He's such a little girl, then has the audacity to be like "YEAH SCHOTTY GET SOME" on Twitter. That wasn't the first game Holmes has ruined for the Jets.
Umm, that was last years team... didn't work out. The kid's an average QB who surrounded by enough talent can be slightly above average. That doesn't win you a lot of SB's. We didn't put him in position to fail, we gave him the opportunity to step up his game, so far he's failed. He has a defense that will keep the team in most games for at least 30 minutes, all he has to do is keep the ball for the other 30 or a little more. He doesn't have to score huge points, just manage the game, control the clock and not turn the ball over. He hasn't shown he can do that consistently, yes he can beat other 3-6 teams, but there aren't enough of them on our schedule for us to make the play-offs.
I don't understand, how is having the best defense ever put the qb in position to succeed. Jim McMahon had the greatest d ever. How did that help him throw the ball? He had Gault and Walter. Min today's salary cap NFL, spending all the money on the d side of the ball is anything but putting the QB in a position to succeed. Drafting AJ Green is putting a qb in position to succeed, drafting a 3 down back puts th web in position to succeed. Drafting a project OL does not put him in position to succeed. Not having an NFL caliber backup center does not put him in position to succeed.
If the Jets had really been interested in having Sanchez succeed above all other things they'd have spent a bunch of draft picks layering in the pieces around him to make that happen. I think what really happened with him is that the Jets decided to let Rex draft a defense. That was their over-arching aim in building the team and right now they are short just a couple of players in terms of having a great defense. The offense is a disaster area, but that's understandable given no 1st round picks used there since 2009 and the players that have retired or gone free agent since then.
We didn't need to draft pieces to put around him. We HAD the pieces around him. Sure we should have added depth to the OL and maybe add players like Kerley and Powell, but we had Cotchery and Edwards who we let go. These two players were incredibly valuable to the offense and had great chemistry with Mark. Letting them go for two washed up veterans and the decision to keep the locker room divider (Holmes) were the decisions that hurt Sanchez and the offense.
The biggest mistake the Jets made was trading up to the 6th pick to draft him. If he would have gone in the second or third round where he belonged nobody would be complaining. The bottom line is you trade up to get the Andrew Lucks of the world not the Mark (TRENT DIFLER CLONE) Sanchez's of the world. His talent will never live up to the time and money invested in him no matter what they surround him with. There is no coaching away bad decision making and Happy Feet. It is his fourth year what you see is what you get. And our schedule is so weak he could rebound the next six games and it will amount to more fools gold for 2013 because we will not upgrade. Sanchez will be gone when we get a killer schedule and he totally falls apart.
Jets haven't supported Sanchez at all with the guys around him and the playcalling. But at the end of the day, the guy is a total pussy and just can't handle this league.
There is a reason why someone (his name escapes my mind) took a shot at Jets front office, basically saying: If there is ever a book on how NOT to raise a young QB, that book should be named [The Jets.] ==================================================== This is my gripe - probably too old-school for today's NFL, but off I go anyway. 1. I am against starting a rookie QB under any circumstance. This is probably why I am against drafting QBs with 1st round picks, unless otherwise there is an extraordinary circumstance (i.e. Peyton Manning is available, or the team is otherwise stocked from top to bottom except QB position; the latter never happens, mind you.) 2. Sanchez might have sucked in terms of the stat book standard, but Jets FO didn't do much to help him in the first place, and even with deteriorating talent standard around him, he still found the end zone with decent consistency. Think about it. Do you honestly think Matt Cassel is in any way or form better than Sanchez? Get a grip. Sanchez does have (maybe not all, but definitely some) makings of a very good QB. His offense as it stands now is not tailor-cut for his strength. [This should be very obvious.] 3. Now that Sanchez's formative years are behind the rear mirror, I would agree that his chance of becoming the top-of-the-line QB is slim to none. While Sanchez might have sucked, you cannot ignore that the front office fucked it up fair and square.
We needed to draft pieces around him. Cotchery's over 30 now and Edwards is pushing it. That's close to retirement age for non-star players. Faneca and Woody are retired. Thomas Jones is retired. Leon Washington was let go due to an injury. Basically all the plus players on the offense except for Mangold, D'Brick and Keller have moved on. Greene never quite got to plus player because he's too limited, especially in the passing game. In any case it's a moot point. You don't have do-overs because you didn't get it right the first time. If nothing else the cap is still squeezed from the last window and Woody Johnson is probably understandably reluctant to spend a lot of money to fix this window anyway.
Advice to you: learn to read the whole passage instead of picking-and-choosing whatever you find convenient to pick on.
I get your point, but it's worth noting that Edwards and Cotchery have both been completely useless since leaving the Jets. The problem wasn't that the Jets let them walk, it's that Burress/Schilens were bad replacements. Furthermore, I find it astounding that some Jets fans complain about Sanchez's poor supporting cast, and then immediately turn around and say that the team is better off without Santonio Holmes (not accusing you of this, but I see that attitude on this forum all the time.) Tone is a dick, but he's unquestionably the Jets' best playmaker.
Schillens didn't replace Cotchery, Mason did which eventually became Kerley. If they were actually able to replace Edwards with someone better than Burress they woulda been fine at this point.
I am confused, it seems like most responses agree the team is bad, yet they also think Sanchez should be replaced. Doesn't add up. Let me name you quarterbacks I think could come in here in this situation and do better than Sanchez: 1. Peyton Manning 2. Tom Brady 3. Aaron Rodgers 4. Eli Manning 5. Ben Roethlisberger 6. Andrew Luck 7. Drew Brees 8. Robert Griffin III 9. Matthew Stafford 9 QB's are all I could come up with, and a few of them are stretches.
Disagree with Stafford,Eli,and RG3. Eli has had great weapons around him his entire carrer. I don't see Eli doing jackshit with our WR's, Eli likes to throw the ball down the field we don't have the personall for that.RG3 is good but we don't have the kind of players for him to be succesful or make better. And Stafford has Calvin Johnson Sanchez has Chilenz and Hill. You know what all these guys have that we don't ??? Offensive playmakers all over the place Luck still has Reggie Wayne,Big Ben has Wallace and Brown and so on, u get what im saying Fire Tannenbaeum
I doubt Stafford could come in here and light it up either. He's playing awful with Calvin Johnson Jr.
I know that both Edwards and Cotch have struggled since leaving here, but I believe had they stayed here (and stayed healthy) they would likely not have struggled. I agree that if they replaced them with better players then maybe Mark would have been more successful. But, there clearly was chemistry between Edwards and Sanchez that I really think was un-replaceable. Regarding Holmes - I actually do believe our offense is better without him and it doesn't have to do with his on-field talent - which is by far the best of what we have - but because he a divisive person whether it's in the locker room or in the huddle and on the field.
