im not fully understanding the greg mcelroy not having a strong arm in all the highlight videos ive seen, kid has a cannon if needed
NFL coaches don't experiment just for fun. It is apparently crystal clear that the backups can't hold a candle to Sanchez which is the crux of the Jets problem. They essentially have no depth at any position (not that many/any have depth at QB in reality).
Tebow... yeah there's the whole changing the offense but obviously whatever we are doping on offense sucks anyway. If Sanchez really does give this team the best chance to win we truly are fucked until he is released.
With a slim playoff hope alive, you got to keep the starter (Sanchez) in for at least one more week. When and if they are eliminated from contention, then give the back-ups time.
I vote for Tebow. I'm not a born again Christian and I'm not crazy. The JETS coaches have put zero effort in trying to figure out how best to use this guy. They did it in Denver last year, so why can't the vaunted JETS offensive guru, creator of the wild cat, figure out how to leverage the obvious talents and leadership abilities of Tim Tebow? All this guy has ever done, is win, He finds ways to win. He's like Doug Flutie, he's got something intangible. I dunno, maybe its too late but considering the product we currently see, it has to be worth a try.
Start the Kid... What do you have to lose? We're not making the playoffs. Tebow is injured ... and Sanchez well
The Jets are trying to develop 2 or 3 future WR, Sanchez should continue to start and develop those guys. Putting another running back behind center is not the answer to rebuilding this team.
The biggest problem with this offense is very, very simple. We turn the ball over way too much. Limit turnovers = wins. This defense is good enough to keep us in it if we don't give the other team free points. We're 2nd to last in the AFC with 24 giveaways. Sanchez is responsible for 15 of them (11 ints + 4 fumbles). Tebow, for all his faults, doesn't turn the ball over that much. Put the guy in and let him drain clock and let the defense win for us. That's how this team is built.
Rex will start Sanchez. Sanchez is shitty but unfortunately he's the best QB on the roster by a wide margin. As Fans, we can call this season a wash and just say fuck it try someone else, but Rex Ryan is not in a position to do that. Rex is playing for his job. Woody might be digging his axe out right now, but would have no problem giving it to Rex if they tank out the rest of the way. With a team this terrible, downgrading at the QB position making it worse than it already is, would be even more disasterous, and likely would put Rex on the unemployment line. He would be stupid to play anyone but Sanchez at this point. I'm not saying I'm happy about this, We will probably see this a lot the last 5 games. Rex needs to finish strong to keep his job, he's not in a position where he can comfortably work in younger/lesser players for the future, because he might not be here. Outside of Sanchez this means we probably won't see him work in guys more on defense over his starters, etc. He needs to finish at least 4-1 so he's going to do what's necessary to try to do that. BTW, I'm a huge NON-believer in Tebow, but if it did come down to it and he's healthy I'd certainly rather see him than McElroy. Tebow might not be an NFL QB, but at least he's an NFL athlete --- McElroy barely belongs in the league. He would be TERRIBLE with these WRs. Imagine Brooks Bollinger playing with 3rd string WRs - OUCH - this is what it would be like.
This. Sanchez gives us our best chance to win and he's got another year after this one guaranteed in his contract. Benching him now would only be detrimental as he needs this time to build chemistry with his younger receivers and continue to learn the system. Rex has already said he's sticking with Sanchez, and it's the right move. If we were planning on dumping Sanchez after this season, it might be an option, but at this point with his contract, that's not going to happen.
It shakes things up. Is Sanchez the only problem? No, but he sure as hell is a big part of the problems. I can't stand Tebow as a Quarterback, but I would rather he play than Sanchez. I would like to see what we have in McElroy the most. Anyone that watches the games on TV, can see that he knows what is going on. He is pointing shit out to his coach for Christ sake.
Ever notice how no teams we play really try to hurt Sanchez? It's because he is there option to win , so why would you mess that up. QB's throughout the league are getting their bells rung, but not Sanchez. What a strategy!
Posted this in another thread but just as relevant here. Ryan simply cannot play McElroy or Tebow at this point. if he does and either one is successful it just further exemplifies how poorly Rex can identify talent. it is lose-lose for him. you cant continue to say Sanchez gives us the best chance to win but then risk McElroy or Tebow turning around the season. if Sanchez gets benched it will be where the backup can only succeed for a game or two and any greater success is just speculation.
That's a great point. How bad would it look, if Rex has been doubling down on Sanchez, when he had a better option on his roster?
1. If I am benching Sanchez now, I am offloading him this offseason as well. 1-1. If that happens, I will get a cap hit of some 10+M. Only the stupid one will follow this route. 2. If option 1 is not happening, I am starting Sanchez regardless of what happens in the next few years - even if I do select a QB in the draft. Sanchez will provide that few year's cover so that QB prospect can watch and learn. 3. I am leaning heavily toward releasing Tebow after this season. McElroy will be the backup unless he wants a starting job somewhere else. (Good luck, son.)
Yeah you're right, I don't think you watched him against the Pats last year in the playoffs did you? This team needs more than a QB change, they need an offensive philosophy. Please don't say ground and pound, I have never heard a more simplistic approach of an NFL offense(hence the trade for Tebow). The rest of the league is moving to a more passing league but we have the "The secret Tebow package"we'll show em. Rght
What does a cap hit have to do with this? We can unload dead weight and trade him. We have to rebuild and Sanchez in no way should be a part of that.
