I really hope its more than that DUI he had, cause it makes absolutely no sense they didn't try to get him for dirt cheap, he woulda been great value espiecally since he developed chemistry with Sanchez. Seems like the Jets have a double standard with off the field issues with Holmes and Braylon.
Why is there a Braylon cult around here, they were just as bad as the Tebow nuts? Also didn't he go on twitter rants sometimes, the latest dissing Michigan for not recruiting his younger brother Berkley? And I heard he once got in a fight with Lebron!
I loved Braylon and wanted him back in green, but I actually like the fact that our younger guys were thrown into the fire so we can see what we've really got.
There was no "secret" reason Braylon left the team. At about the time free agency began, the Jets offered Braylon a one year $4 million contract. He scoffed at 5the offer thinking he could get a lot more money and a long term deal. He was not coming back to the Jets at that rate. Edwards went and shopped himself. The Jets went about their off season business which included extending Eric Smith, Wayne Hunter and most importantly Santonio Holmes. The Jets then focused on landing Nnamdi Asomugha and failed. The Jets then decided they would pay less for Plaxico Burress to fill the #2 receiver role. Because Edwards had chemistry with Sanchez does not mean he would recover from his injuries and would have been a starting level receiver. The fact that 31 other teams passed on him pretty much states that he was a shadow of the player he was for the Jets and his 23 catches in 24 games since pretty much closes the book on BRaylon. That last knee injury was too much to overcome to get back to a high level of play.
I say this because our WRs were getting destroyed at the LOS. Braylon is far more physical than any of our WRs. Easily would of taken him over Chaz
Time to stop obsessing over Braylon Edwards. He's never going to be a productive starter in this league again.
He was productive 2 years and a knee surgery ago. The fact that it took him so long to find a job this year, and that San Francisco didn't even want him around by the end of last year, suggests that the Braylon Edwards that we let walk is gone for good.
I would take Braylon and his current status over Chaz any-day of the week. Braylon at least has a TD catch. He's made more plays I think than Chaz and Braylon is the #4 WR on the depth chart
Well, if you want to be technical, Chaz has a TD catch, also. He did score in garbage time last game vs Miami. But I agree.. I'd take Bray Bray over him any day.
We currently have 1 open roster spot to my knowledge. Somebody make a thread about Woody and Tanny being cheap to save a few bucks!!
Schilenz sucking does not make Edwards good again. If we're going to replace Schilenz, we should aim higher than a washed up #4.
It's not about replacing Chaz, this is going back to the off-season. It's about signing someone that can help out our QB. Chaz has done nothing but catch a few passes and score a TD in garbage time. Chaz isn't that much better than Braylon if at all to begin with. I would of signed someone that is familiar with our QB (Braylon). We are going to replace Chaz and it should be with a much better, much younger WR that can stretch the field and play physical at the LOS. I just think we would of had a little more success with more familiar faces around Mark.
It was a good move this off season, a but a bad move the year before. Resigning both Holmes and Edwards after 2010 should have been #1 priority.
Yeah, I agree. Should have locked them both up for 12MM/yr total. 10MM to Holmes was because he caught game changing passes in the fourth quarter and overtime in 2010. Good timing for him because since then he has been a slack ass with team-destroying attitude problems. That would have helped Mark out, if he had some stability. Plus, the Fly Boys were fun to watch and complimented each other well. Braylon's swagger had positive influence on Mark's development into a never say die QB. I don't know why Rex was so obsessed with getting Nnamdi, it's not like Cromartie is average or constituted a weakness in the D. We still would've been going into the season with Leonard and Smith starting at safeties with two slow ass OLB's. Getting Nnamdi wasn't going to win us the division. Gronk/Hernandez would have killed us regardless. What a big whiff of an offseason. This one was worse. Except it looks as though we had a decent draft.
