But I'd still leave in Sanchez for now. Let him sink with the ship. Maybe put in Tebow after we hit the 10-loss mark, just for the amusement. Give McElroy a fair shot next TC (hopefully with a new CS).

    Arron Rogers
    Tom Brady
    Paten Manning
    Mark Sanchez

Pick your QB to represent the Jets going forward for the next 10 years.

Only 3 teams in the entire NFL can have an 'elite' QB.

The other 29 teams need to find other ways to win.

    How?

A top OL that gives an average or below average QB and extra 1/2 second to throw the ball and gives a RB and extra yard per carry. Plus an above average defense that can hold opponents to 21 pts/game. I just described the 2009 Jets and the 2012 49rs. Both of these teams have (and had) a shot at the ring without a QB that's even close to elite.

Finishing 8-8, 7-9, 9-7 every year we are NEVER going to have a Manning slinging the rock.

So drop the 'Mark Sucks' threads and start focusing on the other team aspects that can still lead to the promise land.

Hell, if a city full of naked 50 yr old men eating crab cakes at the warf can figure it out, so can NY fucking City.

Perhaps your right, but I was talking about his mechanics. His mechanics are sound. When he did run, he was very effective. I don't know what to tell you if you disagree with the mechanics.

I don't even know where to start on this one, so, I digress.

Uhh Aaron Rodgers would be my QB for the next 10 years. Hands down, easily.

And yes we don't have an elite QB on the roster, there isn't a sure one in the draft, and not one in FA. We need to improve our team while trying to find that QB. That way when we do get a new QB, we won't ruin him and have to go through this process again and again.

I do not understand the argument of the organization ruin Sanchez. He was brought into the perfect situation in 09 and 10 with the run game and defense. In year three (the prove it year) he had a solid corp around him, and a top 5 defense.

This year he has regressed even further, albeit, we have an unknown wide receiver corp, it isn't horrible.

Was thinking the exact same thing the other day. The 2010 team could be considered even better than 2009. Get back to that, get two new Gs and sign an RT. Gut some bad contracts.

I think we should figure out how to get Brett Ratliff and Clowney back on the team. Those guys were fucking August super hero's. Way better than Sanchez.

Even though I didn't say that in the post, some of it falls on Sanchez but the team didn't help. You probably shouldn't start a guy with 16 games in college. You probably shouldn't to turn him into a game manager when he wasn't in college. You probably should let him throw and learn instead of avoiding the mistakes. You probably should make the offense fit him than make him fit the offense.

We did not have a top 5 defense in year 3. Just watching them was frustrating like watching the offense. Yes, in the prove it year, why would you take the talent away? Wouldn't it make sense to keep on surrounding him because there are two scenarios a) he gets it and the offense becomes amazing becahse he is and the offense is talent. b) he doesn't get it, but the offense is still servicable because it is surrounded with talent. Instead we go the whole, let's hope Mark can carry an offense in his 3rd year in the league approach even though he showed no signs of doing this his first two years.

So in year 3, we remove a RT, don't replace an integral backup OL who was injured in the preseason, we get rid of Braylon and JCO, (2/3 of the receiving corp of last year) and replace them with Plax who is fresh out of jail and no football experience in two years and Derrik Mason. We decide to go to a primarily passing offense with no vertical threats unless we thought Plax was going to go 2007 on everyone in 2011 coming out of jail.

The common sense way to approach the offense would be to keep what it made it work in 09 and 10 and build off that, so in the 3rd year if Sanchez didn't make the stride we would still be successful or if he did become successful, we would become even more successful. Instead we slowly took away pieces hoping Sanchez would get better to make up for that. Look at it this way. Brady was given Moss, Welker, Hernandez, Gronk, Llyod even though we know he can carry an offense. Flacco has been given Rice, Boldin, Smith, Jones. Ryan has been given Julio, Turner, Tony G. Sanchez had Braylon, JCO taken away, given Plax and Mason, had them taken away and given a Kerley and Hill and Tone.

If Sanchez was a supreme talent like we wanted, this wouldn't be a problem. But we really didn't try to develop him. We tried to plug him into a premade hole and tried to make it work. It didn't work. But the strategy now should be planning for the future QB. Instead investing heavily in the QB position by trading picks/etc, the Jets should gather picks and improve the team. That way whomever they place in for Sanchez next year or the year after has a strong base. So our team isn't hoping for a QB to save them. That we have a strong team regardless of who we plug in at QB, so we can consistently give the QB a place learn and develop.

I mean we can keep on trying to trade up and hit that elite QB, or we can build a solid team and have an average QB look and play above average. I think the second one is a better way to build a great team.

Now obviously some of this falls on Sanchez. It was two bad things meeting creating a worse thing. Sanchez and the Jets worked well in their first two years and they messed with the formula and surprise surprise, as the talent dropped, the production dropped, and Sanchez's play dropped. If Sanchez was the QB we were expecting, we probably tread water and look better in year 3, but we probably go 1 and done. Same thing this year. If Sanchez was a bette QB we would be treading water at 4-4 with an average team. It sucks, but we went all in the first two years under Rex and undercut the development of Sanchez. He had a slim shot at becoming a GREAT QB and we said nope. A great QB would succeed regardless and shown us more, but you can't plan your team hoping your QB jumps from average to elite. That;s what we did in year 2 to 3 and anyone watching year 2 knew Sanchez could be good, but elite seemed out of the question. Yet it seemd we made our decisions that year by thinking Sanchez would be picking up the slack of the players we lost. Made no sense, we paid for it and are paying for it.

    You're so spot on.

Crying b/c Mark Sanchez ain't as good as Peyton Manning is worthless. We don't need an elite QB to win it all. And that's a good thing since we'll never have an elite QB.

Splitting c-hairs between Greg, Mark, Ryan, or any of the other 25 non-elite QB's is depressing.

    Move on.

Talk about things we can control.

Sanchez is mentally weak. Always has been, always will be. You can't win a SB with someone like that if the game comes down to just his play and will to win. You're now seeing that you can't even win a satisfying amount of regular season games with a broke dick QB as well. If Sanchez loses to Wilson, then you might as well trash all his jerseys because he won't be playing again.

Unless they play one-on-one, it probably won't matter.

Still...if he plays like crap, Rex is gonna look pretty dumb.

Well I understand it's a team game and all that, but let's say Russel Wilson outplays Sanchez and leads his team to a win, and Sanchez causes turnovers and keeps his team from getting the win. What will happen you think? Can they justify trotting him out there next week?

Only put in those guys if we hit the 8 loss mark. That's the point of no return playoffs-wise and have nothing to lose checking out what we have.

Exactly. We don't have on on our team, this year's draft looks weak and we probably won't have a top 5 pick anyways let alone #1. Elite QB isn't coming for a while so plan like having an elite QB is a luxury only 3-5 teams get which it is

You know what will happen...Sanchez will have a decent outing, and the perpetual cycle of nonsense will continue.

    It's the Jets way...

Arm strength is a factor in the success of an effective passing game. A defense can merely shut down the middle of the field and make an offense one dimensional. You have to have a QB that can get the ball to the outside with velocity or you're in for a long day.
