With even a marginally better QB we'd have beaten New England as well. The difference in that game is that there were so many other mistakes, and that Sanchez played well for awhile (against a horrid pass defense, I must add) that people are forgetting that he cost us the game. The horrendous interception he threw with Hill wide open in the end zone, taking bad sacks, and of course the fumbles - particularly the one to end the game - all had a bearing. So even with his good play, and even with all the other mistakes made by the team, he could hvae won us the game with even a modicum of football smarts. He didn't.
if a guy is bad it doesn't matter what the pass D is like. He was excelletn at NE in the toughest building in the league to win at for an opposing team. He gave the D a late lead and the D blew it. He gives us the best chance to win, he's had a few bad games but we haven't lost any games solely b/c of the QB while the pass O has won us multiple games.
Amen. Sanchez was terrible for most of 2009, as expected for a rookie. Same tired old story about the Colts letting them into the playoffs, and then Sanchez played fairly well against Cincy and San Diego - no real mistakes, which is the key. He had that one bomb to a wide open Braylon Edwards in the Colts game and then the injuries began and we'll never know what could have been. But he was not good in 2009.
i used to think you were a smart guy who just got stuck on defending the wrong guys. i am coming to the point where i am beginning to believe you look for the wrong guys to defend. just so that someone is defending them. im not falling into your trap with sanchez like i did with herm. who i am sure you still believe is a great football coach and did a wonderful job
Oh boy here come the "quote the stats blindly" arguments. I hate these. In 2011 ,the Jets were in the top 5 in 3rd down conversion % (against). Big deal, anyone who watched them play regularly knew that they would give up a big 3rd down in an important spot regularly. Having a team go 3 and out a few times early in the game and then giving up 3rd and 7 and 3rd and 9 twice when it matters is a great %, but doesn't mean jack. Same goes for the rushing attacks you quoted here. Yes, the Jets ran for more yards - but would you rather take Ray Rice (who also catches passes, scores TDs regularly etc) or the Jets rushing attacks from those years?
Not to mention that a lot of those guys had hall of famers or at the very least very good, established, veteran QBs ahead of them. Sanchez doesn't qualify for that. But then again, McElroy isn't any of those guys either. It's a circular argument that could be had for infinity.
Really? "JUST" 3 years? That's a lifetime in football. And if you're on a downhill slide since those glory days, you don't deserve to continue. The Jets ruined whatever potential Sanchez had, and Rex is and has always been a big-mouthed buffoon. Fuck Rex, fire his lame, weak, motivating-the-other-team-more-than-his-own ass.
It would really be convincing if Elway had gotten rid of Tebow before securing Manning's services. There's no way Tebow could have stayed in Denver as a backup. He was too popular with the fans there.
the thing is, this isnt "most situations" where the starter is at least below average or kinda decent. we have the worst starting qb in football. it would be nearly impossible for tebow or mcelroy to be worse
That's a very good point. I'm so soured on him now that I only see the current version of him - scared, dumb, and generally seemingly not caring about football as much as his sex life. But I remember when he would run, he would improvise, he would go deep - he would smile and seem like he was enjoying himself. I don't see any of that anymore. I had forgotten about it.
Herm was a good coach and that was proven. Sanchez is a good QB but the average fan is too into fantasy #s to realize it so not many do realize it. he has struggled this year but anyone who blames himfor our struggles has no idea what they are watching. 2009 is the only year sanchez had a great ground game but let's compare: top 2 rushers: 2009: NYJ: Jones/Greene: 439-1942, 4.4 YPC, 16 TDs Bal: Rice/McGahee: 363-1883 yds, 5.2 YPC, 19 TDs edge: BALTIMORE 2010: NYJ: LT/Greene: 404-1680, 4.2 YPC, 8 TDs Bal: Rice/McGahee: 407-1600, 3.9 YPC, 10 TDs edge: even 2011: NYJ: Greene/LT: 328-1334, 4.1, 7 TDs Bal: Rice/Williams: 399-1808, 4.5, 14 TDs edge: BALTIMORE Flacco has had good WRs every year he's been in the league, at his worst his receivers were much better than what Sanchez has had to work w/ this season factoring in injuries.
the pats defense is terrible. like one of the worst pass defenses of all time, historically. EVERY qb in the league throws all over them. if we had a below avg QB isntead of a terrible one we win that game
the QB was a major reason why a depleted Jets team had a LEAD late int he game against a double digit favorite on the road. The QB didn't blow the lead, the QB brought us back from 10 down in the 4th and gave us a lead including a 96 yd TD drive.
What did he do? - had a very high TD to turnover rate - converted on 3rd or 4th and short at an extremely high level - increased time of possesion and had a big impact on the teasm running game. now, thats not world beater stuff, but its alot more then sanchez is doing Elway didnt like tebow from day 1. there is nothing tebow could have done to stay in denver. he could have played like steve young and been shown the door.
if mark is as bad as you guys say he wouldn't succeed against any D and a week ago the Pats allowed 7 pts. mark led us to more pts vs. NE than Peyton Maning did and most of Peyton's production came in garbage time after trailing 31-7.. Only 2 teams scored more against NE and one was done in garbage time(buffalo).
id rather have the jets 2009 rushing attack then any ravens rushing attack during sanchez career in the league. that running attack was dominant. we couldnt pass, we didint try and pass, teams didnt respect the pass, yet we still ran the ball down peoples throats. ray rice is a great player, but that line and the way TJ/Greene ran that year was significantly more dominant
