I'm with you on that. I'm sure McElroy would win a truly open competition in TC between himself, Sanchez and Tebow. Only missing ingredient is objectivity at the top.
who will he be throwing his lame duck passes to with no zip? We have no recievers and or line...I dont care if you have Peyton back there...we are more than just a QB away from a winning record.
I am not sure how you can say that. The few drives i have seen with McElroy, he has looked very human.
Can I join your island? Things suck right now but I believe this CS/FO can get things right eventually. Even with Sanchez at QB. Stay the course. Hold the line.
McElroy has more football knowledge and awareness at this point then Sanchez will ever have. As for who he will be throwing his "lame duck, no zip" passes to, the same receivers Sanchez has and he will be doing more with them. He is a playmaker and will move this team, and he won't make the same bonehead mistakes that Sanchez makes over and over again. Exactly, "the few drives" with the second string... How anyone on here can keep saying again and again that McElroy could do no better then who we have is ridiculous. No one has given him the chance to prove anything on the field. So unless you are all Nostradamus', you need to quit forseeing the future and give McElroy a chance. :jets:
I am not the Nostradamus telling everybody on here how good McElroy would be, winning a TC competition, moving the team forward etc My point was exactly that, just because the guy hasn't got the chance doesn't mean he is any good just unproven quantity. Mark was never as good as before the 1st season, when he hadn't taken a snap, everybody was excited.
1) Greg McElroy has never shown that he is a "playmaker" at either the college or pro levels. While he was at his best in Tuscaloosa, he was merely a competent game manager. 2) Accusing others of playing Nostradamus when you are predicting with zero evidence that McElroy is actually a hidden star is stupid. I'm sure you're also one of the fans who thought Brett Ratliff and Kliff Kingsbury were the next Namath. There is no better job in the world than being the backup QB for a team with a whiny fan base like the Jets or the Eagles. No matter who you are, the fans will always clamor for you, and you never have to actually do anything.
The team is not getting better as long as Woody Johnson owns the team. Was the worst guy that could have bought the franchise. We needed the team to end up in the hands of the Steinbrenners.
Exactly...There is more evidence to support Tim Tebow being the guy before Greg I have yet to dress for a game this year McElroy...But hey the SOJ fans will always know more than the coaching staff that ACTUALLY gets to see these guys day in and day out...Greg McElory is probably no the answer, and probably wont get a chance to prove he is, especially when HE IS INACTIEVE every week!
Unless you think Sanchez will pop out of his cocoon this bye week and emerge as Joe Montana, what is the harm in starting another QB? Let's give McElroy a shot, if he's really not any good as you claim, why waste a spot on him, we can cut him tomorrow, same with Tebow, show the world how much he sucks and get him off the team. Our season is all but over, lets see who we have worth keeping and clean out the rest.
The coaching staff (Rex) said this is the best team they ever fielded... Maybe it is time for us to decide who plays.
there is a harm for Rex and his FO. Usually when things start to turn ugly, you have one shot to rectify it. You do not want to spend it on one week and an unknown. To put in McElroy and he bombs would be devastating for Tanny , Rex and all involved. I would buy time by discussing with Woody on how a new QB would be drafted in the summer and coached up during Sanchez last season. Still one mistake but a time buying solution.
This "competent game manager" term is the usual put down of all Alabama QB's... thank you for that input. My prediction for McElroy is that he has more 'football knowledge' and 'more awareness' then Sanchez, and I will stand by that. It doesn't take much to be better then Sanchez in those areas. As for your last point... No, not a Ratliff or Kingsbury fan and I'm not looking for the second coming of Joe Namath. Just someone who can win games for the Jets 'consistantly'. I am not the one saying McElroy would win a TC competition... another poster said that. As for him being good... I think he would be, but he won't get the chance with our coaching staff. Hell, he can't even get a chance with the fanbase. So, I am saying... All You Nostradamus' Need To Give McElroy A Chance Before Saying He Is No Good! This Nostradumus is not predicting, only asking for equal opportunity. :jets:
The AFC is awful this year, and 9 wins very well may be enough for a playoff spot. At 3-5, the Jets are not out of it yet. If they waste a game by throwing a marginally talented 7th round pick into his first NFL game action against one of the toughest defenses in football on the road in front of arguably the most hostile crowd in the NFL, they'll be finished. Talk to me about experimenting with McElroy in week 14, when it's actually garbage time. But the season isn't over yet. The Jets need to stick with the guy who gives them the best chance to win, and while I'm no Sanchez fan, it's pretty obviously him at this point.
If you watched Alabama, you'd know that it was true in McElroy's case. He was rarely asked to do anything but hand it off to the Tide's dominant run game, make high percentage throws to keep the defense honest, and above all else not turn the ball over. Occasionally they'd try to catch the defense napping and let him toss it up to Julio Jones. I don't mean to undersell him as much as I have been, because he did a very good job in the role he was given. I just don't see how that experience -- and his apparent inability to distinguish himself in training camp/practice -- would make anyone think that he could be an NFL starter, especially when you consider his clear physical limitations.
But if you put McElroy in and he thrives??? We know what Mark has to offer...50+ completion %, 2-3 turnovers, 9-12-14 points per game... If Greg and Tim fail, we put Mark back in, no harm no foul. We know we need 3 QB's.
Yep, and a circus atmosphere hurts that effort if the clowns are all wandering around aimlessly instead of making people laugh.
