During the glory years the first two years of Rex our oline had four former first rounders and Moore and they played well. Now we have the best center in the league, Brick on the Left side and the clusterfuck of players that are left. They tried by drafting superugly from a small school(project), stuck with WFH, now Moore is definitely on the decline. Earth to Tanny, Rex and SparSUCKO it's the OLINE stupid! Almost two years of no running lanes and piss poor pass protection and these fuckers can't see that yet. And don't get me started on cement shoes linebackers we have. We never develop players, we just trade away draft picks for aging players and try to fill out our roster with late round draft picks and other dregs. We should have drafted an Olineman earlier last year and year before. Man that fourth rounder we used on Tebow could have been used on a lineman or something. We had our backup QB who I would have started at this point if he was here instead of the circus freak sideshow Tebow FUCKERY!!!!
Tannenbaum and Mangini did a great job of getting the Jets ready to have a SB competitive team for 2 years. Favre got hurt in 08 and the Colts in a dome were simply better then us in 09 with a rookie QB. Had we won in either of those years we could be the bad team in rebuilding mode right now and nobody would be on Tannenbaums ass. We fell short when we had the horses. We have to rebuild the team and it will take a few years probably more since it appears Sanchez will have to be replaced before the rest of the team can be rebuilt.
Well, let's say that you weight 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks more heavily than other picks. Let's say that the 4th round is your plateau for where you usually find talent. Ok so since 2007 the Jets have added 12 players to the roster in the 1st/2nd/3rd rounds. They've added 2 more in the 4th round. Against that the Pats have added 15 players to the roster in the rich rounds up front where most of the talent is found. They've added 1 more in the 4th. That's a qualitative advantage for the Pats in the early rounds of the draft. That they've also out-produced the Jets late just adds more young cheap depth to the team that cushions against injuries and the need to occasionally let somebody retire or go free agent for cap reasons. The Jets just have such a bare bones approach to the draft at this point that both the talent and the depth have suffered as a result.
We've got a top 5 guy who would be the best center in the league if the guys on each side of him were better.
Mangold is def. the best C in the league. The fact that Sanchez isn't constantly crushed with a pass rush up the middle with such below average guards should give an idea of good Mangold is. He's also the reason that Jets constantly run up the middle. He's the only guy on OL that can consistently not get blown up. Plenty of times he'll block his man & still chip or slow down a second defensive player. At the same time, Mangold is sandwiched between a JAG (Slauson) & a washed up vet who should be retiring soon (Moore). If Mangold was on a rookie contract he'd command a 1st or 2nd round + extra easily.
Tannenbaum needs to be fired today! More unnamed sources? This team is in so much disarray it's laughable. Whenever they've faced adversity in the last two seasons, instead of coming together, they single players out anonymously in the media. AYFK???????? It shows the character of the team is piss poor and is a direct reflection on the coaching staff and GM. They officially lost me.
Mangold and Revis are the only two people on this team that are awesome in all respects, and Revis likely has played his last down as a Jet. Don't hate on Thor.
I love Rex Ryan... That said, I think if nothing changes moving forward then this needs to be an all or nothing situation. The choices are either: 1) The current administration got us into a mess that no new FO should have to deal with... give the entire crew one more year to sort it out while being under orders to purge. We're talking stocking the roster with undrafted rookies and using the draft to begin rebuilding the offense... the offensive line in particular. 2) Clean house... every single job from the GM down to the waterboy. Bring in someone who specializes in rebuilding. The expectation is to not be competitive anytime soon. I don't think it'll help if we fire Tannenbaum but let other parts linger. We've been doing that since Herm took over and the stagnation is currently at the worst it's been since I can remember. The only person worth keeping through an administration change is Westhoff and he's about to retire. Really hate to be here.
