So the owner of a sports franchise held a meeting with his staff because they weren't performing up to expectations?

If this wasn't the New York Jets, how would this be a news story?

What kind of an idiot would bother to thinks this is newsworthy? The team needs to win the game and the offense sucked yet again last week. I hope Woody told them they'd all be fired if this continued.

Woody: Alright guys, I think you both know why I've called you in for this meeting today. I ...

Tanny: (interrupts) You can't fire us right now! I'm seeing meaningful progress with this team I have faith that Rex can turn this team around.

Rex: Yeah I mean obviously I'm always going to do what's best for the team and I honestly believe that we're just a couple of plays away Mr. Johnson. Obviously ...

Woody: (interrupts) Shut the fuck up guys. Let me finish. You thought I was going to fire you? I don't have a "plan B". I called you in to ask why the fuck you haven't been playing Tebow like I deman(cough) requested. He should be our starting QB right now. He was one of the best college QB's evar. He single handedly beat us last year and he single handedly beat the best defense in the NFL in the playoffs last year!

Rex: Fuck that! Have you seen this guy throw the ball? I mean, obviously he's a great athlete and all that but he winds up like he's throwing a fucking javelin when he's trying to throw the ball. He nearly took out Revis in a sideline interview in the preseason trying to hit a simple fucking swing pass.

Tanny: We leave no stone unturned Woody, this is a process.

Woody: We've scored one offensive touchdown in the last 9 quarters of football guys. Sanchez isn't getting the job done. And why the hell does he think he is Roethlisberger back there trying to throw the ball as he's being taken down? Tell him to cut that shit out, all it ever does is result in a fumble. Maybe I should fire you assholes.

Rex: I believe in Mark Sanchez.

    Woody: WHY?

Rex: Because I DO. THAT'S WHAT I BELIEVE WOODY. I BELIEVE THAT.

Woody: If you guys lose to the Rams this week, I want the post game press conference to announce we're going with Tebow at QB. It's the only way we'll have fans in the stands for our prime time Thanksgiving game.

    * woody walks out and slams door behind him. *

I'm going to be 3 sheets to the wind by the time that game kicks off on Thanksgiving. I hope this will ease the pain.

I got 9 tickets when the season started for face. I checked last night, and I could have gotten the same tickets for $35each now. It's already going to be a ghost town in there.

Well if WJ would have made the NYJs priority one instead of making Romney priority one we may not have been in the pickle we are in now & for the forseeable future

Cleveland is a nightmare owner scenario, shortly to be resolved as the team is sold.

The owner is the most important piece of the puzzle on an NFL team in terms of success. It's the hardest job in sports, because there are so many limiting factors, like the cap, incessant injuries and the vagaries of the NFL draft process.

You can be a great owner by being hands off and hiring great people. You can be a great NFL owner by being very involved and creating a great system that can then be manned productively by good people. You can be a great owner by being very hands on, although there haven't been many of those as the NFL has evolved from a clubhouse game to the corporate model.

But you have to get it just right. Being hands off, like Randy Lerner, only works if you hire the right people at the right time. Mike Holmgren was just too old and inexperienced in the job of running an NFL team to be a good fit. If Lerner had handed him the same job a decade ago the results might have been different. It didn't help at all that Lerner briefly became very hands on just long enough to hire Eric Mangini as coach the year before Holmgren came on board.
