You've got to be kidding with this. The minute the Jets don't know who their QB is they win one game the rest of the season if they're lucky. The reason Rex is sticking with Sanchez is that he has no starting caliber QB behind him at the moment. He also knows that the minute he confirms that Sanchez is not a starting caliber QB the Jets are on a 5-11 path with no way out.
Could maybe work, but that is not my view on how management work. You build your relationships on trust and accountability, to put in McElroy means Sanchez is broken to everyone from the fans to Woody including Sanchez himself. If McElroy work out then fine, but to go back after is just landning in a hopeless mess of a situation with no QB and what is worse a HC that doesn't have any control or judgement. I would not be willing to rosk that if i where Rex.,
Seriously? We're 3-5 now with Sanchez, you think we finish out 6-2 with him? We have 5 road games coming up plus the Pats at home on a short week.
If Rex "knows" he has no other starting caliber QB behind Sanchez then that us even more reason for McElroy to start, because at this point Rex has proven to know exactly jack and shit about a good QB or offense. whatever Rex thinks go the other way.
We're on a 6-10 path now... Just sayin. Sanchez (the Jets) is not going to go on a 6-2 run, not going to happen.
I do watch Alabama football, born and bred an Alabama fan down here. My point everytime I respond to fans on here that downplay or dismiss McElroy's abilities completely... is give him the opportunity to prove himself in a game. I'm not saying he is a 'can't miss' NFL QB but he does deserve the opportunity to prove it one way or another. If nothing else, the Jets would be able to get rid of him if he doesn't show anything. The Jets drafted him for some reason, so give him a shot... once we are completely out of the playoff race. I'm a 'show me' kind of guy.
It isn't just about this season. After four years we all know what Sanchez is and it is time to move on. the question becomes do we have a serviceable replacement already on the team that will be better than Sanchez and allow us to focus on improving the other positions if a QB the franchise is in love with isnt available immediately?
The argument for McElroy should not be whether or not you good a "good Sanchez" performance but a consistent performance at his level of capability. Sanchez is so erratic, not only from game to game but quarter to quarter, that after 4 years you know you don't know what you are going to get from him. If McElroy is effective at running the team without committing mistakes, he has a leg up on Sanchez.
Exactly this. Right now, it is extremely difficult to be worse then sanchez. Maybe you arent better, but its hard to be worse. just protecting the ball and limiting turnovers probably yields a similar result. we are 3-5(3-8 in our last 11). During that stretch Sanchez has the lowest QB rating in the NFL. Our offense is among the worst in football. you really cant be much worse. i mean if we finish 2-6 and mcelroy had a 68 qb rating is that much worse? not really. and thats kind of worse case, right? McElory and or Tebow desrve a shot. and i assume it comes this week in the second half if we trail.
we are not 0-8 so there definitely could be worse. and i doubt we win against buffalo, miami, colts without mark
I don't want to put words in jerseyjay's fingers, but I'm sure he was talking about going forward. It can't get any worse from this point forward. I agree with him.
This. At this point, I don't believe we do. I would rather try McElroy by putting him in a position to succeed than, "have fun with this mess, you'll probably suck and might get injured" From a fan's perspective no. From a coach's perspective, probably worse. For the GM perspective, bad both ways. There's a difference making decisions without a job security leaning over you. Being an NFL coach is tough, being an NFL coach for a long time is even tougher. Being an NFL coach for the NYJ for a long time is ridiculously difficult. From a fan perspective, we don't have to worry about all those consequences. There's a lot of decision made for non on the field reasons. Any sports fan should know this and if any of you are Knicks fans, you definitely know this.
This is where I disagree. I have watched Sanchez stand in the pocket with great protection and throw the ball way off target, or hold the ball to long, or throw it to a defensive lineman. Does he makes some great throws? He is an NFL QB, so yes. However, does he throw more than bad throws? Absolutely not. I honestly don't think most people understand how the blocking works on passing plays. Every lineman knows how many steps a quarterback is going to take, and they block accordingly. Too many times I have seen Sanchez make a 3 step drop (quick release), and hold the ball. Take a 5 step drop (medium route 2-3 seconds), and drop back further if his first look isn't there. In addition, the defense is paid as well, and they are going to bring packages to beat our offensive line. Even so, our offensive line is providing adequate protection.
if enough fans boycott the thanksgiving game, it would send him a message. but, the team pr dept. would then complain about the nfl giving them a holiday night game to play. maybe fans could stage a pre-game protest outside the entry gates and get the national media to cover it. i assume that not all of the peolple who have tickets are just going to not show up. but, if you , bring a paper bag or an eva longoria costume.hmy:
That "accountant" built arguably the most talented jets roster ever from 08-10. The boneheads on the field couldn't get it done. You realize that if you replace Tannenbaum w/ a football guy...you still have to replace Tannenbaum for his cap managing? Why does it make any difference at all what Tannenbaum's background is? Bradway's problem as GM was that he was too MUCH of a football guy. He let the scout in him take over & it affected the decisions he made. I'm sick of hearing this from Jet fans. You could care less if Tannenbaum's background was in basket weaving as long as he won. All that is, is a mechanism to try & get him out. I'm not saying Tannenbaum is perfect. But he is nowhere NEAR as incompetent at football as Jet fans portray him.
The O-line is not where it was 2 years ago. They are not a liability but they are no longer a strength. In fact, the Jets don't really have a strength on offense anymore.
So which aspects of the team does Woody directly control? Just curious why people are saying every move we've made recently was his idea. I haven't seen any proof that he was behind Tebow or Favre or whoever. And you can't blame him for Favre just because he got hurt and it didn't work out. We need to look at Tanny.
He signs the checks. All you need to know. Woody didn't have his hands in the cookie jar much besides Favre, Sanchez and Tebow. He doesn't do it much, but when he does usually someone gets fired.
