I think this year Kerley has shown he can stretch the field but I'll admit probably better from the slot when Holmes was still healthy. The pieces around mark are less than desirable but is it really too much to ask to send someone on a go route a couple times a game? What about Stephen Hill? I know he has butterfingers but 4.3 speed with that frame u think they would give him a chance to go up and grab one. Maybe they just can't get open, maybe mark doesn't get enough protection. Whatever it is, if the opposing D isn't at least thinking about the pass were gonna be in for a rough time.
The question was "what can we do to win the next 8 games?" I don't think Cro playing offense is the long term answer, but is something we can do now. Cro and Hill can go deep.
The OP may not like it, but the running game being more productive is the biggest key. That will take the ball out of Sanchez's hands and when it's in his hands he MUST be more aware of what's around him and PROTECT THE FOOTBALL. Even at that, 5-3 is likely the best we'll do.
Turnovers/penalties are the determining factors in most games. Changes need to made on O to minimize them. On offense, Jets need to drop the Tebow stuff or go with him fulltime. Stop the swapping. This needs to be done because Sparano is already over burdened, so simplify the game for him. This Jets O has blown too many timeouts trying to avoid delay of game penalties. Also, let's minimize the straight drop-back passes & do a lot more play-action. Sanchez is really good at faking the handoff & most teams are sitting on the run anyway. Minimize the spread & shotgun formations. A lot more runs. 3rd & 10 with the Jets on their 30 yard line? Call a run & punt. Minimize Sanchez chances to make the big turnover. Punts aren't so bad when you've got a turnover prone QB. O should be running the play clock down on every play to maximize rest for the other two units capable of winning games for the Jets. --- Special teams has to step up. Westhoff is a great ST coach but his unit has been having some off moments this season. No fair catches around the 5-yard line. Do more fakes out of the Tebow punt protector packages (if Jets are close to FG range). O stinks & points need to come from somewhere else. Gamble more for blocks & force the guy in the back to just fair catch more often. ---- D needs to improve but there's just big holes when it comes to talent. Outside of DeMario the LB corpse seems kinda slow. Don't really have much to say because I think Rex is gonna find a way to maximize production here.
I'm not a Tebow-ite, but since we already have him, use him. One full series per half. Win, lose, or draw, one full series from start to finish. Really force the other teams to spend precious prep time on Tebow. Give Mark an extra 3-4 mins talking things over with the coaches while Timmy is in. As far as 'changes', the run game will automatically get much better with Greene, McNight, Powell, and Mangold healthy. Something we've not had the last 3-4 games. Passing game will automatically improve as the beneficiary of a much better run game and with Keller even more healed up. I would like to see Cro on a few go routes a game. Maybe one play with Tebow under center as the long ball is Tebow's strength. All and all, I think we'll be fine. Go into Seattle with a rested, healthy team and come out with a win (very doable). Followed by an gimmie game against the Rams and we head into our rematch with NE at 5-5. Follow that up with 2 more gimmie games against the Cards and Jags and viola...back in the hunt.
Protect the quarterback!!!! Cant throw if your getting destroyed back there. Look how bad Rodgers looks at times when his line is getting him killed backed there. There isn't a qb in the league that can play when he is constantly getting pressured. It all falls on the O-line, need to get some push and open up the running game. Sanchez has shown that he is a good qb when he has time to throw it. He can sling the rock and hit his receivers on target. Defense needs to start playing up to its potential. Need to keep Davis in there even when scott is healthy, we need the speed!!! Need to find a way to get Pace and Thomas off the field even tho they are great in run support. Harris is also just to damn slow, The league is turning more and more into a speed league every single year.
Kerley and Keller targeted even more. Hill maintaining focus. Sanchez needs to stop pump faking so much. Mental lapses on D Pass Rush Improve on 3rd down offense and defense
I hate to say it, but theres no way this team wins out. Have you seen the product on the field? Its not a good one. We dont have the coaching to make up for the lack of talent and vice versa. The talent just isnt there when you look at this team and try and picture it as a playoff contender. At this point, I dont even see us doing better than 500. When you arent great at rushing the passer, stopping the run, running the ball and throwing the ball you are going to struggle to win- which is what we are doing. If the Miami kicker didnt miss multiple field goals to blow the game, we are sitting at 2-6 (if you watched the game you sure as hell know we got out played in that game). I do think there are some things that can make our future better though- - Give McKnight and Powell the ball more. Greene still isnt a workhorse and never will be. Feed the hot hand. - Start Vlad Ducasse. Im not sure Slauson would even make the roster on what we consider SB contenders team's. He's reached his ceiling, there was a reason why he was a 6th round draft pick. - Continue to play Davis in the middle when Bart Scott comes back. Davis has shown some good flashes and adds needed speed to the defense. He is looking like a good pick so far. - Coples should be in on every snap. Despite this asinine notion that Coples is bad against the run, he simply is not, and is a strength and our only real passrushing threat. He needs to play more and more. - Start Kenric Ellis when Pouha comes back. Either Pouha is still badly hurt or he has just lost everything he's had. He got mauled by Mike Pouncey who is turning into one of the best Centers... Ellis has shown he can collapse the pocket and if he keeps working on technique, he should be a beast. At this rate, Pouha should be released after the season. Basically, we need to continue this youth movement and accept that we will most likely (baring a major miracle) be entering rebuilding mode. In order for any of this rebuilding to matter and the thought of adding a new QB, the FO and coaching staff needs to be flipped upside down. Tanny has to go, the scouting dept. has to go, Rex needs to go our realize that he has to adapt to the NFL, Cavanagh has to go, ect. I have no faith in this FO and coaching staff's ability to develop a young QB. Spending a high draft pick on one would be a waste if nothing is changed.
