I have a feeling these storms due to climate shifts will make more trips northbound affecting our area perennially now.
Just found out my cousin's home in Point Beach is still standing but the inside was destroyed... so sad. My childhood home is still standing as well but my family no longer owns it so we don't know what transpired inside.
I'm wondering how the restoration process works in a situation like this. Houses that are not total losses can be restored,but you have 3 days before microbial action starts,and secondary damage from moisture starts. Were almost at that point now,but were not even at the point where restoration companies can even get to the areas. And,there aren't even nearly enough companies in the area. I know i have the equipment as a small company to handle one house that has a lot of water damage,servpro,paul davis etc has a lot more. but the thing is,if someone has a home that can be easily salvaged,that "easily" part goes away once the effects of passing 3 days of moisture sets in.
The problem is most of these homes are in areas that have been damaged so bad that crews can't even get to them to search for people. I'm afraid the Shore is going to look like New Orleans , the good news is there is a lot of money in some of these towns so they will rebuild but it's going to take years. I just saw on FB a friend of minefrom high school was rescued out of her attic... unreal.
I also heard that one big problem that is still on its way are the rats that will be flushed from their underground nests in lower Manhattan and Jersey. They'll start to surface pretty soon in the flooded areas downtown.
Yeah,I think they will rebuild pretty quick,especially comapred to NO. That area accounts for a lot of the states economy so they have no chioce. When we had the wildfires a few years back here,i think over 100 house burned in one area. They went back up so quick it was stunning. Ofcourse that wasn't even a compareable disaster,but i think once they can get in there it will go quick.
Because Obama pulled out of Iraq, the National Guard is deployed stateside and is ready and well trained to help in these kinds of situation. Not at all like Katrina.
My young son purposefully threw his hat off that bridge a couple months ago. It is only a few miles from home. They had just spent a lot of money fixing up the area underneath the bridge on the Brick side for fishing and picnicking and what not. They had made a nice little park.
I can't imagine how long it is going to take them to fix that. I don't think they'll be able to fix the bridge until they fill that land back in where the ocean decided to rip a whole right through Mantoloking. I think there is another new inlet like that in Bay Head
The bridge was renovated a few years ago and looked brand new. Maybe over the weekend I'll take a walk and see the damage up close.
My Internet through my iPad is very spotty, so this is thefirst time back on. The big oak front of my house came down on the front of the house. Doesn't look like lots of damage, but there is a small hole. And of course,no power.
Hoboken is a mess. Pretty much every basement apartment or store is destroyed. They're saying maybe power on Monday.
Was at my Grandmas in Breezy Yesterday, the place is a warzone and needs everyones prayers. The ambers from the 110 home fire, shot onto my house and ignited the front half, thankfully a neighbor who stayed during the storm called the firefighters who were all on other side of town fighting the big fire. If not for him our house would of burned to the ground with most likely the entire block. The NYPD takes you around in police trucks because the floods are still so bad. My mom and I walked to the Ocean side where the big fire occurred, it was one of the most depressing scenes of my life. They said Breezy is going to be declared unlivable for a couple months. I can't get over how bad this is, Staten Island was hit so hard, they are still finding boddies. I went down to a local highschool (Wagner High school) on staten island, its only one of two shelters now on staten island. I was down there volunteering.
