The problem isn't any individual. It's the decision making at the very top. The media obscures and pollutes the truth of what is actually happening in Florham Park. What really needs to be is asked is NOT who is better Sanchez/Tebow, but rather WHY did they bring in Tebow? They have no plan for him... who is making these decisions? Why create the distraction if it's not going to produce more positive than negative? I really want to know if it's Woody, Tannenbaum, Rex, or some hybrid of those three that's creating the greater vision and decision making lead for the franchise. They're obviously all culpable and they're all giving the generic answers to the press that you'd expect... but where does the cancer actually begin? What is the source? Has Woody truly become a hands on owner? Is Tannenbaum meekly submitting to Rex's every whim? Has Rex truly lost this team, or is that just perception? Is Rex just a mouthpiece and the moneybags duo are the ones making the real meaningful decisions? It's impossible to tell from a fans point of view with the information available and with how unreliable and untrustworthy the press is... that said, something needs to change. I'm praying it's not Woody Johnson because if the problem originates from him then we'll probably never sniff the Super Bowl again for as long as he's running things.
Seems like our WRs can't beat press coverage, and we suck at hot routing to avoid the blitz. We also can't execute a screen pass. This is everyone's fault, everyone needs to be more in sync. You look at the sick offenses today (NE, NYG, NO, ATL, GB) it's not just a stud QB they have but a familiar group of skill players that chemistry has been established with. Not absolving Sanchez of poor play but the supporting cast really needs to get better.
Agreed, but the QB is the most important player on the field. It's more his responsibility to elevate his receivers' play than it is their responsibility to elevate Sanchez.
What a stupid post..What the fuck is the point of posts like this. I'm pretty sure everyone in the world knows about Tom Brady. There's only one Tom Brady, and there might not be another QB like him ever to play again. 99% of NFL QBs need or could really use good recievers to succeed. If a franchise doesn't put pieces around their QB, and then calls him a failure because "Tom Brady won 3 SBs without good WRs...." they aren't going to win very many games ever. Mark Sanchez may be sucking right now big time, but I think anyone with eyes can see that the Jets WRs are pathetic right now, and that they better upgrade that position to help no matter who's taking snaps for the Jets next year.
You do realize Tom Brady was not elite when he won the first two and we traded up to get Mark Sanchez which means he was drafted to be Elite and make the others around him better not vice versa.
L O effing L. What is Tom Brady's name doing in this thread? I'd kill for Mark Sanchez to be Matt Schaub. Nobody has mistaken Mark Sanchez for 'elite' in a long, long time. The comparison is useless. We just want him to be below average, rather than abysmal.
Couldn't you use that same argument for why Sanchez looked decent during his first 2 years? After 2010 he came crashing down to earth and that's what he will be.
Is it me or is Sanchez starting to remind anyone else of the great powerhouse QB Rick Mirer? People just WANTED to believe he was the real deal but year after year and, eventually, team after team and chance after chance made it quite clear he was a mediocrity (on his good days). Sanchez has played better, when he plays well, but that is too little of the time. Not to mention that, statistically, there is an argument to be made that Mirer and Sanchez aren't all that different in some respects. For example, Rick Mirer had a career 53% completion rating. This is inline with Sanchez. I have to say this is scary. Mirer is considered an unconditional bust, one of the all-time wastes of a high draft pick and our QB is trying hard to emulate him. On the brighter side, Sanchez has left Ryan Leaf in the dust! In fact, one on one I bet Sanchez would wipe the floor with Leaf. So it is good to know that Sanchez could at least beat the all-time greatest NFL bust. Woo hoo
Sanchez is awful ... but the Mirer comparison may be a bit harsh. As I mentioned earlier, the closest comparison in stats, physical stature and tools might be Jake Plummer: Sanchez - 6'2" 225 72.8 Rating 65 TDs - 60 INTs 54.7 Comp% 6.5 YPA Plummer - 6'2" 212 74.6 Rating 161 TDs - 161 INTs 57.1 Comp% 6.7 YPA Plummer was a guy with a pretty long career who could get hot and show flashes every so often ... but then he would throw the worst game-killing INT you ever saw in your life. Right now it looks like we wasted the 5th pick in the draft on Jake Plummer "Lite".
Why not use the first 4 years of Pummers career for this comparison? Sanchez - 6'2" 225 72.8 Rating 65 TDs - 60 INTs 54.7 Comp% 6.5 YPA Plummer - 6'2" 212 66.7 Rating 54 TDs - 80 INTs 56 Comp% 6.5 YPA
I was looking at the general quality of play for his whole career, but if you're saying Sanchez has gotten off to a better start in his first 50+, I may have to agree with you. Still, just watching the two of them play the position they seem eerily similar to me.
Plummer was pretty bad out of the gate and turned into an OK QB under Shanahan. Sanchez hasn't had the opportunity to work under an offensive minded head coach like the one that helped extend Plummers career. I'm not saying Sanchez doesn't suck, because he does, but I don't think it's fair to compare Plummers entire career like that in a purely stat based comparison. Who knows what Sanchez could do if he were the QB of say the Texans ...
I think 'anyone with eyes' can also see how horrible sanchez is. What is with all the excuse making? he is not good, sorry.. But the quicker the organization realizes this, we can move on and look for a real QB.
