looks like a deer in headlights at times. guys was supposed to be legit coming out just didn't work. At least he wasn't a project in the 2nd round which they like to do -- or one of the many draft picks that get cut before the season starts.
The scary part is, he might the best or second best CB picked at his draft position or lower. You have Haden who went early and everyone else for the CB position of that draft
Wilson is terrible granted but Trufant is much much worse. Our first round picks have been terrible aside from Revis, the rest have been complete busts (at this point I'm including Coples in there).
Wilson does a fine job covering slot receivers. His big problem today is that Revis is hurt & Cro had to miss some plays ... both pushed him into a more high profile spot. He was drafted in first round but he's not commanding a big chunk of the salary cap @ all & he plays a position where Jets have a lot of depth (when healthy).
The problem with you Jets fans is that you hold him to Revis and Cromartie standards. We are spoiled in this sense. He is not that kind of corner. He was drafted to play the nickel behind those two. Watch games from around the league and most other teams would start Wilson. CB is a very hard position to play. You're lost bud. Coples is disruptive every time he is in the game. Wilson is not a bust, but an underachiever. He is not really a liability to the secondary at all. He is a good nickel, not so great on the outside because of speed issues. Of all the things to point out, you pick tackling? One of the things he is best at is tackling. It's one of the reasons why he plays the nickel well.
Compared to the other corners he was picked around and with, he's probably the best. Weak CB class. And he's a nickel CB (3) that can't effectively switch to the outside. He's solid in the nickel, something you need especially when your pass rush is inconsistent
Guy sucks.... Another missed draft pick.... Will be one of the many draft picks rex and tanny made that leads to them being fired after this season....just my gut feeling
Asking a cornerback to turn his head to the ball and not get roasted on every deep ball is not an unfair standard. Wilson is passable in the slot. He's not even close to good enough to start on the outside for a top defense. Personally, I doubt that the Jets invested a first round pick in the man because they were hoping for a mediocre nickel back.
Nobody beats him with his celebrations. The guy has the best celebrations after he gets beat deep and the receiver drops the pass.
That's just it, he was drafted to be our #2. I think Rex and Co. knew very early that he didn't have the ability to be a #2 in this league so we were forced to chase Nmamdi or resign Cromartie. That draft was awful... Wilson in round 1, Ducasse in Rd 2 and if I'm not mistaking no round 3 or 5 as it was traded for Edwards and then we traded up to take Connor. Lock that fucking draft in a vault and let "Top Men" handle it.
This is what's funny about how people argue that Wilson is okay due to fact he is an average at best nickel/ slot cb He was drafted first rd to be a legit no 2 , nickel cb are usually low rd or ufa What makes this clown worse are his celebrations of " thou shall not pass" when he is 3 yards behind play and it's dropped Another one consigned to dump it zone in off season
