People hold him to Revis or Cro corners. If they haven't check in a while, nobody is playing at CRO level right now. Wilson is playing well as a #2 and would be a starting corner on 31 teams in the NFL.
Who holds him to that standard? I haven't heard anyone compare him to those guys. The kid sux. He wouldn't be the #2 on any of the other teams in our div. , nevermind the league. This homerism needs to stop.
Hahaha he would easily be the stater in NE. Have you seen those corners? It's when watching him play and everyone compalins he let up two passes. 90% of the corners in the league get burnt consistently. It's the way the league is. Champ, Haden, Nnamdi, Peterson, Webb, etc all get burnt. Nobody is directly comparing him to Revis or Cro, but complaining because the guy got burnt and the WR dropped it seems over the tops. The kid can play and is the second best corner in his draft class. Maybe that says more about his draft class, but he is a legitimate starter and no way more of liability than a strength. THe same problems lie on defense, LB play, lack of pass rush. Kyle Wilson is fine here. He's better off as a nickel CB in my opinion, but at either position he is solid corner.
I like Wilson at the slot, and he hasn't don't too bad as the #2. He would definitely start on NE and Buffalo and probably even Miami, thar goes to probably 25 other NFL teams he would definitely be at least a #2.
Your kidding right? Explain how were allowing 205.6 yards per game passing without Revis. We have little pass rush, no coverage Linebackers, no true coverage safeties, and no Revis.
Because we're allowing 141.6 yards a game rushing and our special teams have given up field position a lot this year on returns, turnovers, blocks and such. Now throw in some short fields because the offense is coughing the ball up a fair amount and it becomes hard for teams to pass for a lot against us. I mean if they had to they would but they don't have to because they're getting yards and points in lots of other less risky places.
Were allowing 141 yards rushing on average because of a couple terrible games (BUF, 1st MIA, SF, HOU). Other than that we haven't done good but no 141 yards a game. Mark is responsible for 11 turn overs so far and I know for a fact that about half were at least 50 yards away from our end of the field. We've done good against the pass against teams that could pass. Our corners are fine. Blame our LBs and our pass rush not the strength on this team. Wilson is 5' 9 and slow, and no NFL experience on the outside. He's been beaten a couple times but he's also played good coverage too.
I don't dispute that the Jets pass defense has been decent this year. I was just pointing out that the reason the Jets haven't given up more yards in the air is because teams haven't had to do that to beat them this year. The Jets are beatable in all phases of the game. Remember the Raiders "great" pass defenses when Aso was playing for them and they were going 4-12 every year? Same thing. The 2007 Raiders went 2-14 with the #1 ranked pass defense in the NFL. They were #32 against the run. If you can't stop the run nobody is going to consistently pass against you and so your yards allowed through the air is going to be much lower than it would otherwise be.
I would say Wilson has been more a disappointment than deserving of such pejoratives as shouldn't be playing in the NFL, or flat out sucks. But clearly he is playing far below where you should reasonably expect someone picked where he was in the draft to be. And for those who say he was not supposed to be any better than the #2 Cb, why is that? Yeah that makes sense if you have Darrelle Revis as your #1, but it is not unreasonable to expect a cb taken in the first round to be capable of playing #1 cb by his third year. Wilson is not even playing as a decent #2, let alone at a #1 cb level. At best he's an average nickel cb. In other words, another misplay by Tanny in the draft.
Was choosing him as the corner the misplay or choosing to pick a corner there? He is arguably the best corner around late first/early second. Joe Haden obviously at middle 1st round turned out the best, but the rest of corners, Wilson might be the best. He took the best remaining corner, I think the problem was going corner there
My beef with Wilson is that he celebrates or talks trash after the WR burns him and either the WR drops the ball or the QB missed the WR badly.
Rex Ryan likes CB's. Peyton Manning had just beaten the Jets by having his 2nd receiver, Pierre Garcon, catch 11 balls for 151 yards. The slot receiver caught 7 for 123. The pick was going to be a CB there if any guy they could even slightly justify was on the board.
i said that his rookie year. i played cb, i can evaluate good cb's when i see them. everybody jumped down my throat when i first posted it, but the truth has come to the light.
See that's my thinking too. We were going corner no matter what, and Wilson so far has been the best of the available corners we had a shot at. I don't think he is liability, but he hasn't been GREAT. He's been a decent outside corner and solid nickel corner. He's played well enough where I'm fine if he was the 2 and there are a lot more positions and units I'm more worried with.
