I knew this this thread would get created! Ha Ha. He is No better then Sanchez really. I used Smith as comparison against Sanchez in a past post. I speculated that since Smith had appeared like he turned the proverbial corner , that it was possible for Sanchez to do the same. In retrospect it appears to have been wishful thinking on both fronts. It is also apparent that Harbaugh much like Rex has some players he inherited and doesn't want. Not his guys!! Smith is probably a goner even if Kaepernick doesn't work out but I wouldn't want to see him here.
Smith is a product of a really good team and a bad ass coaching staff. He comes to new york he will go back to sucking the almighty hoagie.

Smith is total dog shit and I would not want to see him as a Jet. That being said, he is much, much better then Sanchez - but we'd be better off with Mcelroy or Jesus.

He's a solid game manager but a superb running game, coach, and defense make him look MUCH better than he actually is.
As long as he's got a good OL, defense, and running game, he's a great game manager (terrific at not turning over the ball). That being said, there's a reason their FG kicker had a record-breaking season last year.
Agreed. I'd rather see the Jets draft a QB to compete with Sanchez than bring in a borderline-out-the-door-for-the-past-who-knows-how-many-years veteran.
Absolutely no trades involving draft picks. Whether it's Sanchez/Tebow/McElroy, Jets need to bite the bullet & keep their picks. This team desperately needs productive players on rookie contracts. There are JAGs all over the starting lineups with a sprinkling of players topping the league in salary @ their position.
Yeah, this roster has the look of a 4-12 roster right now. The Jets look like the Arizona Cardinals of the early 2000's. Playing Jake Plummer we have Mark Sanchez. Santonio Holmes is David Boston although not really that good. Michael Pittman's stand-in is Shonn Greene. On defense you have good to great players in the defensive backfield and in short supply elsewhere.
Haha funny you mention that because I was actually comparing Nacho to Plummer two years ago and it was meant to be a compliment. In all seriousness we're stuck with Mark next year. There just isn't a viable alternative (Smith/Sean Hill/Flynn not an upgrade. Draft is highly suspect). So if we're going to concentrate any more resources next year into offense we should worry about a real running back and a possible RT/RG upgrade. I'm one of the few that actually thinks our receiving core isn't all that bad. Kerley is an emerging playmaker and Hill will make progress next year. Holmes is probably gone next year, and if not for sure the year after, but it doesn't matter because so is Nacho. Keller needs to be re-signed and we need to explore options for an actual stud RB. Powell is nice as a change of pace, but Mcknight will never be a real threat outside of teams and Greene is as good as gone (he's only still here because he's getting paid nothing).
I really don't need to see another terrible season at this point. If the Jets go into next year with Sanchez at QB and without big upgrades around him they're going to go 4-12/3-13 something in that range. We're seeing this weird offshoot of David Carr syndrome with Sanchez at this point. Carr just gave up and started taking the checkdown and making the safe throw every time. The Texans gave up on him after a year in which he completed 68.3% of his passes. He was going through the motions at QB and they realized it and made a change. Sanchez on the other hand hasn't given up but his play is getting worse and worse under pressure and the pressure is coming more often than it used too. If he just understood the concept of acceptable losses the Jets would be much better off than they are. Instead he keeps trying to make plays where none exist and taking sacks and turning the ball over in the process. There's nowhere for the Jets to go with him at this point. He's in Richard Todd-land. Even if the Jets rehabilitate him every turnover will grate on the fans. Even if he does good things far more often than he has in the past and turns the ball over a lot less every turnover will be a groan from the fans. Good QB's throw interceptions and occasionally fumble the ball. The fans understand that and for the most part they just accept it. With Sanchez, like Todd, the turnovers have become so painful for the fan base that he could throw 30 TD's next year and 10 Int's and if one of the Int's really cost the Jets the fans would be booing when he came off the field. We've seen this before.
the only one is michael vick he would actually be a really good fit if rex truly wanted to return to a run first team but he is too turnover prone
In the last two years Smith has turned the ball over far less than Sanchez. That alone is an improvement.