sounds fine and dandy, and would love to see it happen, but that's a lot easier said than done. SEA is going to eat our Offensive line alive... which means Sanchez may have another "Sanchez" game. At this point, even the Rams game is not a "gimmie".
Have you not watched any game this season to realize that no game is a gimme? We all though the dolphin games were gimmes... We got outplayed badly in both games, but managed to win one of them bc their kicker blows. Seattle is pretty much a matchup nightmare for us. They are very good at running the ball with Lynch, and we are pretty bad at defending the run. They have a great passrush that will eat our OL alive unless they play amazingly, they have two of the biggest CBs in the league, who will maul our WRs at the line causing the timing of every passing play to be fucked with, ultimately giving more time for their very good pass rush. Add in the fact that they have the best safety tandem and home field advantage in the league, and I dont see how we walk out with a win. The Cards have shown far more that we have this season and the Jags arent terrible. You forget the the Jets themselves are pretty bad and overestimate their ability.
I'd like to see it happen but I wouldn't label any of those games as gimmie. Even if the Jets were tearing it up this season I'd still expect them to struggle in Seattle. That place is a nightmare for road teams. Throw in the fact that Rex teams don't perform well after byes & it's looking even worst. Rams & Jets are both looking at each and putting an expected W on their calendars. Only game which I'm tempted to call gimmie is the Jags game.
stop ruining Sanchez' momentum and rhythm by putting in Tebow in drive killing inopportune times. Throw down the field and use Keller more. the OL needs to protect better
With Seattle, pass rush is VERY important. I had the pleasure of watching Russell Wilson at NC State, and he is the kind of guy that can extend plays. He's very agile, and it doesn't help we have 30 year old men trying to get to a guy fresh out of college. If we can sack him, he'll run for less first downs. The good news is the fact that Seattle's receivers seem to be pretty horrendous at catching the ball. If we get a few lucky drops, we have a small chance to win. I expect most of our points to come from defense though.
If we want to win the next eight games heres what we need to do: 1. Run untill the wheels fall off...even if the box is stacked run! 2. Mark Sanchez's biggest strength over the years has been play action, if you are throwing the ball more than 40 times a game and not making the defense believe in the run than we will not be successful. I havent seen a play action deep ball attempt in weeks and the only way to set that up is to run! 3. Stephen Hill was not only drafted as a red zone target, but as a deep ball threat...without him running deep patterns we wont make opposing defenses respect the pass which opens up the run...even if he doesnt catch the ball but he is open they have to back off. Hill is always running these slant patters and in routes and thats just not going to cut it with 4.2 speed. 4. Special teams need to create good feild position...idk if its just me but it always seems like we are pinned between the goal and 10 on all punts. We need to get this fixed somehow and i know that sometimes its inevitable, but to many times ive seen kerley fair catch a ball at the 5. 5. Defensive turn overs...this offense isnt good enough to win by itself. The defense has played decent to this point expecially the last 3 weeks against the run. But we need to win the turnover battle. If this defense can turn the ball over twice a game we should always be in a position to win the game. 6. Finally, PROTECT THE FOOTBALL on all the phases of the game. we fallow these steps we win games...i think we need to win out, maybe allow one L and we have a shot at the playoffs, but we cant play the way we have been.
I agree with most of what you said, but when you post something like this.. your argument is null and void.
Yeah Im sure many dont agree with it, but have you seen our 2 guards play? They are so shitty its sad. Ducasse is a 2nd round draft pick wasting away on the bench. He's done well in the run game and hasnt been horrific in pass blocking. Slauson is what he is at this point. I dont see him getting any better. What is there to lose in starting Ducasse? Its not like Slauson is better because they practically split snaps now anyways. If he blows, you admit the pick was a bust 3 years later and cut ties. If he shows some potential (which he has- you can go back to LTJF's preseason write up's on him), then you may have something. The way I see it- he pretty much has to be our future at the guard position. Moore is done, Slauson is a back up and this kid is the only one with the potential to be a good starter.
