Your Governor decides to shut down the MTA at 7 pm, bus service 2 hours later... Good for him to realize that the Mayor is an idiot...
Well Jay, I got my days off planned although I think management is gonna give us the days off anyway. Got out yesterday and thoroughly cleaned out all the gutters and moved all the patio furniture inside just to make sure. Cleared the corner drain of leaves just in case. As far as I can tell, We're pretty much ready for Sandy. If all else fails, I have a boat in my garage..
Jay, did you ever think your thread would hit 100 paes? One of the top threads ever by now. Okay, back to the weather. Its windy here this week, BTW. Just windy. Take care.
It's not avoiding anything. The models show the path where the center might be, NOT the size of the storm. With this thing, even if the center is over New York, MA is going to get hit too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNE7Yz9m0bQ&feature=g-upl Took this video around noon in Long Branch, NJ. It was LOW tide at the time...
do you know the entry points for water? can you dig a few runoff trenches to divert the water? I did that for a customer back on Long Island that kept getting it. Water was running down into a window well.
Actually never....the funny thing is that I didnt make this thread. I made a thread about a snow storm and had done that in the past. Sundayjack saw it and said lets just make a thread about Weather and other stuff on my mind. Pretty funny...incredible that its turned into 100 pages. Ok...back to the storm. Nice prep cman. Good carpet ideas. And now the storm. I see Bloomberg is breaking into a sweat. Over at the weather threads, they are wondering if the storm is now going to be much worse for Bloomberg to go out at 4pm again. I say probably not..he is just getting caught with his pants down and the cool and calm asshole is now taking it serious. Or maybe its this..just issued warning: NWS New York NY @NWSNewYorkNY Predicted water level of 11.7 ft at the Battery #NYC at 8:13PM MON would break record of 10.5 ft on 9/15/60 with Hurr. Donna. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wroDb9n5ltM&feature=plcp Update of earlier. This is at 4:30pm. Seems the water has come up somewhat.
Once again for those of you in NJ, please remember in case of emergency... ...Gov. Christie can be used as a flotation device.
But isn't the center the strongest/most powerful part or no? That's how I look at it. I figure we get hit, but we don't get the horrid conditions that other people will get in the center. Is this the wrong way to read it the map?
Yes..its is. And the usual storm says the center or just around the center is the strongest..and as you move miles away the strength diminishes. Devils point is a good one...for this storm. Winds around the center or eye might be 75 mph...while 250 miles away wind gusts would almost the same. There might be a difference of 20 mph is sustained winds even 200-250 miles out. Thats the makeup of THIS storm. Its unique DF. The combination of a very very intense low pressure storm merging with a very cold front and a extremely high..high pressure to the north causes a gradient in between where the wind is created by all those influences..not just the storm center. Its very unusual. Where the center makes landfall will tell a lot about storm surge and yes...wind. But tropical force winds stretch out almost 500 miles from the center of the storm. Thats what makes this so historical..its size. In a true hurricane, if landfall was Atlantic City...Central NJ coast would be sparred the brunt...but that is not the case with this storm. Hope I explained that ok. I totally understand your question...just that this storm is a different creature.
This helps. I don't read weather maps consistently or often. That's why everyone up and down the coast is preparing, not just landfall. Boston mayor highly suggested nobody go into work tomorrow
From a blog I read sometimes: The National Weather Service is also offering some blunt advice for those reluctant to evacuate low-lying areas: 3. IF YOU ARE RELUCTANT, THINK ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONES, THINK ABOUT THE EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WHO WILL BE UNABLE TO REACHYOUWHEN YOU MAKE THE PANICKED PHONE CALL TO BE RESCUED,THINK ABOUTTHE RESCUE/RECOVERY TEAMS WHO WILL RESCUE YOU IF YOU ARE INJURED OR RECOVER YOUR REMAINS IF YOUDONOT SURVIVE. Seriously, if you're in the path of this storm, there's going tobe more continuous rainthan you've probably experienced in your life.
Some random power outages in Nassau. Man, I wish I wasn't in Michigan right now. I would love to be on LI for this.
Sounds crazy marty but I get it. Now a bit a fly in the ointment. Circulation around the eye was supposed to give out a bit as the tropical characteristics begin to dwindle but something very interesting is taking over. They eye is beginning to reform and better define. What does that mean? Well..not really sure other than you looked at the models all day today and everyone from the NWS to mayors and Governors were acting much worse than they usually do. My guess is this thing has some surprises in stock and for one...it will at least be a little worse than projected. Here is the eye: http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/northeast-region/weather-radar-rs?play=1 In about a half hour I will be on the computer for awhile. EDIT: HERE IS A MUCH BETTER RADAR TO SHOW THE REDEVLOPMENT OF THE EYE. http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/floaters/18L/imagery/swir-animated.gif
