that matter for a QB. #'s and wins. Lately, like for the last year, Sanchez has been short on both sides of the "what matters" equation. Before that he was just short on the #'s side. I know it's hard for you to see this because you're a diehard Jets fan with unusually strong opinions. However for most of us it is clear that Mark Sanchez checked out near the end of last season and has only been back in form occasionally since then and only against bad defenses. He really is cooked. He hears footsteps. He doesn't take care of the football in the backfield. He forgot what play was being run against New England, turned the wrong way on a hand off, thereby creating a broken play. He then ran straight into his own man in the middle of the field and fumbled. That's just a freak show of bad QB play. Mark Sanchez is the only reason that the Jets gave up the ball there in the middle of one of their worst sequence of events in franchise history. I like the guy. I have been a big supporter of his in the past when things were going well. I have little doubt at this point that what's past is past. The super team is not going to magically assemble around him to make his contributions relevant at this point. Instead he's going to lead the Jets to losses with a heavy helping of his own bone-headed plays helping that along. At a certain point you have to smell the odor and realize that something has died. We're there.
lately he has been, I can't argue that but do you want to give up on him already? I think he deserves one more year, if this continues we move on.
Excellent! I think this is why Rex keeps him in as the starter. Mark looks great in practice, when no one is going to hit him, but during a game he panics every time someone gets near him. Starting Tebow or McElroy, even if they are not as good in practice, would give better results in a game.
2 afc champ games IMO those 2 afc cham games were a result of mangini's formation of the club. He built a pretty solid club but i feel he did not know how to game plan to take advatage of that talent. Now that rex and a capologist are picking the players our team has steadly declined. Its pretty obvious that the player selection process under this group is poor to mediocre at best. Who can we get to help pick players? IMO that would be the best thing that could happen to this club going forward.
Being a player in the NFL is a thing of inches (queue Al Pacino). I don't see Sanchez as terrible on every play or even every play in which he is pressured. I do see him as a guy who just doesn't have the inches he needs to get the job done. I wish it were otherwise.
There's an Eva Longoria joke there somewhere. But you're right and I've said it before, he looks brilliant on some drives, horrid on the next. At his best, he's as good as anyone playing IMO, but we don't see his best often enough and when he's bad, he can be very bad.
you dont care about the numbers because the numbers crush you. if they were the other way around you would love them, but they arent and they are proof that your boy sucks, just like herm sucked and proved it here and again in kc. although all these years and 4-12 seasons later you still wont admit it. ok so back in the glory days when marky mark was playing like teh king of the world even though the numbers say otherwise he was 9-7 and barely made the playoffs and then an 11-5 wildcard team. thats 20-13 over that glorious period which is pretty decent but not 14-2 back to back. the TEAM had one good year and won one big game in your glory period and has now fallen back to mediocrity 2 years running and will probably not make the playoffs this year. so and im going to use your word here "IF" peyton manning had played the second half in indy in 09 marky mark would have 1 playoff appearance and only 1 season over .500 (IF we dont win all of our remaining games)
I care about winning and we have won a lot w/ him. I KNOW my team can win big w/ him if we surround him w. the right pieces. I don't worry about meaningless fantasy #s.
